Repeat. For Israel, I mean.

2011-01-03 12:39:07 PM
And when they run out of bombs and other supplies a week or two later (see pretty much every and come begging to the US for new supplies, but the US need the oil from those countries that were attacked, what is Israel going to do? It can't always be blamed on a crappy general they fire every season who screws up like in Lebanon.

Wait. Israel's going to drag the rest of the Middle East 500 years ahead?

2011-01-03 12:42:33 PM
The Gaza war -- a response to hundreds of rockets fired into the Jewish State -- killed some 1,400 mainly civilian Palestinians and 13 Israelis, 10 of them soldiers. It ended on January 18, 2009.

But I've been told that Palestinians are the ones that target civilians.

2011-01-03 12:43:16 PM
I'm confused...
Is this guy just talking general POLICY ? as in.. how a responsible commander would and should prepare his army for whatever battles they MIGHT face?
(Like how China would feel the need to develop aircraft carrier killing missiles?)

Or is this a big conspiracy that proves Israel is evil and about to kill all their neighbors ?
I'll check back in an hour to have fark teach me.

2011-01-03 12:43:44 PM
It's about time. Go Israel!

2011-01-03 12:44:01 PM
Israel needs a good biatch slap as much as anybody in that region.

You remember that kid in high school who was the son of the principal or teacher? The one that got away with anything because any retaliation got the adult involved? The one that got their ass beat down the day the parent retired?

/Best analogy I could think of

2011-01-03 12:44:45 PM
Terrorists are farking cowards. Hiding amongst civilians then biatching when civilian kill count is high. Of COURSE it is high. When you use civilians as your shield, civilians get killed. SHOCKER.

And of course Israel gets criticized by the rest of the world for high civilian mortality in its wars. It really disgusts me.

Israel is the only country in the mideast that is actually worth a shiat

2011-01-03 12:46:54 PM
This is not new, they are always in that state of "preparing for a large scale war"... Much like how all the other countries in the area are planning to wipe Isreal off the map "real soon now". And it continues, decade after decade.

The animals that keep firing off rockets indiscriminately and then scurrying like the rats they are to hide behind women and children don't deserve any better than being blown up or better yet hanged in public.
I'd love to see Israel really put a beat-down on these vermin.

Misleading headline, FTA:

"I am preparing the Israeli army for a large scale war, since it is easier to scale down to a smaller operation than to do the opposite"

Much like the US, China, Russia, Iran, etc almost certainly do, they're probably gaming out worst-case scenarios and preparing for them. The mere act of planning does not (by itself) imply that they reasonably expect to have to use these plans.

Shocking. Tatsuma, can you please remind us again that it's OK for Israel to kill all the brown people they want for no reason, because they're special or something?

Old not news is still not news.

2011-01-03 1:00:38 PM
People seem to miss the end of the first statement..."since it is easier to scale down to a smaller operation than to do the opposite,"

Israel is just being smart in their diplomatic messages, because they just MIGHT get leaked. It would be quite the embarrassment if they publicly said they were "prepared for a large scale war", while telling the US "we've only got enough to keep the lights on."....and having THAT message get leaked.

They have to say that. Regardless of what the reality is.

While we're on the subject - why are these messages still called 'cables'? Are they still using a telegraph?

2011-01-03 1:01:15 PM
If Isreal shoots any missiles to Iran or vice versa then its gonna be one huge Fark party!

kokomo61: While we're on the subject - why are these messages still called 'cables'? Are they still using a telegraph?

Explanation (new window)

"It's kind of like a group e-mail. For many years the term cable referred to the formal telegrams that consular staffers would send across the oceans and around the world in Morse code."

...

"But in more recent times, the cable started to function almost exactly like an e-mail"

fark Israel, and fark all their neighbors. I hope they exterminate each other.

Israel is probably always planning for wars with its neighbors. I'm sure the Pentagon has plans to invade Canada and Mexico, too. And I have plans for lunch.

... and, somehow (magically?), the oil supplies and trade routes through the region remain completely unaltered.

There was a Bond marathon on BBC America yesterday. I laughed a little bit every time he talked about sending a cable.

