I got the double finger at my last exam, without request or warning. I'm 31. I had "lube butt" the rest of the day.

What the headline says: No evidence for routine prostate screening: study

What the article says:
1) No need to screen men OVER 75 for prostate disease
2) No reason to continue PSA screens in men over 60 with low PSA scores at that time.

Frickin' media.

I'll still have some lawyer trying to sue my ass off if any patient of mine gets prostate cancer and I haven't "digitally rectaled" and PSA'd him every year. It's not about the science, it's about who to blame when your number comes up.

I like that drink they give you which makes you have diarrhea every 10 minutes for 14 hours. Then they stick needles up your bum.

I have a checkup evey 3 months and this is one of the things they do. It makes sense - if you catch it early then its very easy to treat. I wish sometimes it was a female doctor but then you cant have everything ;)

Is there a need for you to act like a idiot? I dont get the doctor to check each time. The first time you go what you do is to get the doctor to show you how to examine yourself. Its a little strange at first but it becomes quite easy, basically you stick your fingers up your a__ and touch it! Laugh if you want but its better than the alternative.

Oh, is that how we're going to play it? Well yes, cancer is a big joke and I laugh at everyone who suffers from it. My mother has thyroid cancer and just had it removed a few weeks ago . She's still having all kinds of blood work done and the doctor has her on Synthroid and Levothyroxin and she's having crying jags and mood swings so I called her today and told her to man up and that Follicular cancer is for pussies so just walk it off man, just walk it off. We both laughed our asses off.

you should learn to self exam it is more pleasant and you can do it more often. It is really simple - if it feels soft its ok if it's hard like a nut or a joint then it might be a problem. Just wear gloves and use an oil to make it easier.

I'm aware of the procedure.
1) I get other things checked when I go to the doctor (twice yearly physical due to back and joint problems)
2) sometimes it's just better to leave these things to professionals...

As a 49 year old man who just got diagnosed with prostate cancer after my GP felt the PSA test was too high and recommended I get a biopsy, I think the title of this article is full of crap.

Basically, if you've got a family history of cancer (especially your father or in his family line), and are over 45, get the tests done regularly. My urologist says my cancer hasn't spread and surgery should completely remove it (scheduled for next month), and the new robotic surgery technique he uses greatly reduces the chance of post-surgical complications.

He also said if I wished I could wait 10-15 years because prostate cancer is rarely an aggressive type, but, well, I'll be 10-15 years older, recovery will be longer and there is a higher chance of complications, not to mention it could spread if he left it in there that long.

/get it checked

It is pretty common knowledge that prostate exams are only recommended for people ~50 and up or have a history of prostate cancer. You two are in your low 30s, so ... I have to wonder what the fark you're doing up there that ends with you needing to get examined by Dr. Coldfinger.

Please guys, get it checked. I know this is a rare case, but my dad was diagnosed with it at 52, and by the time they found it, it had spread through out most of his body and he died less than 2 months after the diagnosis. There was no history of it in our family, so he never thought it was too important to worry about. If they had caught it earlier, he would be still be with us.
