Poor baby. I sure hope that reality show comes through for him. Maybe if it falls through he can go hook up with the Balloon Boy family on their next plot.

So if he had said "disease," why was he working and on board a flight?

Well no, but the Unions will try to make it look like it was not his fault

Hmm. I'm torn between responding with this, which I always find fascinating (Wiki):

The fraternal birth order effect is the strongest known predictor of sexual orientation.[2] According to several studies, each older brother increases a man's odds of developing a homosexual sexual orientation by 28% - 48%.[3][4][5][6] The fraternal birth order effect accounts for approximately one seventh of the prevalence of homosexuality in men.[7] There seems to be no effect on sexual orientation in women, and no effect related to the number of older sisters.[8][9]

...

Anthony Bogaert's work involving adoptees concludes that the effect is not due to being raised with older brothers, but is hypothesized to have something to do with changes induced in the mother's body when gestating a boy that affects subsequent sons. An in-utero maternal immune response has been hypothesized for this effect.[5][18][14][19] The effect is present regardless of whether or not the older brothers are raised in the same family environment with the boy. There is no effect when the number of older brothers is increased by adopted brothers or step brothers.

The fraternal birth order effect appears to interact with handedness, as the incidence of homosexuality correlated with an increase in older brothers is seen only in right-handed males.[9][20][21][22]

Bogaert (2006) replicated the fraternal birth order effect on male sexual orientation, in a sample including both biological siblings and adopted siblings.[2] Only the older biological brothers influenced sexual orientation; there was no effect of adopted siblings. Bogaert concluded that his finding strongly suggest a prenatal origin to the fraternal birth-order effect.

And this:

Your mamma was a genetic mutation

So I'll just do both.

The airline Saturday canned the flight attendant who slid into folk-hero status last month when he jumped down a plane's emergency chute with beers in hand after telling off passengers at Kennedy Airport.

I like the cut of this man's jib. Sounds what I'd do except it would be a 5th of vodka and a doobie in my mouth.

For shame, JetBlue, for shame.

2010-09-05 03:52:49 PM
It took them this long to decide to fire him? C'mon, the second he mouthed off to a passenger he should have been asked to leave the plane and fired.

Still don't understand why this guy is a hero. Granted, I was on a cruise and didn't get to see any MSM coverage as it happened, but why is he a hero?

Jet Blue is not Union (new window), so stop beefing about what the union is going to say. It is, however, nice to have someone to defend you, even if they have to go to ridiculous assertions to do it. Because when I get fed up I am liable to do just what he did.

Why are a lot of U.S. male flight attendants gay? I traveled on Czech Airlines and Air France, and the guys on there appeared to be straight flight attendants, or at least weren't flamboyant like the male attendants you see on American flights.

Interesting theory there. I work in musical theatre, so I know a few thousand gay men (incidentally, one of whom is a flight attendant for Jet Blue, and one who was a passenger on this plane). I haven't done a thorough analysis, but the vast majority that I can think of, whose sibling situation I know, are either only children or the eldest brother. Not to say it isn't true, but it wasn't exactly a "eureka" moment when I read that.

Better question. Why are female flight attendants on foreign airlines hot, while in the US they look like they've been ridden hard and put away wet?

JetBlue Flight Attendants are Not Unionized..therefore they can not fight a termination..they agree when they join JetBlue that they are to be employed "At Will" and JetBlue reserves the right to Fire any Flight Attendant for any reason at any time.

Special exemptions to hiring practices for some countries allow them to keep the hot ones and let the old crones go. Some are still like the old US airlines: too old - fired, get pregnant - fired, get married - fired, get fat - fired.... There was a good show on PBS about Singapore's airline. They had to change the law so they could only have the hot ones.

Much as I envy him for having the balls to do it, I gotta say he deserved what he got. And he knows it. As a manager, I'd certainly never hire him. That kind of behavior is unacceptable - even if it is something we all would like to do, and funny as hell.
