"I'm just saying, it could have been worse: I could have been an astronaut."
"You could not have been an astronaut."
"I would have been a great astronaut."
"You're afraid of heights, speed, fire, and small enclosed spaces."

How did you notice that this was a repeat from two and a half years ago?

Okay, haven't even watched the video yet as I was too distracted by this ad:

Futurama has ruined that phrase for me. You didn't even have to include "everyone" for the rest of your post to be in the Professor's voice.

My guess would be they inspect the lines for any cracks/breaks and clean off any corrosion on or around the insulators. and chase squirrels/birds.

I've seen a different video where he's replacing the cable spreaders that keeps the lines from wrapping around each other. Other than that, you got me. Not really familiar with that high of voltage.

2010-06-27 4:58:24 PM
He also clipped on a small tool bag at the beginning.

Yeah, seems like a specialty within the electrician field

I would not enjoy watching that.

I didn't watch this particular link all the way through but a few years ago national geographic did a show on a crew in North Florida and Georgia that did this .
They replace /repair insulators and spacers on the lines .

A lot of times they just scrape burnt up stuff off the lines because it acts as insulators and causes the line to overheat. There was another video of this guy doing just that -- carbonized uniforms, bones, and I think even a rotor mast.

The faraday cage bit not really a very concise explanation. The basic principle is that potential differences cause current (which kills, not voltage) to flow, not just potential itself which is all relative.

I said the same thing when I first saw this video years ago. ;)

Maybe you should make your own voiceover then, Professor Science.

And then I'll watch it and remark in the thread about how it's a repeat and then the circle of Fark will be complete and little Farks will be born and held up into the bright sun.
