CT, and NH frown upon your inaccuracies. Maine, too, kinda.

No, Maine, too, for real. But sorta got Prop 8'd by the "people's veto" (get a few sigs, you can mount a challenge at the ballot box and overturn with a simple majority) before it took effect.

/Bangor? I hardly knew'er!

didn't read the whole thread so apologies for a possible repost, but he deserves it.

Senator Grisanti (R)eallyAwesome wins the prize:

"Tonight, I joined my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to legalize same sex marriage in New York State. Since I began my term as Senator I have met with many people on both sides of this issue, read numerous documents and independent studies. Given the high stakes, I felt I owed it to everyone to make a well-informed decision. I have come to believe that all New Yorkers should be entitled to the same 1324 rights that come with a civil marriage. As an attorney I analyzed the legislation and concluded that the amendments provide critical exemptions for religious institutions. Passage of this bill now rather than later ensures that these protections be included. I cannot deny anyone in my district and across New York the same rights I have with my wife."

Try being on vacation in Orlando and Tampa like I was last week. I don't think anything else was happening there besides that trial it seems because that's the only thing they were showing on TV in the day time.

That said, the stations here did mention that same-sex marriage got legalized in New York so kudos to them.

This needs to be said here:

For even though they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks, but they became futile in their speculations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Professing to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the incorruptible God for an image in the form of corruptible man and of birds and four-footed animals and crawling creatures.
Therefore God gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, so that their bodies would be dishonored among them.
For they exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions; for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural, and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.
And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice, they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them. (Romans 1:21-32)

tenpoundsofcheese: eddiesocket: tenpoundsofcheese: eddiesocket: tenpoundsofcheese: Awesome that the GOP controlled Senate passed this.

They were pressured by the Democrat governor to bring it to a vote, and only four of them voted yes. Let's wait a few years before we try to rewrite history, shall we?

It was passed by a GOP Senate. When a similar bill was put forward in 2009, it was stopped by a Democrat controlled Senate. Where was the Gov in 2009 to pressure the Dems?

Hopefully, one day Obama will see the GOP was right on this and support same-sex marriage.

Different Governor, and you're embarrassing yourself.

Yeah, a blind person can see that the Dem Gov in 2009 was not willing to pressure the Dem Senate in 2009 to pass this.
Yet, a GOP controlled Senate passed this in 2011.

The only thing embarrassing is how pathetic the Dems were in 2009. It took a GOP led Senate to pass this.

The NY Dems weren't going to make any headway in 09 with the family values folks when their governor just resigned after getting busted for hiring hookers.

styckx: So let's say some gay guy gets married and later wants to divorce and cites the infidelity of his partner. The cheating partner hires some hotshot gay attorney to say that promiscuity in gay marriage is "cultural." Some radical judge agrees. Soon, straights demand the same "rights" as gays to cheat on their partner. Where will that leave us? With women raising kids on their own and many men fooling around without any legal consequences. The gays celebrate "the new openness." Sure, the kids get screwed, but that's what gays want, both figuratively and literally.

I laughed really hard.
At least this guy put in a creative scenario instead of bullshiat about God.
