There are other places to be married. The anti-theists pour in and start slamming religion and/or Catholics in 4....3....2....
2003-06-01 12:01:17 PM
Pretty much, Dandamanfl. Honestly though, one of the ideas of the Catholic Church is that you're supposed to have kids. Granted this isn't as controversial as abortion, but it's still Catholic dogma. The Church has no obligation to perform a ceremony for people who do not follow the precepts of the Church.
2003-06-01 12:44:32 PM
The Catholic church always tends to have a knack for making the news. I think this is kinda stupid, but hey, no one made them be Catholic.

anti-theists = atheist

The Catholic Church holds that the purpose of marriage is to procreate and to further develop love between the spouses, pretty much the same qualifications placed on sex. If the couple refuses to have children, then they are trying to get a sacrament without fulfilling the qualifications for it.

The justification for the couple not wanting to have children does carry weight. What the article excludes is their attitude towards adoption. I'm pretty sure the Catholic Church will perform marriages if the couple is sterile but willing to adopt. This couple is not sterile, but if they were willing to adopt to make up for having no biological children, it appears to me that the priest would be in the wrong. However, I get the feeling from the article that the couple didn't want that either.

anti-theists = atheist

No, I disagree. Athiest just believe there is no god, anti-theists are rabid demagogues who revel in a deep-seated hatred of religion. They present themselves as somehow superior while they have only their own beliefs amd faith to support this and no absolute proof.

Theist = pot
anti-theist = kettle

Choose another religion.

Sucks to be you when you get all the way to the threshold of matrimony before you realize you've got the wrong religion. Catholicism is what it is. This isn't the church's problem. This couple just isn't fully Catholic.

Can't be a buddhist and not accept the 4 Noble Truths. Can't be a Catholic and not want to have kids.

2003-06-01 03:01:46 PM
Now there's a real winner religion.

Luckily there are thousands of others to choose from.

MR. BLACKITT: Look at them, bloody Catholics. Filling the bloody world up with bloody people they can't afford to bloody feed.

MRS. BLACKITT: What are we dear?

MR. BLACKITT: Protestant, and fiercely proud of it...

MRS. BLACKITT: Why do they have so many children...?

MR. BLACKITT: Because every time they have sexual intercourse they have to have a baby.

MRS. BLACKITT: But it's the same with us, Harry.

MR. BLACKITT: What d'you mean...?

MRS. BLACKITT: Well I mean we've got two children and we've had sexual intercourse twice.

2003-06-01 03:02:42 PM
Hmm, does this mean that the male catholic rulers that were recently in the news for their liking of little boys are going to be joining us on the first class ride to hell? That means there will be all those catholic nuns looking to atone for their sins for not procreating too. Looks like it might be a fun time for us all in the afterlife :-)

/one ticket please
2003-06-01 03:02:58 PM
yes, choose another religion.

or, jump off a cliff and bequeath all your funds and possessions to me.
2003-06-01 03:03:14 PM
Gotta breed to keep the mental illness alive. If they relied on people FINDING religion later in life, there's no way most major religions would've lasted as long as they have. Gotta get to the kids before they posess common sense. Drill that fear of god right in there so they can't even develop normally.
2003-06-01 03:03:54 PM
It is wrong in the eyes of the Lord to spill your seed upon the ground, as Onan did, rather that impregnate any and every women you can.

As God thy Lord comandeth; Go Forth and Multiply, Drink of the fermented hops, and Wine, the blood of my Son, eat of the Cheetos, watcheth the sporting games, "Know" thy fairest boobies, then thou wouldst thou makest a sandwich, and take a nap."

Repent, Sinners! Go forth, multiply, fill the land to its bursting point with humanity, and we'll sort out the details like food, housing and jobs later on...
2003-06-01 03:07:50 PM
It's BULLSHIAT. We have too many farking kids without good parents already. I say if peeps wanna never have kids, MORE POWER TO EM!
2003-06-01 03:08:32 PM
perhaps it's time to do the only sensible thing left: outlaw Catholicism. It's an evil manipulative religion, bent only on controlling the lives of its parishoners. It's archaeic and unrepentant for its behaviours. It's apologetic and surreptitious about the lawbreakers in its hierarchy. It seeks nothing than the betterment of itself as an entity, under the lie that they are trying to advance the human race closer to god and godliness.

It's time for the Catholic Church to go. Simple as that.

You mean Ivanhoe, Ontario? Cause i live pretty close to there and it makes sense!
2003-06-01 03:09:58 PM
as our priest says to us college kids, "your spouse doesn't have to be catholic...just your kids"
2003-06-01 03:10:58 PM
Of course the Church wants people to have kids...They need altarboys....Lots of altarboys. And little girls for the "straight" priests.
2003-06-01 03:12:20 PM
perhaps it's time to do the only sensible thing left: outlaw Catholicism.

Let's outlaw islam too. Terrorists and all that...

Wait, let's just practice the entire 'freedom of religion' thing.

northventricle, isn't that the whole idea of ANY institution?

