People who care about the superbowl half time show aren't real football fans and shouldn't be watching the superbowl.

Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones and The Who all sucked majorly. We don't want to see 70 year old men who can barely walk pretend to sing. We want to see football; put highlights or some stupid United Way commercial on at half time. Most people are up getting food and taking a piss at that time, anyway.

Then again, the majority of those at the Superbowl couldn't care less about the game and care more about just being seen there.

bale: Just came to say that Prince was the best halftime show of my lifetime. The wife barely even knows who Prince is, yet she was memorized by his huge, purple guitar behind the billowing sheet.

/was a really good show
//His cover of "Best of You" was awesome
///my wife loves huge, purple guitars apparently

I think she was "memorized" because she was stuck watching the game with you.

I_Am_Weasel: Fantastic!

They played half time at the CFL's Grey Cup. You won't regret this, well not entirely.

Who am I kidding. It'll be the worst Super Bowl half time show if recent memory.

You'd do better with the dog agility show. I wish that were an exaggeration. Maybe Justin Bie.... Can't finish that though.

Define recent memory? Tom Petty's show was boring and terrible. I also remember the artsy fartsy show about 10 years back too.

*goes looking on youtube*

Imagine this as your half time show. Narrarated by Edward James Olmos as a bonus.

Orgasmatron138: Van Halen should do it. Their last tour had a lot of energy, and everyone knows the songs.

As long as they have Cherone on vocals.

Foo Fighters, The Killers, RHCP, even Lenny Kravitz are all better choices for a good show.

BEP, Justin Bieber, Lady GaGa choices for ratings...

farking shiat, get a good band.

Sure I like the who but they are far too old. Bring on Metallica or something else that most football fans like, time to move on from 60s bands, and obviously hip hop hasn't worked out too well.

They forget that the vast majority of people who watch football are white. I dont think they want to see Black Eyed Peas and I think they are tired of the over the hill vietnam era bands.

They sucked when they did the Grey Cup halftime show a few years back.

2010-09-17 11:15:46 AM

VvonderJesus: The Black Eyed Peas? Jesus H. Christ, they wrote the worst song ever and they really really really really really suck live.

They did write the worst song ever. But that's not it. "My Humps" is clearly the worst song in the history of ever.

However, I do not believe that writing the worst song ever makes all of their songs bad.

Why wouldn't they pick a group that can actually perform live and not sound HORRIBLE? I saw the BEP on TV once doing something live and it was an ear assault...and I enjoy some of their recorded music.

let's get retarded.

/Fark Irony Police, that would be awesome (again)

Imma be, Imma be, Imma Imma Imma be watching something else during halftime, looks like.

2010-09-17 11:35:56 AM
This would have been great... if you're an idiot and living in 2007.

If the BEP get any type of resurgence from this, someone at the NFL has to die; we've juuuust about gotten rid of them, dammit. Not now. Not now. Not ever again.... argh!

How has this band become the official musical act for just about everything? I simply don't get it?

How many of your hipster 2010 indie bands can actually put on a stadium show? That's right, you didn't offer up any alternatives, just snark.

Welcome to Fark.

I could see the Silversun Pickups putting on a good, family friendly show- but nobody has heard of them.

Uakronkid: I misread that as The Black Keys and got excited for a second.

I purposely read that as Black Flag and am still laughing at the mental image.

What is with these organizers picking groups that are about 10 years past their prime? Were they cheaper to book?

MUSE would be a great half-time show.

As if the crowd wouldn't go insane for Hysteria, Stockholm Syndrome, Uprising and Knights of Cydonia.

Now that Pavement has decided to grace us with their live performances again, I wholeheartedly throw their name into the mix. I saw them live in Chicago this week-phenomenal show. You would never guess they take like 10 years off.

Maybe the Raconteurs? That would be sweet. Better yet-the White Stripes, the Raconteurs, and the Dead Weather. That would be even better.

2010-09-17 2:17:42 PM
Do people actually listen to BEP? I think the NFL is trying to get back on the hip-hop/R&B train that they jumped off of after Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake ruined their weekend. The problem is that they are now years behind the curve. They'll be playing musical catch-up for the next 10 years.

homarjr: MUSE would be a great half-time show.

Oh my dog, yes.

I would settle for Arcade Fire.

I'm just waiting for the day someone takes the suggestion I've been offering since I was about 13.

Funk Halftime Show. In the spirit of the old Parliament live shows, get a bunch of hot girls, some classic funk musicians (Bootsy, EW&F, George Clinton, e.t.c.), a world-class horn section and pyro, then sprinkle in a few of the newer acts that the kids like. Profit.

Have you seen them live? I love their music no doubt, but they're terrible live. Every concert I've seen them play, they look bored to tears. I get more energy from them coming through car radio speakers.

the puppy bowl goes on at halftime in this house. and before the kickoff its on pretty much too. and anyone who says they want to watch the pregame to see the new commercials is told to stfu or go home.

Eh, go nuts. Get Justin Beiber or Katy Perry or Lady Gaga or eff it, go all out and get a Christain boy band while you're at it. Get Hansen. Get the Wiggles or Raffy...I think that would be 100% appropriate. What a joke.

I hate EVERYTHING about the superbowl that does not involve the 4 quarters of the game itself.

Watched it in Spain once and it was awesome. No commericals or anything. Just football (and probably some terrible pop garbage with dancing at half)

I'd settle for Katy Perry. She's attractive so it makes up for the meh music.

Also I want to see Tool put on a half-time show. I'd be amused.

WTF is wrong with Hughie Lewis and the News?

2010-09-18 12:30:51 AM
I honestly don't mind the Black Eyed Peas being selected. Their (current) songwriting doesn't particularly impress me, mazel tov, but they're probably not going to bomb as bad as The Who did.

I'd still prefer MUSE. It's the perceived standard dialect of America, it's not particularly hated, not particularly vulgar, and due to their utterly generic single, Uprising, somewhat popular. I would love to see that show, hopefully performing Glorious (not happening, I know), but on a scale from 1 to 'Ever Going to Happen,' this scores a definite 1.

Which is potentially fortunate, as the inevitable FARK thread concerning their selection would be a good deal more acrimonious, as it wouldn't contain unanimous hating on the band selected.

Everyone here offering ultimate SB halftime show suggestions somehow keep mistyping "AC/DC" and "Motörhead". I know that's all it is.
