Welcome to Farktography!

This Week's Theme: "The Camera Made Me Do It"

Description
: We all take photos of stuff that is just..odd. Stuff that 'normal people' don't notice and certainly wouldn't photograph. We take these pics because photography is on the front-burner. And some of them just might work. This should be the place to show the stuff you shoot that no one sees otherwise.

We ask that before submitting your photos you read and adhere to the following submission rules, including but not limited to the following:

- Submissions must be photographs; screen captures do not count as photographs.
- You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not submit anyone else's photography as your own.
- You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit the same photo to another contest later.
- You may enter 3 photos in each contest as long as each photo is of a different composition.
- Please post each photo separately so they can be voted for individually.

Ideally, your photograph should be presented as taken, with as little alteration as possible either digitally in-camera or in your image editor during post-processing. No selectively applied digital effects! No removal or addition of image elements, no spot treatments, and no HDR images, please.

With few exceptions (red-eye removal, sensor or scan dust removal), modifications to the original photograph must be made evenly across the image.
See the rules for more information on acceptable modifications, or check in at the Farktography Forums.

Legal: All photographers submitting photos to this contest are the legal copyright holders for the photos submitted and the photos are not to be considered free for any other use without written consent from the submitting photographers.

To have your photo website listed on the Farktography home page, please send your Fark username and url to admin(at)farktography.net and we'll get you up forthwith. (also, indicate if you're willing to share your photographs for use as source images in PhotoShop contests)

- Drop by the Farktography Forum (for chatting, critique, techtalk and so on)

- Image hosting sites can be found here.

- Stats can be found here.

Amazing what details you can see when you upload your macro pics and look right into them. For instance I never realized barnacles' "mouths" have segments in them shaped like little puzzle pieces until I uploaded this photo.

Fire from 35,000 feet

Boy, did I get yelled at for taking that set of pictures....

...was flying to Oregon from Minnesota, looked out the window and saw a fire on the ground over Washington. Took the shots through the window, ended up capturing the atmosphere and curvature of the Earth along with it.

Really, I hate flying, and wouldn't have even looked out the window if I hadn't heard the camera calling my name to take a picture....

Unfortunately, I was just learning the lens, so I was worried more about focus than fov.

thanks! Alaska (and I'm guessing all high latitude type places) has amazing light that really makes a difference. With sunsets (new window) like these (new window)
it's hard not to get great color. But I've also found that taking photos in a lot lower light than you would think would work tends to result in really intense color if you get the exposure right. It was nearly dark in the foreground when I took the house photo, and it's only with flash that the house isn't all in shadow.
