2003-08-19 3:41:45 PM
Argh... shameless promotions and using farkers as corporate tools. I ask you this fellow farkers... Are you a tool?

A bone to pick:

Why does it bother everyone so much that Drew might make a bit of money off this site sometimes?
You don't think enough work goes into it that the people spending their time running Fark should get something out of it?
It's not like the majority of people here are too stupid to figure out which ones are the sponsored links.
If it's sponsored and you happen to like the company / artist / whatever, support them and if you don't, don't.

The people running this site are adults.
When you are an adult, especially one with a family, you usually can't spend the bulk of your waking hours doing charity work just to keep the purists happy.
Unless Drew married into a moneyed family and I'm just not up on the gossip?

A lot of people are getting a great thing for free here, and you and I are getting our five bucks worth even with a link like this thrown in here and there.

My point?
Get over it.

Like communal non-commercial web communities?
Go over and become a DMOZ editor.

'Supporting Fark' shouldn't mean 'at the expense of those running it'.

Ya, what Ku_No_Ichi said! Take that!
2003-08-20 12:15:56 AM
Yes, swingster, I am a tool.
2003-08-20 11:56:01 AM
I would enter this if I had the skill. How about an animated GIF of a winking frog? Will that do?
2003-08-20 11:56:49 AM
You're so cute when you're mad, Ku...

2003-08-20 11:57:22 AM

Are there limits on this contest? length of movie, subject matter, file size, etc?

I dont plan to enter, but I'm sure someone is wondering...
2003-08-20 12:01:24 PM
Why Generation_D, did you show Ringo ? You know once you see the Ringo, you only have seven days left ...

I'm guessing you didn't read the page ;-)

Ringo (Starr) is the best Beatle. For serious. - IAmTheWalrus212

Well of course, he's the only one still alive.

/mccartney is already a corpse
2003-08-20 12:03:06 PM

Sir. Please come down. We need the soap box back.

Thanks. The Management.
2003-08-20 12:03:17 PM
Here is my moving picture for

Oh!! wait!!! Ringo? SONNOFA!!
2003-08-20 12:03:44 PM
anyone else find it funny that this business is sorta like a dating service and that they are asking farkers/farkettes for advert ideas...
2003-08-20 12:04:19 PM
I think that this is a cool idea... where's my video camera? I'm off to do some casting...
2003-08-20 12:06:30 PM
Im sorry, Javier. :(
2003-08-20 12:08:04 PM
Ku_No_Ichi Gawd, gimme a farking break. Bandwidth costs money, ya know!
2003-08-20 12:08:14 PM

Well said...too many people want something for nothing...

And I'm a tool. My hat's in the ring.

"Here at Ringo, we are bored with surprises. Therefore, we will switch to 'surprizes' W00t."
2003-08-20 12:12:16 PM
I've lost count of the amount of times I've seen Ku get mistaken for a gentleman. Dearie me.

And for the record, she's right.
2003-08-20 12:13:48 PM
I coulda sworn that I wrote Ku_No_Ichi in bold there and it came out Ku. That'll teach me to go agreeing with people.
2003-08-20 12:15:15 PM
By submitting your entry to us you are confirming that has the unreserved right to distribute/broadcast your ad.

For only a $1000 bucks?

Sounds like you guys are too cheap to pay for a real production studio to make a commercial. Well, good luck to you talented farkers, maybe this could be a good break.
2003-08-20 12:16:07 PM
One day we rode the mountain crest
And I went east and he went west
I took to law and wore a star
While he spread terror near and far
With lead and blood he gained such fame
All through the west they feared the name of Ringo
2003-08-20 12:17:21 PM
I should just make a video of me saying "I've got nuthin'" and hope that no one else enters
2003-08-20 12:19:27 PM
"Ringo -- It's like a circle jerk... without the jerk!"
2003-08-20 12:20:16 PM
This seems Pretty cool, and now I'll have an excuse to use my freshly purchased Canon GL-2 ;-)
2003-08-20 12:22:16 PM
Sounds pretty interesting to me...

I don't have an ounce of talent to get involved, but I'll be interested in seeing the submissions.

And yeah Ku_No_Ichi is right...
2003-08-20 12:23:14 PM
What they fail to mention is where we will see these ads? My idea would entail a beautiful naked woman dancing while holding a sign that says "If you join, I will fark you into oblivion."

BTW Nu Ko Ichi is absofarkinglootely right.
2003-08-20 12:26:08 PM
How in the hell can you create a 60 second 320x240 mov file and keep in under 2MB? I just cut a trailer for a full-length that I'm making and at 2.25 minutes, even with a low-quality Sorenson 3 compression, it was still 34.7MB.

/have to think about this one...
2003-08-20 12:27:14 PM
Funny, I was just thinking yesterday in the shower that Fark ought to have Video Edit contests (Premiere Contests if you want to stick to Adobe products). That I was in the shower when I was thinking about this is inconsequential.

Not that I could be bothered to participate often. They take more time than a PS contest.
2003-08-20 12:27:44 PM

All that power of a GL-2 and only for 320x240. So much raw power going to waste.
2003-08-20 12:29:47 PM
Too bad he's the next one to die.
2003-08-20 12:29:53 PM
Skinink -- I love Zombocom! Great reference! :-) Also, I don't know anything about Ringo, but it looks and sounds a lot like Friendster.
2003-08-20 12:30:20 PM
Photoshop, check.. Animated Gifs, check... HTML and other various crap, also check... but Video editing?...

I'm in! Expect the unexpected and perpare for the unknown.

(My first piece will be staring the goat!)
2003-08-20 12:33:40 PM
Looks like they'll let anyone in:

Peeps who need friends should learn HTML like this gal did, [image from too old to be available], but that would put ringo out of bidness.
2003-08-20 12:34:45 PM

Plus with the compression to get it down to under 2 MB, there goes all those beautiful CCDs of colour... :(
2003-08-20 12:35:54 PM
Sorry. Conflict of interest.
