Sorry, I'm a lib and I'm not buying it. Anonymous doesn't call for boycotts. If Koch's main server is replaced by goatse, I might reconsider. They also didn't call them richfags. That reads exactly like earnest progressive Anonymous fan fiction.

Before the derp brigade gets their drawers in a bunch, let me just say that I don't condone this at all.

That said, I'm curious as to how many of the righties who rationalized away the hacking of the climate scientist emails will scream bloody murder over this.

So we'll sit back and watch a bunch of basement dwellers get arrested by the FBI and sent to PMITA prison to have their creamy flabby assflesh churned into butter? Works for me.

Yeah, remember what happened the last time a bunch of them were supposedly arrested?

Exactly. If you are trying to get to sensitive documents why would you announce your intention to do it?

I would say mostly because it wasn't covered by the national media. There were some interesting revelations I read in a Salon.com article.

Well put.

This will likely prove to be an easy target. Most people would think they would have excellent IT and network security, but from my experience companies like Koch have sh*t.

Why? Well, in companies run by people like the Koch's, especially private companies, it is really hard to get budget money for things that don't immediately increase the bottom line. That sort of attitude permeates through the ranks. These are the same kinds of companies that will outsource their helpdesk or systems admins because it saves a dollar today in IT costs. No one looks at the soft costs it raises by harming productivity, they only look at the hard costs for today.

I remember doing work for companies that were run by private equity groups. Those guys look at IT and IT security as the ultimate burden. I remember one company wouldn't even allow us to talk about "security" because that was a red flag to management that it would "stall progress or make things harder".

I'd make a guess that Koch will be f*cked pretty easily.

2011-02-27 1:27:56 AM
Also, it's pretty easy to figure out what a large company runs, who's in charge of it, etc...

You start at the open positions, and their IT people on LinkedIN. Chances are you'll find out 90% of their systems, versions, etc.. For a company like Koch, you'd also have to sift through outsource outfits that do the "managed service" thing. Look at their job postings near large Koch offices and you'll probably find the other 10% plus info on the other 90%.

If anon does this, they're going to have to do it right, and do some serious research. They can't do it by just doing a drive-by hacking like they did with HBGary.

/Not condoning it

dennysgod: Anonymous going after WBC has so far turned into a big "meh" so I'm not expecting much.

That's because Anonymous didn't go after WBC. The WBC operation was a honeypot so WBC could rack up dough on lawsuits. Anon's counter-letter even stated such. WBC left their shiat wide open for intrusion, and it was for a reason.

Someone independent of Anon went and cleaned WBC's clocks though.

As for this... Outside of the usual LOIC barrage, it's the 1% of Anon that knows what they are doing that I'm interested to watch.

/I concur with CSB.
//I'd even put money on a good majority of their IT being contracted, not in-house.

Interestingly, what they left on the server said Anonymous. Which is kinda the point, there's no such thing as independent of Anonymous, Anonymous is everywhere, it is anyone.

Though whoever did it, actually changed WBC's domain registration record. Also taking the site down so hard it stopped resolving in DNS for almost 24 hours is impressive. And their site is still down.

Well, whoever did it, did a pretty impressive job. Fun thing is, there was a list of what was on their network, and it included two ancient Lynksys wireless routers, which would've made it possible to screw things up royally sitting in a parked car around the corner. Also the firewall they came across is a piece of junk.

As for anon doing the job right, I suspect that the really effective people are people who know how to do the job right. Right down to the social engineering part. And there's always the chance that with something like this, one of them is an insider.

All libs have now become paranoid Koch whores. I guess blaming Palin for everything 24/7 just wasn't cutting it anymore. However, both are equally funny/pathetic to watch.

Here's a quick test for the Koch whores. How many state budget deficits were caused by the Kochs as part of a broader master plan in the great right-wing conspiracy?

Yeah, it is paranoid to think there is a quid pro quo between Walker and the Kochs. It isn't like there is anything in the Wisconsin bill that would enrich the Koch brothers.

I've seen some crazy sh*t in my time. My favorite of all favorites is when a company has two ISPs and their solution is to configure two extra VLANs on their core switch for their ISPs and firewall's outside interface to plug in to. The response I always get back is... b...bbb...buut it's not routable! and VLANs are secure!!!

This type of thing is more common than you would ever believe. From small silicon valley startups to large multinational companies. It is also pretty common for outsourced douchebags to do this type of thing. Why? Because they are there to save the company money, and they professed they are CCIE-Level guys... so they can use their vast knowledge of VLANs to save the company $2k on switches for an internet mux.

I remember one day being in downtown Chicago and as I was about to get online at Starbucks I checked out what all networks my wifi was picking up. Among other things, two corporate wifi networks with WEP encryption. Yep, when a 13 year old can help themselves to your wifi, you're at risk of being boned.

Yeah, why can't ALL libs stop being paranoid retards and remove the wool from their eyes and notice something self evident like that Obama and Soros intentionally tanked the economy so they could implement the final plans for socialism. It's a good thing your side is 100% even keeled rational minds so that you can make judgments like this about the other side.
