These people should know the risk when they buy the ticket, if they dont their idiots and probably deserve to be taught a lesson through injury.

And if it really were that dangerous the free market would cause them to stop selling these tickets over time and the problem would fix itself

Let me bring a sleeping bag and a pillow, and I'll be more comfortable in the luggage compartment than sitting in a bus seat for hours.

They bought their tickets, they knew what they were getting into. I say, let 'em crash sit in the luggage compartment.

Bus travel is the safest form of travel, and by a pretty significant margin.

Did they have their green cards on them?

Came to say "They bought their tickets, they knew the risk." I see I've been beaten to the punch. Leaving satisfied.

Did I miss the part of the article where it says they bought the tickets knowing they would be in the luggage compartment?

They got here riding in a hidden compartment, so they should be used to it.

So, if me and the girlfriend went to Austin in one of these buses and farked on the way I have one question. What is the opposite of the Mile High Club?

I've paid to sit on the floor of a Greyhound before, so I'm getting a kick...

/another bus was late getting to Chicago, so they had more people than could fit on the bus to Ann Arbor/Detroit we actually had tickets for
//many of them cut in line in front of us
///"us" = half the staff of the camp we were working at, so we couldn't wait until the next day
////they did have a travel coach waiting for us in Jackson though

Same here. I fully expected the word "Asian" to be in the story somewhere.

Which is what happened. The free market just took care of the problem, in this case without any loss of life.

It seems like I'm pointing out the obvious, but sitting in there unsupervised for a couple of hours with a bunch of luggage presents a nice opportunity to get your hands on some pretty neat stuff.

With the heat wave that's been hitting the US this last week, I'm surprised we haven't heard of someone croaking in one of those compartments....

The company can operate again if it meets government requirements and develops a plan to ensure that passengers are never stashed anywhere but the passenger area of the bus again.

A plan? A farking plan??? The implication of that statement is that this was just all a terrible mistake on the company's part and they just need to develop some sort of system to make sure it can't happen again. It wasn't a mistake. It's not even the first time they were caught making this "mistake".

Force the owners to sell the company and bar them from ever working in the transportation industry again.

I'd rather ride in the luggage compartment than sit next to the dregs that ride on buses. Plus being able to lay down and stretch out would be awesome.

As far as I can see the biggest risk would be from an exhaust leak or something due to the enclosed environment and relative close proximity to the inner workings.

Is it cheaper? With the cost of travel these days this could be an option.

You guys are insane. You know how uncomfortable it is to ride in a car without A/C in the summer? Try riding in a shut-up luggage compartment on a farking bus.

I blame the TSA, they made air travel well-nigh impossible for a self-respecting traveller, so buses and trains get overloaded.

I don't think that people who travel by bus can afford "neat stuff."

/Used to travel by bus. The most expensive thing I carried was a 20-year old electric shaver.

Really. I used to travel by Greyhound a lot, and I'd gladly have traded one of those "seats" for a roomy lie-down in the luggage bay.

I say if its good enough for Reba mcintyres kids its good enough for some poor, dumb michigander. She had a hole in the floor down to her kids sleeping compartments. No big deal.

The order said the company may resume operations of commercial vehicles after taking certain steps that include identifying the cause of its noncompliance and developing plans for dealing that noncompliance.

Ummm... the plan is "don't do that again." However, since this isn't the first time, it probably won't be the last time. This is probably an attempt to make more money on each run.
