Well there's a link to that page on the top right of Fark. Under the Twitter and Facebook links. I never noticed it until I accidentally clicked it.

Excuse me, but I may have breached Photoshop protocol.

Could someone tell me who is supposed to post the "O" for a thread: Subby or the mod if the thread is greenlit?

‘’ 2013-05-05 03:24:33 PM
the O is normally posted by the first person in the thread. you see the contest, create an entry, post the O then your entry.

that assumes you have a host available for the O (a resized copy of the real O) but if you are entering you should have. OTOH if your host will barely handle your entry you can ask here for someone to post the O so you may follow it. folks generally will do that if asked.

Herr Docktor Heinrich Wisenheimer: Choc-Ful-A: just wanted to say that I wanted to cast eleventy votes for your entry in the "Residents Recording" contest.

Thanks! But now I've got Constantinople stuck in my head again.

Great video!  I hadn't seen it before but it's perfect for the song and I now won't be able to hear the song without thinking of that weird singing head mounted taxidermy style.

I think I'm going to have to spend time time on YT checking out other Residents videos now.

That's the kind of entry in which I just make a cutout and then free associate.

I feel the need to apologize for some of my post operative entries. So great is the need to 'shop that I have tried to train my left  hand to push pixels. It is frustrating, and counterintuitive. My egg entry took too long and came out lacking, in every regard.
I hope you all can be patient with me. Thanks kindly.

Dumski: Speaking of mysteries ..last Friday I was lifting a washing machine into my truck with dear wifey. What was that tearing sound I heard coming from my elbow accompanied by extreme pain?
"Nothing" I say, ice and Tylenol helped. Fast forward to today, and after deep introspection I decided to get my doc to check it. Turns out this former ER nurse dismissed the possibility of a torn bicep tendon.
"Why yes, yes it is" says doc, "let me go find an orthopaedic surgeon".
Egads, I've never had an operation before in my life, but tomorrow it will happen.
Turns out this injury is very rare at the elbow join, and usually the domain of body builders and men around fifty.
If I don't get it fixed I will lose 40% of arm function, and its my dominant arm!
Strange how much your arm function is totally dependant on your

If you're excited to see what will happen to me you can find the repair on YouTube "distal bicep tendon repair"
Bye for now.....

Dumski,
Sorry to hear you had that happen. I did the same last fall and it isn't fun. Hopefully the pain is starting to subside. Did you get the straight incision or the s-curve? Six months later and I my arm is back to full use - just in time for spring yard work.. The sturgeon touched a nerve while he was in so I get numbness for the next couple of year and an itchy scar, but yeah, that whole reversing the 40% loss of function makes it worth it all.
Oh, and yeah, I got screwed on the drugs, too. Some crappy stuff with no buzz and just made me sick after a day or two.
Hang in there, you'll be back lugging around dyers sooner than you want.

There are five entries from that contest on that page. I'm too lazy to go check the dates of the contests, but you've got me wondering if that was when it first started, or if you just noticed it after there were more than five entries?

I didn't mean it that way, and I still don't know if Fark started it, or if a Farker did.

Hell, I don't even have a Pinterest account as far as I know.

Anyone here with an account able to pin something to that place?

Also would that be considered spamming if a Farker were to pin their favorites up?

My apologies if I have breached any etiquette then. There have been a few times where a thread has begun and there is no O, so I went ahead and posted it. Just thought I was helping. If it's a no-no, I will refrain in the future.

Whether you need to be spanked* depends on (a) the size of the O, and (b) the source.  It is usually rehosted and posted in the contest in case the O's source gets Farked.

*Unless, of course, spanking is your thing...

Hmmm. The elephant in the room, that is not mentioned, is that CS has always been one of the most popular file shares for years and has cost adobe thousands in lost revenue.
The average consumer will keep what they have and leave the subscription service to those who think they need it.

Dumski: The elephant in the room,

there is that and cloud subscription will stop it. pros will go that way since they can write it off. some advanced amateurs too. the great unwashed masses -- like you i doubt it. so with the new revenue stream they'll get more? less? i for one wonder. and the second or third time the cloud hiccups while joe pro is 99% through something -- oh dear there will be nasty blog posts everywhere.

somewhere on this computer or another one i have a picture from the french quarter of a horseman statue. the angle it was shot at left a background flag pole going through it. took a while but i got 99% out and had a decent photo when done. did that to see if i could and how hard it is. with the above "tutorial" the offending seagulls were by themselves on a solid background. with the horseman the pole ran up to the horse's belly, above the saddle and then in the sky. oh look it's in my archives. just a minute while i upload it.

ok go here. O then fixed are the first two photos.

If I can find that picture, I'll post my dad at my sisters wedding in 1972. Red plaid jacket, white pants and muttonchops...the real mccoy, 'stache and all.
Jeebus, I was wearing a canary coloured jacket, and my brother in law looked like Buddy Holly.
Good times.

‘’ 2013-05-06 11:49:46 PM
George Babbitt:  Was that done with the Resynthesizer?

yes. a little here, a little there. look by the riders hand on the flag staff. the sky isn't uniform because of the clouds so you have to do smaller bits. along in there is rough. there was some clean up with the eraser (although i'm not sure that's what the Gimp calls it) and some general fixing but the majority of the removal was resynthesizer. the example on the beach shows how clean it can be when it works well. it's pretty powerful and on a computer with some horse power fairly quick. IIRC that was done of a dual core AMD with probably just 2 GB RAM.
