Huh huh huh... butt.
2001-10-24 10:42:28 AM
To hell with the courts, you WILL stand up for the pledge!
2001-10-24 10:43:35 AM
I got a zit on my butt.
2001-10-24 10:44:25 AM
mark my words, this thread will get ugly.

Homeowner associations are evil. There's no need for them. Just a bunch of people with nothing to do but interfere with their neighbors. I was at a friend's house and mistakenly parked about 4 inches on the lawn because there was no space on the driveway. The doorbell rang a few minutes later. One of those losers informed me that I had to move my car. Any ruling against those associations is a good thing.

More wacky antics from the Florida Government....First, your vote doesn't count, then neither do your opinions, thoughts or beliefs on patriotism....

Just make the state motto "Freedom is Slavery" and be done with it. Oh...and make the state seal a giant floating head of Jeb.
2001-10-24 10:51:06 AM
You're right on the mark, Spurt. But the laws, while I don't agree with them, aren't as severe as I thought from the headline.

Are these bills silly and uneccessary? - Yes, there's much more important legislation to attend to these days.

Are they proposing penalties for being unpatriotic, or some such nonsense? - No.
2001-10-24 10:51:41 AM
If I form a band I think I'll name it "The 'Indian Creek Phase III-B Homeowners Association' Posse".
2001-10-24 10:51:47 AM
Did you guys hear? just announced that butt flag tattoos are mandatory!! I'm going to the tattoo shop now!
2001-10-24 10:52:48 AM
what about a tattoo of wings..?
2001-10-24 10:53:40 AM
Forcing anyone to stand up for the pledge is just too much. This is when patriotism turns into nationalism and it's scary. Maybe it wouldn't bother me as much if it weren't for the 'one nation under God' part. If I'm an atheist, am I no longer a good American?
2001-10-24 10:54:33 AM
You HAVE to stand up, but you don't have to recite it? I suppose that is a reaonable compromise. I suppose that kind of goes with our other school policy of you have to show up, but you don't have to learn.
2001-10-24 10:54:55 AM
There's nothing available in Del Boca Vista!
2001-10-24 10:55:27 AM
" nation under gawd with corporate tax relief and payraises for congress."

Very good, class. now turn to page 178 in your Social Studies book and cross out the bill of rights. After we are finished please pass your lobbying money to the front of your row where our Congressional liaison will use it to buy sex, drugs, and weapons to mark up and resell to Chinese terrorist cells.

Student1834G!! Stop staring out the window like you've never seen a fascist regime before! Now, it is time to genuflect before the bust of Ashcroft. Please bare your buttflagtattoos and tremble in fear.
2001-10-24 10:57:10 AM
Could someone please point me in the direction of Ashcroft's proposed Anti-Terrorism bill that's being voted on later this week? Thanks in advance!

Will work for Prairie Squid.
2001-10-24 10:57:14 AM
Zanetate: as much as I hate to admit it, in the last month i have found that being an atheist means you are not a good american.

Just read the lyrics to GBA.

Midgettossa - ROFLMAO!

2001-10-24 11:03:05 AM
For all my school career I had to argue with teachers about my refusal to say the pledge. I would actually stand up just out of respect to the other students but I would never say the pledge. Simply because of the fact that I am an athiest. I had teachers give me after school detention, threaten to suspend me, and others even threatened to force my parents to send me to a psychologist. I'm just glad I'm not in school any more to have to deal with that crap. I like living here in America but I don't have be brainwashed every damn day by reciting a bunch of words that I think are out of date and banal. Sorry....I had to rant.
2001-10-24 11:03:14 AM
I can't hekp to think of all the poor patriotic crippled people falling out of there wheel chairs during the pledge.

More laws so politicians can say they are doing something.
2001-10-24 11:10:31 AM
Open season on all poloticians (and yes, allthough I am against guns, guns are allowed in this case).
2001-10-24 11:11:09 AM
can't we just implant a speaker into the chest of each student that will play the anthem and recite the pledge 3 times a day as they bow in the direction of the statue of liberty?!
2001-10-24 11:11:39 AM
Oooops, typo: 'poloticians' must of course be 'politicians'.
Damn, I need that preview thingee.
2001-10-24 11:13:17 AM
Manda: Similar situation, except I wasn't an atheist at the time (am now). No one could give me a satisfactory explanation as to what the words 'under God' were doing, considering that the USA purports to maintain a separation of church and state, so I refused to recite the pledge.
2001-10-24 11:13:46 AM
Dalai Lama,
Excellent idea, but conflicting with physical integrity of human beings. Also, what about people who do not believe in liberty (Osama bin Laden)?

