"Everybody is offended by something," she said. "I'm offended by a lot of those little girls running around with their thong panties showing, but I can't make that go away."

It's a special kind of person who aspires to be offensive and classless.

Oh, Christ!

-sorry-

It's Soddy-Daisy, the land that time and sanity forgot. I'm only surprised it doesn't make Fark more often than it does.

Weapons-grade stupid is their primary export, as demonstrated here.

2010-10-21 1:52:40 PM
Rhonda Thurman, your stupidity is going to cost your school a lot of money.

2010-10-21 2:00:12 PM
Or they can, you know, file a lawsuit.

2010-10-21 2:00:18 PM
Well that's one way to make sure you spend all the money in your budget for the year

2010-10-21 2:00:18 PM
"Put their fingers in their ears." Well that's just brilliant. And, if they happen to be showing pornography over the cc television in the school, anyone who might be offended can just "cover their eyes"

""Everybody is offended by something," she said. "I'm offended turned on by a lot of those little girls running around with their thong panties showing, but I can't make that go away.""

FTFY, Mr. administrator guy.

Up until Gr 11 we said the Lord's Prayer every morning along with the singing of O Canada.

Somewhere in Gr 12 they decided to make it "inclusive". Monday would be the Lord's Prayer. Tuesday would be something in Hebrew. Wednesday would be Muslim etc etc.

A few weeks of "baruch atah adonoi elohainu melech haolam, she lo assani goy / baruch atah adonoi enohainu melech haolam she lo assani isha" was all it took for my high school to ditch morning prayers entirely.

(yes. I had something to do with that prayer being selected. heh heh)

(no, I don't agree with the sentiment expressed in those prayers, but it sure was damned funny)

/cool megillah, bro

Sure you can. Send 'em over here.

If they were broadcasting the traditional Islamic "call to prayer" over their school's loudspeakers, I'd imagine Mrs. Thurman would be singing a different tune.

There's no hypocrisy like religious hypocrisy.

2010-10-21 2:01:58 PM
They should build prayer towers instead and broadcast a call to prayer from these towers, oh I don't know, say 5 or 6 times a day.

Public schools can't have dress codes that prohibit visible thong panties?

Religious tolerance is so wonderful. Everyone wants everyone else to tolerate their religion.

/How the heck does one pronounce "mglw'nafh" anyways?

2010-10-21 2:02:30 PM
So if someone walked into school tomorrow, got on the PA system and started shouting "ALLAHU AKBAR!", what would happen?

2010-10-21 2:03:16 PM
I really hate the way that most people who make an issue of prayer in school can't separate the idea of mandatory prayer (an government respecting the establishment of religion) and voluntary prayer. Every bit of rhetoric on the issue always assumes that the removal of former means the removal of the latter, which is absurd.

The way the court systems have established the issue of religion in schools is incredibly fair (can't force students to acknowledge religion, can't force teachers or students from practicing religion, can teach religion from an academic standpoint) and anyone who has a problem with it is really asking for more than their fair share of pie.

2010-10-21 2:03:32 PM
STFU Rhonda Thurman. Are you really going to waste government money to fight this? What farking douchebags. You do not have the right to have prayer over loudspeaker. Civil rights WILL prevail so stop farking wasting everyones time money and quit praying over an effing loudspeaker.

/I am also offended by little girls thongs showing but you DO have the right to authorize a dress code. You DO NOT have the right to subject public school children to your religious bullshiat.

School spends millions in taxpayer funds defending against separation lawsuit over pregame loudspeaker prayer.

Followup to followup:

School to lay off teachers, class sizes to increase, football program to get new stadium.

Dress code is one way but I'm willing to bet she is a very strict disciplinarian who will go to great lengths to show the girls the error of their way. Then sell it on DVD as a PTA fund raiser.

People like that would want to regulate what's shown on TV/cable and they wouldn't accept the excuse, "but you can change the station if it offends you", but this is okay to them. The problem is too many Christians have this fantasy where they think that saying words from the bible will convert non believers who hear them.

You got Soddy in my Daisy. You got Daisy in my Soddy.

I fail to get worked up over places that are little more than interstate exits. There's a kid listening to prayers right now in Soddy-Daisy and he's praying "dear lord, please deliver me from this dead end hick town."

2010-10-21 2:11:20 PM
If students don't want to hear prayers over PA system, they can "put their fingers in their ears use the PA speakers like target practice with a slingshot or a BB gun".

I think that's better.

I grew up when they didn't care if it offended you to listen to that shiat, they read the bible for 10mins in the morning when I was in elementary school, a not a bible school thingy either

You see what these schools don't get is not only are they going against the constitution on the separation of church and state but, also they pretty much are saying christianity is the only true religion. Not to mention that the whole God and Jesus thing is a myth.

I'm not sure about wherever the hell this is, but in my high school there was actually a dress code. Your underwear was not allowed to be showing as it was considered 'distracting'. And yes, the schools did enforce it.

/school also got rid of Christmas parties because they were religious
//Halloween too, sadly enough
