BS. Only 18% of the crowd thought he was a Muslim.

How do does subby know they are Tea Partiers?

BackAssward: How do does subby know they are Tea Partiers?

Who else besides Teabaggers attack someone for 'looking Muslim' and then get mad that people are going to think they're racists?

So people like that never existed before the tea party, and now the tea party has a monopoly on them? Subby made a retarded assumption and you look stupid for supporting him/her with a dumb post.

hat is what makes him look muslim, not blackness.
Muslim is not a race.

If you assumed a guy dressed like this did drugs, you wouldn't be a racist.

Only teabaggers make retarded assumptions. Subby is a teabagger!

What about these guys?

At one point, a portion of the crowd menacingly surrounded two Egyptian men who were speaking Arabic and were thought to be Muslims.

"Go home," several shouted from the crowd.

"Get out," others shouted.

In fact, the two men - Joseph Nassralla and Karam El Masry - were not Muslims at all. They turned out to be Egyptian Coptic Christians who work for a California-based Christian satellite TV station called "The Way." Both said they had come to protest the mosque.

"I'm a Christian," Nassralla shouted to the crowd, his eyes bulging and beads of sweat rolling down his face.

But it was no use. The protesters had become so angry at what they thought were Muslims that New York City police officers had to rush in and pull Nassralla and El Masry to safety.

To be fair, we don't have confirmation on whether or not a hat was involved.

Are all New Yorkers opposed to this mosque tea party members? Because that would mean a lot of tea.

How about people right after 9/11, well before there were any Teabaggers? We had some Sikhs attacked and badly beaten in Oregon shortly after 9/11 because some ignorant, bigoted assholes thought they were Muslims.

It's possible. And maybe they're still in prison.

The crowd is very large (depressingly so, to me), but not bigger than the first tea party protest City Hall Park saw April 15th 2 years ago when the group was gearing up.

I'm farking disheartened there are so many gormless farkwits in this city, though. I mean, Jesus...

serial_crusher: hat is what makes him look muslim, not blackness.

PROTIP: Some people, many of whome are African American, like to wear skullcaps.

Maybe it's just because I'm Jewish, but I can't help but feel incredibly uncomfortable seeing any political group raise "awareness" of the objectionable nature of a religion consisting of millions in this country, to the point that groups of hundreds and thousands come out to vocally oppose the presence of that religion in major cities.

Just... I dunno, something about it makes me feel a little bit worried. A little unsure of these groups' perspectives, reasoning abilities, and goals.

/Double-secret bank shot Godwin?
//Seriously, it's not simply this protest at this site, but the growing rumbling across the country and the increasing fervor of blatant, vitriolic anti-Muslim rhetoric.

Damned farking Teabaggers.

Bloody William: groups of hundreds and thousands come out to vocally oppose the presence of that religion in major cities.

That's not even close to being the case. This is about that location. Don't let facts or important details get in the way of a good Godwin though.

BTW, if Americans do start throwing muslims into camps, will Obama count that as "jobs created or saved"?

2010-08-23 04:58:18 AM
MeinRS6: This is about that location.

So why aren't they complaining about the mosques in the area and the already existing community center?

2010-08-23 04:59:08 AM
I wonder how many of those protesters live in Manhattan...

Lumpmoose: To be fair, we don't have confirmation on whether or not a hat was involved.

The video clearly shows that the man was indeed wearing a hat. That hat may very well have been a muslim hat or a muslim looking hat. It also might have been any other kind of hat. The point is that this man was going to work at ground zero while wearing a hat. He did this knowing that a mosque or something similar to a mosque may or may not be built 4 blocks away. What the hell was this guy thinking? Clearly hats should be banned to prevent this kind of problem in the future. Only then will we be safe from the terrorists.

2010-08-23 05:19:06 AM

MeinRS6: BTW, if Americans do start throwing muslims into camps, will Obama count that as "jobs created or saved"?

If they staff them with people layed off from state run prison due to them being converted to privately run prisons, then it would be jobs saved.

So are the protests against the Mosque in TN about location too? What about the people in opposition to the Mosque in California?

Man gets generalized based upon superficial qualities as an enemy.
Mob of angry people holding nonsensical, anger-inducing signs.
Catchy chants to charge up anger.

I don't think they realize how alike they are to the type of people they protest. They've gone viral, attacking the very type of "moderate" (In American terminology, "moderate" equals rabidly pro-American agenda, while "extreme" equals "disagrees with us at any point") Muslims they want.

2010-08-23 06:47:58 AM
i suggest at least a 3 state radius be declared a no hat zone. this is hallowed, hatless ground.

Drudge wears that hat. Hmmm....

I have nothing against hats, but I dont think its appropriate to wear a hat in this particular location. He should respect the sensitive nature of the area and wear his hat elsewhere.
