Here to say Falling Water is the most amazing building ever.

Hope it doesn't fall in. The engineers added steel without telling Wright, and it's still not enough.

Why is it that so few comparisons of world's tallest structures include the CN Tower? It's pretty farking tall, you know.

It's good they didn't build this. Wright's buildings have a habit of falling down.

Interesting, where is the only skyscraper of Wright's design?

That's what happens when you try to only use 1/2 the amount of structure that should be there.

/His interns would produce two sets of Construction Drawings behind his back. First, they would get shown to him for his "final approval", then they would work the rest of the night to change the drawings to increase the structure/rebar/slab depth before they were sent off in the morning.

It is an interesting but little known fact that Wright never got around to designing a skyscraper.

Surprisingly, Frank Lloyd Wright was, in fact, a skyscraper.

Looks like the Burj Dubai. Wonder if his was the inspiration or if really tall buildings just all look like that. Except for the termite mound super-building.

So long, Frank Lloyd Wright.
I can't believe your song is gone so soon.
I barely learned the tune
So soon
So soon.

I'll remember Frank Lloyd Wright.
All of the nights we'd harmonize till dawn.
I never laughed so long
So long
So long.

CHORUS
Architects may come and
Architects may go and
Never change your point of view.
When I run dry
I stop awhile and think of you

So long, Frank Lloyd Wright
All of the nights we'd harmonize till dawn.
I never laughed so long
So long
So long.

Don't be silly. He never designed anything like that.

I think Fark hiccuped a duplicate of Bartlesville, Oklahoma.

Interesting tidbit:
The Sears Tower has higher USABLE space than the Petronas Towers. Petronas is "taller" because they count the decorative spires.

Today, eggs are being dropped from the only skyscraper of Wright's design.

Falling Water is a damp, cold unlivable space. Water condenses on the interior surfaces continuously and it take a full time staff to keep it from turning into a giant mildew experiment.
///Wright was a brilliant designer with one enormous fatal flaw. He never took into account that people would actually have to live in and use his creations. He thought that the spaces should re-make the humans inside and not the other way around.

2010-07-10 4:25:16 PM
And now no building that tall will ever be built.

They took it apart and added more steel a few years ago. What no one mentions during the reconstruction process is that Wright designed the house as a summer retreat for a family of three, not for the tens of thousands of visitors it sees every year.

I'd argue that the Johnson Research Tower is also a skyscraper. And Price Tower is simply the only one of his designs that got built; there are plans for a number of skyscrapers, including one next to St Mark's in Greenwich Village and another on a bluff overlooking Pittsburgh (that one has come close to being built a number of times).

Interestingly, Frank Lloyd Wright also designed windshield scrapers.

Mr. Potatoass: Interestingly, Frank Lloyd Wright also designed windshield scrapers.

Yeah, but they matched the garages he designed. If you park the car somewhere else, you can't use the Wright scraper to get ice off of it. From a design standpoint.

drawing a building is one thing. Drawing a building that someone can actually build and has a design that has improvements over past design is another.

Making a design that is challenging for someone to actually build should mean you are a shiat architect not a great architect.

So Frank Lloyd Wright was the Apple of his day?

This sentence, important for so many reasons, is perhaps most remarkable for being an anagram of "Fark: the only site Gregl, Britain's tiny red penis ogre, syncs with, loves, kills."

Here's a nice, shiny THIS for you. As nice as his creations are to look at, they have a reputation for being a nightmare to maintain.

Wait, he made a house modeled after internal organs? I gotta see this place. Link please.

Corvus: Making a design that is challenging for someone to actually build should mean you are a shiat architect not a great architect.

That's not true at all. Frank Gehry's buildings are fiendishly difficult to draw, but very easy to build because computer rendering allows Gehry's designs to be given directly to the fabricating machines.
