Rubberband Girl: As soon as Ohio does the same, Hubby will perform the ceremonies. :fingers crossed:

Alas, that will require either:
1) A vote of 50% of Ohioans, since a constitutional amendment was approved in 2004.
2) A victory at the Supreme Court, which would override Ohio's constitution

We can hope. Cleveland would pass it today, but we're the liberal end of the state.

Which turtle are you marrying? Donatello, Michelangelo, Raphael, or Leonardo? (Some days I can remember all of them.)

They must be legal by now, mustn't they? They still can't be teenagers after all this time.

They must be Middle-Aged Mutant Turtles.

AmyZen: Yeah...try living in Springfield. I'm choked daily with their righteous religion thrown in my face, their ridiculous Fox-bred "thoughts," and their hatred of anything with more than 3 teeth and some education. And you can't even say the word "gay" without receiving hatred and spittle in return.

Yeah, I can't imagine living in Springfield and I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

/Feels sorry for you

I live in the Castro, where it's currently all rainbowed and feathered up for Pride Weekend, and yet I'd still have to travel thousands of miles if I wanted to get gay married? C'mon California, get with the program!

Mrtraveler01: adamgreeney: Mrtraveler01: Damn you subby. You stole my joke.

/Congrats to New York though
//Still holding his breath for MO to do the same before he dies

Good luck on that one. Too many people like my grandmother still live there. Outside KC, the bigotry is choking.

Hey, St. Louis can be quite progressive with all the universities there. But travel 10-20 miles out of the city and it's pretty much the same as being in the Ozarks. That and Columbia since it has Mizzou and all.

/lives in the suburbs of St. Louis

My mom's family all live in the STL suburbs and still refer to African Americans as "colored" and "THOSE people."

eddiesocket: shroudie: Anyone who think this is a slippery slope to lead to legalization of incest and pedophile marriages need to look at marriage law. It follows the same guidelines, the only thing different is that both parties are of the same-sex (oh, and there's the whole can't bring lawsuits against churches deal).

Which was unnecessary and redundant language to appease the four Republicans who voted aye. Already churches have freedom of assembly and can reject any couple they want, gay or straight.

But if a church rejects a straight couple, they're more than likely to get frowned upon than a gay couple.

I feel sorry for the people of New York. Rejoicing over sexual deviation takes an incredible lack of morality.

Anyone know what the exemption language means re: religious recognition of same-sex marriage? That is, if the church is involved in the foster/adoption process (receiving state funding) can they refuse a gay couple?

Looks like they can, yes.

FirstNationalBastard: truthseeker2083: Uncle Pim: Finally, after 13 years, I can marry my partner.

Congrats!!! Just past 5 for my partner and I. Gonna stop by a city hall next time in NY! Thank god for no residency laws and a job as truck drivers!

I saw you in another thread earlier today...

a gay truck driving tandem. You should have country music songs written about you. Good country, not that pop country crap on FM Radio.

And that reminds me... why no "gay country" subgenre yet?

Will you, at least, tie some cans to the back of the rig?

Oh god, my partner is from Alabama and loves country music... I can't give him any ideas.

/The cans on the other hand, I might be able to do

tenpoundsofcheese: eddiesocket: tenpoundsofcheese: Awesome that the GOP controlled Senate passed this.

They were pressured by the Democrat governor to bring it to a vote, and only four of them voted yes. Let's wait a few years before we try to rewrite history, shall we?

It was passed by a GOP Senate. When a similar bill was put forward in 2009, it was stopped by a Democrat controlled Senate. Where was the Gov in 2009 to pressure the Dems?

Hopefully, one day Obama will see the GOP was right on this and support same-sex marriage.

Different Governor, and you're embarrassing yourself.

I dont think incest is illegal, is it?

Sort of. I don't think any state allows direct relationship marriages, like son-mother or brother-sister, with quite a few states explicitly outlawing those kinds, but a few degrees of genetic relatedness away from each other and it's okay. More states have laws saying you can marry your second cousin than allow same-sex marriage.

I don't fathom why people give a shiat about this either way. If you aren't gay, mind your farking business. If you are gay, go get married and be happy (or unhappy, as the case may be). I am sick of hearing about this shiat. I'd rather be hearing about a hot lesbian session with Michele Bachman and Sarah Palin. Sarah would be the dominate one, of course. There I said it.

well, first off incest shouldn't be illegal and secondly, homogay incest should be doubly not illegal since the only legitimate reason to make incest illegal is because of the possible genetic problems for potential offspring

Well, New York and California basically set the cultural precedent for the rest of the country, so we'll probably see lots more states follow suit. This was the breakthrough that was needed.

From Free Republic:

All I can say to New Yorkers, is if you believe the Bible is the word of god, and if you believe god destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of homosexuality and more importantly societies acceptance of homosexuality, and you believe God is the same today as he was back then, You might want to consider a move south in the not to distant future. If not...feel free to carry on....

LOL! What an utter load of shiat.
