Hardworking people could be having fun in unapproved ways and they must be denied employment!

Alright, I admit it, Gattaca makes me way more emotional than it should. It just gets so dusty in the room whenever he says that he didn't save anything for the swim back. That being said genetic privacy is going to cause all kinds of issues in the future, which is a shame, because you can't really help what you're born with.

Not to mention, you shed your genome all over the place. If some unscrupulous person wants to know what your genotype is, all he has to do is wait for you to throw out a kleenex, or pull a hair off your head.

You think that's bad? It's a near certainty this kind of process would have a failure rare, especially in the early days, and in a lot of cases you would not know until the kid was older. Also consider what the poor kids where the process fails would have to go through. How would you like to live out your life with a deformity or mental illness or handicap, knowing that you could have been fine except for your parents thinking you weren't good enough to begin with?

Funny unfortunately the joke may be on us


The pampering and "special education" (think gifted and talented programs on steriods) these kids will recieve will mark them as special/superior in their own minds. So even if gen-modding like your kid turns out to be juck science like Eugenics, we will still end up with a large number of over achieving sociopaths who believe they are superior. God help us all if the results do not match tthe snowflakes expectations and they become cadre for revolutions.

Yeah, there are just so many ways this sort of thing can go horribly. horribly wrong, in very plausible and easily predictable ways, just based on standard human behaviours.

I really think that training in empathy and civic-mindedness might actually be in order. It's always been sort of assumed that it would be handled by the parents, but the possibilities inherent to stuff like this makes me think we can't leave it entire up to chance.