Actually, the girls are for the nuns

When couples don't want to have children only outlaws will have Catholicism, or something.
2003-06-01 03:15:01 PM
Catholics are the #1 prime causes of the bastardization of the word of Jesus. Not the modern catholics, mindja, but the old british ones who re-interpreted the Bible to strike fear in the populous and further the agenda of the church (control the people and scare them from the pagan ways).

aaagh - fook the bastrids. If people are stupid enough to join the church of sheep, then they deserve to be called sheep and vote republican (I had to, sorry).

Oh yeah, and for gods sake, have sex. God doesn't mind. Not if he is a "unconditional loving" god, because to not like us having sex would be a condition, now wouldn't it? (please don't answer because I am a Buddhist and dont really care to listen to the Sheepaganda)
2003-06-01 03:15:55 PM
Interceptor1 No, Priests and Nuns aren't married and are therefore not supposed to be fruitful and multiply.

I_Can't_believe_It's_Not_Bevets! Onan's sin wasn't spilling his seed upon the ground. His sin was that he wouldn't get his dead brother's wife pregnant. It was part of the law that if your brother died before having children then you were to go get it on with his wife so that his line would proceed. The children would then be considered your brother's. Onan decided to have sex with his brother's wife but instead of trying to impregnate her he used the tried and true pull out birth control. God was plenty pissed about this and struck him down. For some reason many people manage to get the impression that god is anti-masturbation from this story.

/hopes his brother marries a hottie.

Wow.. not one comment about the French? Farking Amazing.. I thought that would be #1.

Looks like Dandaman enjoys spewing the creation science view of atheism pretty much verbatim.

Did you learn the term "anti-theist" on a web site somewhere? It makes almost as much sense as "creation science".
2003-06-01 03:17:57 PM
The Catholic religion is going the same way as the dinosaurs did - extinction.
2003-06-01 03:18:03 PM
Argh_dammit: If you dismiss all contrary beliefs as 'sheepaganda', then you'll never learn.
2003-06-01 03:18:19 PM
if you are going to ignore Catholic teaching about having kids, what is so hard about lying to the priest? "sure, we plan on having kids....suuuure..."
2003-06-01 03:20:00 PM

There are other churches, there are other parishes, there are other courthouses, hell, there is even elvis.
2003-06-01 03:20:31 PM
What about on her face?

then you just need more Catholic sex education, as you are obviously doing it wrong...
2003-06-01 03:20:47 PM
Are post-menopausal/sterile women allowed to have Catholic weddings?

Or do they still burn them at the stake?
2003-06-01 03:21:00 PM
GCD: The sooner it gets there, the better off the world will be.

(I could argue and debate with the rest of you who challenge bits of what I said before...or who see fit just to call names...but I don't see it as meaningful debate. I'm merely expressing my opinion, another wildly protected freedom. You debate it all you want. My opinion isn't going to change because of you.)
2003-06-01 03:22:04 PM
I'm not going to bash Catholics, I'm not going to bash religion, and I'm not going to bash clergy.

However, this damned breeding has got to stop! Seriously, does the world truly need more of your line? Look at yourself and think "Would I be pleased if everyone I had to deal with in this world was only as good as myself or worse?"

I'm pretty sure Darwin and Jesus are sharing a bottle of vodka and crying over humanity about now.
2003-06-01 03:23:01 PM
What about on her face?

As long as it isn't your dead brother's wife go for it.
2003-06-01 03:23:05 PM

Unfortunately most, if not all organized religions fall under your criteria...

just not gonna happen

2003-06-01 03:25:19 PM
NorthVentricle, I couldn't agree with you more.

The best part is - I'm Catholic myself.

I don't even want to get started on this thing.
2003-06-01 03:25:23 PM

gotta love it - there are enough kids that need homes anyway...
2003-06-01 03:25:37 PM
Catholic Church won't marry that French couple?

Oh, how tragic!!!!! Now they'll have to drop out of the Church, tell the Pope to fark off, stop throwing their money into the collection basket, learn to think for themselves, and spend their Sunday mornings having wild, non-procreative sex instead of suffering through a Church mass.

Seriously, folks, whenever a Catholic witch doctor refuses to marry a couple, or some Protestant church excludes homosexuals (and their disposable income), they're actually helping the cause of freethought. "What? I'm not good enough to give my money to you or be brainwashed by your doctrines? Boo, hoo, guess I'll have to free myself from religion. Oh, the humanity!"
2003-06-01 03:25:59 PM
Of course! It's the Pope's show. He makes the rules. If you don't like them (and you shouldn't) then dump the Roman Catholic Church. Millions of us have and we are the better for it. And I speak as a man of the cloth.

Sorry no, I have no knowledge of the "creation science" of which you mutter. My web time is occupied by fark, isketch, and assorted porn.

Ahh, you've got to love organized religion. It seems more an attack on using birth control (which they would probably have to use, unless they can use mind control on the sperm) than about them not wanting have kids. It's so kind of the church to want to spread STD's and overpopulate the world.
