Hero?? More like "Asking for it". I have a hard time feeling sorry for people who try so desperately to get themselves in mortal danger.
2001-10-12 12:22:24 AM
make a tag called *biatch*
that's why she's single
2001-10-12 12:26:01 AM
Seriously, good for her for getting out alive, but she thinks it's because she was so difficult? I don't get it. Why were the Taliban upset that she wouldn't eat? They treat women worse than dogs anyway.
2001-10-12 12:27:16 AM
anyway, why is the Hero tag an american flag? huh? huh? I thought Fark was global.

I have been proven wrong.
2001-10-12 12:35:54 AM
not an American flag, dummy: that's a Texas flag!
2001-10-12 12:37:07 AM
if she was to die under their care they would be totally farked.

o wait! they are!
2001-10-12 12:53:32 AM
They are not men enough to handle a modern woman!
Western chicks rock!
Roar, sister, roar!
2001-10-12 12:55:01 AM
sounds like one major biatch
2001-10-12 12:57:39 AM
She sounds like the real life version of Lois Lane. She's lucky the stupid Taliban caught her instead of Luthor, then she woulda been farked.
2001-10-12 12:58:16 AM
I bet she's paparazzi.

And the 'hero' tag is being overused, methinks.
2001-10-12 12:59:20 AM
It's an upside down Texas flag. The Texas flag has white above red - the hero tag has red above white.

I think she decided to sneak across the border just to try and get some ink. They let her go because she's a pain in the ass and it's easier to let her go than to keep her. I don't think she deserves the hero tag.
2001-10-12 12:59:21 AM
Geez, maybe Regis wasn't joking when he said we oughtta send Kathie Lee over there.
2001-10-12 01:12:25 AM
That'll learn 'em.
2001-10-12 01:12:44 AM
You GO girl!

*three snaps*
2001-10-12 01:15:17 AM
She sounds French to me. You guys sure she wasn't French?
2001-10-12 01:20:54 AM
Froggy: My words exactly.
2001-10-12 01:21:58 AM
This chick is a reporter. She's a part of the media! They treat women like crap but they magically treated her really well and let her go? And the first thing she does when she is released from this "life-threatening" situation is call back to her work and not to her family? WHATEVER. I think saying that she exagerated is an understatement.
2001-10-12 01:22:06 AM
Mmmmm HMMM....

*head roll*
2001-10-12 01:23:19 AM
Sounds like some some serious spin doctoring to me, seems like the propaganda machine has been cranked up a couple of notches in the last 48 hrs..

"But even they couldn't suppress Yvonne Ridley, a tough-as-nails Briton"

"They had captured more than they had bargained for."
2001-10-12 01:31:25 AM
10-12-01 12:35:54 AM Zagloba
not an American flag, dummy: that's a Texas flag!

So, Texas is no longer in America?
2001-10-12 01:35:53 AM
A much better caption,
Even the Taliban can't stand the British press
2001-10-12 01:39:55 AM

She, in my humble opinion is more of a "MAN" - than most of you wimps, who find it funny to critisize/castergate/empty head troll, someone who is attempting to bring the real news to you couch potatoes, - will ever be.

We8 1:1
2001-10-12 01:46:39 AM
And oh yeah,

2001-10-12 02:03:49 AM
Did I hear something about Cockgoblins????
2001-10-12 02:19:35 AM
Ask any Texan, Texas was NEVER in America!

How is she more of a man? Because she walked stupidly into danger on a fool's errand? I'm sorry, but anybody who has been keeping track of current events and is white ought to stay the fark out of Afghanistan (And Pakistan and Indonesia, apparently) unless they have a small army escorting them. It doesn't take a whole lot of analysis to conclude that white skin isn't very popular right now.
Trying to "get the news" in a fool's errand isn't brave. If that's brave, then a lot of Darwin Award recipients can be brave too.
2001-10-12 02:23:37 AM
So, how many of you would be willing to go and do what she did?
Raise your hands if you think you have the Gonads and Strife
to enter afghanistan and interview the Taliban.
Put up or shut up.
And she is lucky to be alive.
2001-10-12 02:47:46 AM
still not a hero.
2001-10-12 02:47:54 AM
Two points:
1. If you want to overcome gender inequity, then don't compare women and men by their stereotypes.

2. She just personally made the Taliban a laughing stock to the rest of the world. That's quite an accomplishment.
2001-10-12 02:59:05 AM
What she did was incredibly stupid. Demanding a lawyer? Uh, since when is the Taliban a democracy? They could have killed her and went back to playing solitaire if they wanted to.

