shower_in_my_socks: jvl: I had really hoped California would go first, but a win is a win!

The redneck and Catholic counties farked us over in Cali. NY just opened the floodgates, though. When the world doesn't end, there'll be little argument left to make.

So did Utah. Were you aware that the Mormons poured millions into campaigning against equality?

Benevolent Misanthrope: shower_in_my_socks: Has God destroyed NYC yet? No? Tick-tock. If he takes too long, people might get the idea that this gay marriage thing isn't the end of the world after all.

Don't worry - the next bad thing that happens for the country, the fundies will be bleating about how it's because their god hates us gays and he hates all the people who don't hate us, too.

But he loves everybody.

Do you think Fred Phelps will have the balls to come to New York with a "God Hates New York" sign?

Come on Fred... if you can make it there, you'll make it anywhere...

Does this mean the Yankees and the Red Sox can stop pretending?

Yep, and based on the way current legal decisions have been going it's going to be for naught.

Yeah. I remember getting into it with the Prop H8 supporters on the street who had no idea the signs they were holding were funded by Mormons. They were the definition of useful idiots.

I don't know what business the government has in the marriage business to begin with, but I'm glad this passed.

The gays that will marry were already shacking up and sharing benefits.

This will change next to nothing, that except to show a few American citizens some common decency.

Got to wonder just how pissed the NYC archdiocese is and if this is not some attempt by the police to placate them in this "turbulent and disrupting (for bigots) time".

Yep.. They are seriously losing their shiat.. It's embarrassing to normal religious folks who honestly don't give a shiat and don't sit and play wordsmith with bible verses to make them out to say something they actually don't.

They wasted their money working exhaustively for a temporary setback against gay peoples' legal rights.

There are more gays in the US than Mormons... in fact there are more Lady Gaga twitter followers than Mormons.

If NYC police officers want to rally more people to the gay cause, they can bring it on. I can't imagine that their bosses in the NYPD are going to be too happy hearing about shiat like this, though.

Good luck on that one. Too many people like my grandmother still live there. Outside KC, the bigotry is choking.

Hey, St. Louis can be quite progressive with all the universities there. But travel 10-20 miles out of the city and it's pretty much the same as being in the Ozarks. That and Columbia since it has Mizzou and all.

Raiding gay bars? It isn't illegal to be in a bar in NY, and isn't illegal to be gay in NY. Stonewall was years ago. What is there to raid about?

And the Prop 8 issue was actually quite divisive in the LDS community--pitting congregation members against each other. I think they sustained more internal wounding from this than is commonly known.

Drunk in public.
They (used to?) do that in Cali with problem bars, or any establishment that had too many noise complaints.

shower_in_my_socks: My thoughts exactly. Though I have not heard yet if there was any one event that may have prompted it...it is just a little "too" coincidental when they have not had any kind of issue with the authorities for a long time. Who knows if it will ever make the news though.

Actually, marriage has a lot to do with state functions: power of attorney, spousal privilege, inheritance, taxation, child care, etc.

The question is more likely, why is religion involved?

Yeah, that's what it was for.

Looks more like advance planning and a plausible cover story that fooled city hall.

/my faith in the youth of America just went up a notch. What a great prank. Well done!

Doubt they had to fool City Hall - Bloomberg is strongly pro-gay rights, and the Speaker of the City Council is an out lesbian.

Don't know about whoever runs the ESB though - but I'm pretty sure their only concern is that they get paid.

I just checked wikipedia. They have lit it up in lavender before for gay pride so their support is nothing new.

nothing if you leave out the comment i responded to.
even less if you're a drunk driver or don't know any of the 15,000 people killed each year by drunks.
personally, i'd put this ahead of a lot of social issues.

styckx: Meanwhile, on Free Republic

So let's say some gay guy gets married and later wants to divorce and cites the infidelity of his partner. The cheating partner hires some hotshot gay attorney to say that promiscuity in gay marriage is "cultural." Some radical judge agrees. Soon, straights demand the same "rights" as gays to cheat on their partner. Where will that leave us? With women raising kids on their own and many men fooling around without any legal consequences. The gays celebrate "the new openness." Sure, the kids get screwed, but that's what gays want, both figuratively and literally.

What a complete idiot. NY enacted no-fault divorce last October, the last of the 50 states to do so. So infidelity, or other issues, will never come up there or anywhere in the US.

/congrats NY gheys!

2011-06-25 1:28:49 AM

tony41454: This needs to be said here:

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice, they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them. (Romans 1:21-32)

Can I buy some pot from you?