Appie what a person believes is (apparently) moot
2001-10-24 11:16:53 AM
Ooh this is scary
2001-10-24 11:17:41 AM
Dalai Lama,
I was already afraid of that.
2001-10-24 11:18:27 AM
This will not do.
Thou shalt keep his name holy.

If this goes on.
2001-10-24 11:19:40 AM
Nehemiah Scudder,
Keep quiet, you Christian fundamentalist.
2001-10-24 11:19:41 AM
MAndatory patriotism. I think they got that in China, too.
2001-10-24 11:19:47 AM

Seriously, though: I wish I could have spent longer at school in America just so I could dangerously exercise free will.
2001-10-24 11:20:26 AM
This thing will blow over when people come to their senses. Give it a couple of months.
2001-10-24 11:22:17 AM
What are the penalties of not doing it?
2001-10-24 11:22:21 AM
A couple of months? I think you are underestimating human stupidity.
2001-10-24 11:22:39 AM
Ah...the wonderful bliss of high school....where they teach you all about freedom of speech and self expression then make you sit in after school detention for two hours just because you won't say the FARKING PLEDGE! Stupid hypocritcal biatches. I love this place but I can't wait to move to Sicily. There I can join the Mafia and raise sheep. YAY!!!! I love that place.
2001-10-24 11:23:53 AM
I got your patriotism right here, you stupid sheep.
2001-10-24 11:25:11 AM
2001-10-24 11:26:09 AM
Yah it is America land of the free, I mean, the Land where we force you to be patriotic! Nothing like celebrating freedom as you lose your freedom.
2001-10-24 11:26:34 AM
Why would residents of Jupiter have to fly the US flag?

Wow... colonialism has spread throughout the solar system now?

Where the hell have I been?

Good, it's about time. and before you flame away at this article and me, it says, if you don't won't to say the words, or place your hand on your heart, you don't have to!
I can hear the echos of your whines already, this isn't right. They require the kid stand up, that's fascism, blah blah, shut-up, so the kid takes 40 seconds of his morning to stand in silence for his country, the people who died to build it, and defend it, (40 seconds that's it) the whole rest of the day that student lives in his/her free spirited, rebelous can do anything i want attitude.(i think it's a fair exchange) But, i still here you saying, it's not right to force someone to do something. These students are forced to go to school, forced to sit in their chairs and forced not talk to each other in class, so what's one more law, that will maybe teach some sense of honor to them. And i know you saw the flag at the beginning of my post, so lets take 40 seconds(to pause from your busy life to look at it....for real now....think of what a wonderful country you live in and no matter what small little silly laws they pass or don't pass, it will always the greatest, financally, politically, etc etc country to live in)---now was that so hard. AND if your not from the US don't post something from my post cause i wasn't talking to you.

P.s. i won't respond to your negative comments or re-read the thread, so don't bother to flame, see ya later
2001-10-24 11:28:46 AM
There goes Florida again - changing laws that have already been established.

1943 - you dont have to salute the flag

2001 - you dont have to, but dammit you'll STAND

They're getting pretty good at it.
2001-10-24 11:29:48 AM
"Patriotism Law" is an oxymoron.
2001-10-24 11:30:00 AM
anyone know why there hasn't been one article on fark about the cannabis reforms in the UK?

I am not listening NANANANANANAANANA
2001-10-24 11:32:57 AM
He'll read it again. Just watch. He'll sit at home and get all upset and cry and worship his American flag and chant the pledge a million times to cleanse his ears of all the 'anti-patriotism' we're spouting. Whoohoo. I'm so proud of him. I hope he gets a cookie.
I love America....I just am not a mindless crowd pleaser like some people are. And if I don't believe in something you better farking believe I'm gonna make a stand on it.

Damn me and my liberal viewpoints. I'll probably burn in hell for it...or something. :P
2001-10-24 11:34:40 AM
By the way....BOOBIES!

You know....just to lighten things up a bit.
2001-10-24 11:36:26 AM
Did Flags Inc. give a lot of money to Jeb Bush, to get this law passed so quickly? Damn lobbyists (sp.).
2001-10-24 11:40:02 AM
Spurt: When it is mandatory to stand up and apologize to Indians for stealing their land and killing their families and cultures, then I will set aside 40 seconds of valuable farking time. Until then we are operating under a lie.

Fat Tulip I submitted a link to one of those stories, but the bastards here at Fark obviously don't care about Blighty enough...
