tony41454: This needs to be said here:

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice, they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them. (Romans 1:21-32)

But then, I went to school in Ithaca where there are 2 seasons - Winter and the 4th of July.

ipeeintheshower: It never "passed" in Iowa. It was a court decision. If put to a vote of any kind it would fail overwhelmingly there.

It didn't pass in NY either, at least not in any popular vote. And the margins of popular support in NY are not wide enough to suggest that it would do a lot better there than IA or anywhere else.

And frankly I feel better protected by the 14th amendment than by a law specifically enabling gay marriage -- I'm insulted by the idea that the state government thinks it is allowed to discriminate by sex in the first place, or that the legislature believes it can lawfully deny rights to its citizens by failing to pass such a law.

Its gay pride weekend - not a surprise regardless of the outcome in NY.

/btw - that bridge is the replacement for the bridge that collapsed a few years ago

I thought that was the bridge. That's still pretty cool they do that for gay pride weekend though. They never do anything like that here in St. Louis.

Just realized that New York legalized this just at the right time. It's gay pride weekend.

I have friends who can't travel over bridges because they were on the bridge that day it collapsed. But given a distraction they will never know they passed over that bridge. Its that well constructed. And the lighting is cool.

tenpoundsofcheese: Kumana Wanalaia: tenpoundsofcheese: eddiesocket: tenpoundsofcheese: Awesome that the GOP controlled Senate passed this.

They were pressured by the Democrat governor to bring it to a vote, and only four of them voted yes. Let's wait a few years before we try to rewrite history, shall we?

It was passed by a GOP Senate. When a similar bill was put forward in 2009, it was stopped by a Democrat controlled Senate. Where was the Gov in 2009 to pressure the Dems?

The GOP did everything they could to stop this. The Dems were the ones who pushed the issue, and won.

You appear to be suggesting that the credit for legalizing gay marriage in NY is due to the GOP. Is this, in fact, your position?

The Dem controlled Senate stopped it in 2009.
The GOP controlled Senate passed it in 2011.

I don't remember that back in 2009 the headlines were "Dems reject same-sex marriage"

Credit doesn't go to the GOP or the Dems but to the activists who have tireless campaigned for this to happen.

I give Lady Gaga more credit than I do to any Dem or Republican.

I wouldn't say the Democrats "controlled" the State Senate. Google "Pedro Espada" and "Hiram Monserrate" if you don't know what I mean.

I will concede point that now that the Republicans no longer feel politically threatened, they no longer feel the pressure to vote in lockstep with the party. They should be proud; their strategy of holding the social policy preferences of most of the residents of this state ransom worked out well for them.

skullkrusher: Gyrfalcon: skullkrusher: about farking time

Now we can start the 10,000 months of fruitless lawsuits to find some way to invalidate the ruling, recuse the judge(s), prove the ballots were tampered with, or that the Gay Agenda Coalition to Advance the Agenda imported millions of illegal gay aliens to intimidate the voters, before opponents finally accept that PEOPLE REALLY JUST DON'T CARE.

Yay, New York!!

(two weeks to go, krusher, you scared yet? Awed? Planning on how to get "skullkrusher" on the birth certificate in some tastefully understated way that won't ruin his chances for President in 35 or 40 years?)
(PS tell the mrs. to forget about that natural thingy, every woman I know has said go for the epidural every single time)

I'll get Skullkrusher on there but I think I'll spell it with a C. Seems a bit more official that way, don't you think?

Heh, yeah wifey is going in telling them to have the epidural at the ready but don't give it to her automatically. Game time, in the moment decision is how she wants to do it.

Just FYI - tell her there's a real person who managed through a natural childbirth who didn't later regret doing it that way. My son is just over three months old and was born at 9 pounds even, 22 1/2" long, with no epidural, no drugs at all, no episiotomy - and I'm only 5'3" and (pre-pregnancy) about 125lbs. It can be done. They always tell you that you don't remember the pain. It's true. It was the hardest thing I ever did, I know that - and I remember the whole experience as the most powerful I've ever felt in my life. I doubt your wife wants to miss out on that. Once you start medication and interventions they tend to snowball and you end up powerless - in the hands of the doctors and the drugs. She'll be sore and tired afterwards with or without the drugs - and the recovery is the hard part, truly. SO MUCH EMOTION and not enough energy.
Not telling you or her what to do, just stating from my own experience. It's incredible. Good luck - and congratulations!