According to the Likuds, their 20 to 1 kill ratio (~20 Palestinians killed for every 1 Israeli so far) is simply not high enough. They would like to shoot for 30 to 1.

The reality:

No one really expects that, but you can't have it both ways -- claim that "we're so awesome and they're so weak/stupid/underpowered" AND simultaneously claim that "OMG, they're an existential threat. We're living on the edge of utter annihilation" etc etc etc.

Also, law of unintended consequences.
"We" think: we have drones, and tanks, and smart bombs. We're so awesome, they will cower in fear before said awesomeness.
"They" think: they fight with robots because the cowards are too afraid to fight man-to-man.

etc etc etc. The imagery and language of war is fascinating (if terribly grim).

Of course Israel kills civilians. Their enemy is civilians. The soldier/civilian distinction does not apply to the type of conflict Israel is in with Hezbollah and Hamas. I don't blame them for hitting back. Them's the breaks. I also don't blame them for preparing to strike their neighboring nations who have a history of ganging up on them. Even preemptively.

That being said, it's Israel's problem. The US has no interest getting involved.

Considering their neighbors took in Palestinian refugees and two generations later STILL keep them penned up in camps and refuse to integrate them, there is something to that statement. Lebanon is pretty much controlled by mutually hostile outsiders; Syria is, well, Syria; Jordan is friendly to us but still keeps the refugees in camps; Iraq was only really united by a dictator who killed and terrorized his way to power; Iran goes without saying; and Saudi elites for decades have spent like drunken Trumps, ignored their own people, made a pact to legitimize Wahhabism and exported disaffected Saudi nationals to every other Muslim country. UAE tries to be modern, but it's been well documented for a while that foreign laborers brought over from India and other places are pretty much kept in perpetual indentured servitude. Qatar is suffering the consequences of neglecting their people, same as Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I don't know much about Kuwait except they borrowed a lot of money from Saddam and didn't pay it back. Turkey ardently stresses their Indo-European roots and the typical Turk I meet has a lot of hostility and loathing for Arabs and Kurds. Israel was land promised to the Palestinians for their own independent nation in exchange for their rebellion against the Ottomans in World War I.

Most of the Middle East's problems come down to support for undeserving abusive leaders who encourage sectarian, tribal and ethnic conflicts.

The sooner that stink hole called terrorist state of Israel is taken out of it's misery, the sooner white America and their immediate neighbors can breathe a sigh of relief, not sending white Americans to die in their wars, looting and raping our nation by the likes of Greenspan,Wolfowitz,Blankfein and countless other subversives that have infiltrated our Government,Commerce and banking system, carrying dual passports and show no Allegiance to the United States.

Ah, another thread where the anti-semites can come out and rant. The real reason the Muslims are so pissed off at the Jews is that they had the nerve to actually pick up weapons and defend themselves rather than pay a tax to the Muslims to (not!) do it for them.
The only reason Egypt, for example, maintains even a semblance of religious freedom is that most tourists are non-Muslims and without tourism, the entire Egyptian economy would go down faster than Cleo the first time Caesar lifted his toga.

BolloxReader: Iran goes without saying

Which part? The part where we overthrew their democracy and now we whine like little girls 'cause they don't like us?

same as Afghanistan

Again, you'll completely ignore Soviet and US involvement in Afghanistan's present state?

the typical Turk I meet has a lot of hostility and loathing for Arabs and Kurds

Then you've really never met a typical Turk. Maybe you've met some very "Westernized" Turks but (especially these days) there is greatly increasing trade and travel between Turkey and the Arab world. IIRC Turkey no longer even requires visit visas from citizens of several Arab countries.

The next time the palestinians bomb Israeli cities, Israel should deactivate the bomb alarms and close up bomb shelters so israeli civilians can die in appropriate numbers.

In 1967 the UN put the population of Gaza at 375,000 more or less.

Today it is 1.4 million.

Throughout the third world, Moslem nations are reproducing at an alarming rate, 3.0% to 3.5% typically, and the economy is not keeping pace. It is static in "good" years, retrograde in bad years.

That means, every 24 years there are twice as many people, but no more money. They are forced into war by their own actions, yet they consistently blame everyone else but themselves.
