Welcome to Farktography!

This Week's Theme: "He's a Fun Guy"

Description
: Fungus, lichens, molds, and mosses.

We ask that before submitting your photos you read and adhere to the following submission rules, including but not limited to the following:

- Submissions must be photographs; screen captures do not count as photographs.
- You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not submit anyone else's photography as your own.
- You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit the same photo to another contest later.
- You may enter 3 photos in each contest as long as each photo is of a different composition.
- Please post each photo separately so they can be voted for individually.

Please note:

The overarching ideal behind Farktography is that image corrections are acceptable, while adding or removing elements in the image (e.g. removing telephone poles, adding Elvis) is not acceptable. HDR, stitching, or otherwise combining exposures in post processing are not allowed unless specified for a particular theme (multiple exposures done in-camera are acceptable, however).
See the rules for more information on acceptable modifications, or check in at the Farktography Forums.

Legal: All photographers submitting photos to this contest are the legal copyright holders for the photos submitted and the photos are not to be considered free for any other use without written consent from the submitting photographers.

- Drop by the Farktography Forum (for chatting, critique, techtalk and so on)
- Stats can be found here.
- Image hosting sites can be found here.

Is it the file size or the pixel dimensions? I usually only upload Fark-file-size photos to Flickr, then grab the link to the original which won't add file size bloat like the other sizes will.

I resized it and reduced the quality 4 times now and deleted all the larger sizes and Flicker says its the same damn file size.I cannot get it down to Fark standards no matter what I try. I feel like I'm gonna have a f...n stroke fighting with it. I give up for tonight.

I was fascinated with these little toadstools. The beauty of them sitting in the middle of a trash strewn rest area was amazing. Wish the camera hadn't gone out of focus on the background. May have to give up and use film instead of digital to improve my pictures.

evangelical atheist: Wish the camera hadn't gone out of focus on the background. May have to give up and use film instead of digital to improve my pictures.

some people purposely strive for that kind of result :) Did you use a macro setting on your camera? Often when you focus in on something close like that, the rest of the image will be out of focus.

Depth of field - From Wikipedia:
In optics, particularly as it relates to film and photography, the depth of field (DOF) is the portion of a scene that appears acceptably sharp in the image. Although a lens can precisely focus at only one distance, the decrease in sharpness is gradual on each side of the focused distance, so that within the DOF, the unsharpness is imperceptible under normal viewing conditions.

In some cases, it may be desirable to have the entire image sharp, and a large DOF is appropriate. In other cases, a small DOF may be more effective, emphasizing the subject while de-emphasizing the foreground and background. In cinematography, a large DOF is often called deep focus, and a small DOF is often called shallow focus.

On the photo page at Flickr, go to the "share this" drop down box, and get the html code for the size image you want to post. It will give you the code to use, however, you need to be sure that your photo isn't over the Fark 200k file size limit (and really, less than 150k is safer; anything over 130-150k runs the risk of dropping into the ether at some point during hosting. Also, you'll need to be sure your pixel dimensions are no more than 640 wide and no more than 1100 tall.

Elsinor: Thanks
At the moment Flickr isn't letting me get the share this box so I guess I won't be posting anything here this week.

Looks like they had a bug earlier with their share button, but it should be fixed now. Either way, hope to see your photos soon!