But you can't argue with results.

(BTW, how did they communicate? Does she speak their language, or do they speak english?)
2001-10-12 03:03:13 AM
Another Two Points:

1. Being a biatch had nothing to do with your release, you ego-inflated hack. In fact, you're lucky they didn't hold you as a human shield against bombardment. Count your blessings & shut the fark up.

2. With an attitude like that, you're also lucky they didn't drag you into a dark alley & blow your whiney brains all over the wall. "Where's my lawyer?"...Christ you're not that stupid, are you?

Tough as nails my ass. This totally smells like propoganda. Remember...the fog of war obliterates truth first. Don't raise a flag & wave it just because a biatchy British journalist managed to escape without getting her head chopped off.

2001-10-12 03:09:42 AM
BTW: shrink this damn thread. I had to go out in the front yard to read it all
2001-10-12 03:12:25 AM
Go flip another burger, wanker, assuming your old enough to "work".
2001-10-12 03:36:34 AM
Great, another tabloid hack can go back to doing what she's best at, reporting about Liz Hurley's breasts.

2001-10-12 03:53:50 AM
Stupid, but lucky. Ideally suited to the paper she works for.
2001-10-12 04:52:21 AM
The Daily Express is a right wing tabloid - and the self aggrandising headlines it's been knocking out about Yvonne Ridley on the back of this have been total sheeet.
2001-10-12 05:39:13 AM
I'm sorry, but I fail to see why such an ugly woman should generate such interest. I mean, she's 43, for gods' sake - I don't want to know about such things!
2001-10-12 06:04:31 AM
Ah, the usual vacuous comments from you trigger happy morons.

Nice to see someone keeps their word occasionally. I find it hard to believe they really did release her because she was a pain in the ass. After all, they could have just made like America and first cut out her tongue, then bumped her off. But don't let this little contradiction bother you to much or your heads might explode.
2001-10-12 07:35:00 AM
Spelling and Grammar check please.
2001-10-12 07:40:20 AM
Makes the Taliban seem almost human.......
2001-10-12 07:47:52 AM
Ozhead! How dare you! You'll upset all the warmongers now, and they'll start to cry...!
2001-10-12 07:59:07 AM
The Daily Express is owned by the same bloke who owns 'Asian Babes' magazine among other such high class publications.

Still at least its not the Daily Mail.
2001-10-12 08:02:58 AM
This is amusing, I don't think it's hero tag worthy.

Pretty damn cool too. Stupid Taliban.
2001-10-12 08:06:34 AM
They even freed her trust servant Patsy and gave her coconut halves back to her so she could ride home.
2001-10-12 08:07:31 AM
ARGGGHHHH! TRUSTY servant.... (note to self, try not to type stuff early in the morning)
2001-10-12 08:08:12 AM
Fb - perhaps, if you're the spelling flamer type, you need a maturity check.
But I doubt they're available in the USA at the moment.
2001-10-12 08:09:38 AM
It doesn't make sense. Why release her and not the aid-workers/missionaries? It doesn't make sense that they were worried about how the west views them, or if she would die.

One possible clue: she was in Kabul. The HQ of Taliban is actually in a southern city (dunno name). Perhaps the ruling power in Kabul sent her with a message or something.

Anyways, the pat story (taliban keeps word, they are "scared" of her, etc) just doesn't make sense. I wonder if we'll ever know the truth.
2001-10-12 08:19:07 AM
We had the conversation about the hero tag last week- it isn't the Texas flag (that has the white on top and red on bottom), it's the Chilean flag therefore proving that Fark continues to be international.
2001-10-12 08:25:47 AM
"Single parent". So while she's running about playing
reporter, who's watching the kid? Yeah, she's a real

Also, the term "yellow journalism" comes to mind. Aren't
they supposed to report the facts, not become a part of
them? Yep, a real hero.
2001-10-12 08:37:53 AM
Personally, I find the constant complaining about the overuse of the hero tag more annoying than the overuse of the tag itself. Does it matter that much? Chill out.

But I'll shut up now, before my complaining about the complaining about the overuse of the hero tag becomes more annoying than the complaining about the overuse of the hero tag.
2001-10-12 08:43:24 AM
BULLY!!! ;) I wanna read her article.

Biggups real journalism. She's a brit I think.

Some of you people on here remind me of the message board from Jay and Silent Bob.
