Actually the guy has some legal footing here - considering the area and waters he was sailing in... he should just sue the whale for breach of contract...

So did the whale ask his buddies to hold his beer?

It's just, I'm a pilot, and I was speeding to get to the airport. Now, you're right, and I should have been driving more carefully, but I'm not a killer! If you give me this ticket, I'll be blue all week.

Sure the Orcas are cute and get the Free Willy movies, I'll show you that a mammal with shiat stuck to his skin can do anything that overgrown dolphin can do....

Today the pair were thankful that they were aboard a steel-hulled training yacht, which didn't suffer any structural damage. A fibreglass vessel would have been destroyed.

First thing I thought of. A fiberglass boat would have been in splinters immediately on impact.

From Wikipedia:
"One behavior unique to the Southern Right Whale, known as sailing..."

Or I'm thinking they were lucky it was a Right Whale--a male Sperm Whale would have swamped them.

Ha, I've been to the town mentioned in this article- it's rather famous for the whale migrations as you can see them from the shore. Which is good because I'm not sure if I'd hop into a yacht in the bay there anytime soon after seeing that picture.

Yours is better.

No one got hurt either. That would have been an amazing experience, experiencing something that titanic and majestic and watching it make mincemeat of a steel mast right in front of your eyes. Zowee!

If I were on the boat I definately would have had a redundant poop deck, I'll tell you what.
