Don't worry, they will put up a reward for information about it's location. At some point one of their friends or neighbors will need money for some meth and turn them in.

"We believe that God can be everywhere and that a stone can represent God," Sengupta said.

If God can be anywhere, can't he be in some other random rock? There are plenty of aluminosilicate aggregates to go around.

Besides, you're Hindu. If someone runs off with one of your gods, you've still got three million others. It's not like you'd miss one.

Our kupuna told us it was time to take them home, and we did.

I see. And how long have you been hearing these voices? Have you sought professional help?

Basically every religion believes that their god created the whole of existence. Why do they believe that any particular rock, city, or symbol would be any more or less important to their god than any other? Logical fallacies abound.

Every religion is false and every person who purports to know the true religion is a liar whether they believe it or not.

The one thing that humans are best at is manipulation, especially when it comes to manipulating other people. How long will we allow these lies to be told under the auspices of freedom? We allow them to tell children these things knowing full well that children don't have the knowledge and experience required to judge them for what they are.

Save the world. Even convenient lies must be called out for what they are.

The worshippers in question are Shaivites. They believe Shiva is God in a very similar sense that the Abrahamic religions believe in Jesus, Allah, Yahweh, etc. They wont worship any of the millions of demigods instead of Shiva, but they might offer worship to some demigods when appropriate once proper worship is given to Shiva.

This is Fark. Your facts, tolerance and understanding are not welcome here.

Seriously, though, is Hinduism polytheistic or is it actually pantheistic, where all the various gods and things are all aspects of The One or something?

Yes, round them up. Put them in camps. Reeducate those religious bastards. They have had ENOUGH freedom. Take their kids, teach them the TRUTH as only we know it. If the parents don't give up their lying religious ways then BURN THEM AT THE STAKE. This is the price of telling lies about skywizards and zombie carpenters. Crusades! Inquisition! They are all complicit in the crimes of religion. Either by action or by THOUGHT! They must be punished.

In Hawaii, we take our rocks very seriously. At least it wasn't fragile, historical remains stolen from the Bishop Museum and left to rot in a wet cave this time.

I personally feel much safer with dangerously stupid people like that arguing over a rock rather than learning how to fly airplanes into buildings.

Though yeah, stories like this make me want to put the damned thing in an industrial crusher and sell each moron their own personal packet of holy gravel.

Whether you mean that sarcastically or not - "Turnabout is fair play". Those of us who don't go on psychosis-inspired killing sprees (or in this case, "merely" vandalism and theft) grow increasingly tired of humoring those who do. If you can't control your own, society needs to do it for you.

Hinduism is vast. So you'd have to examine all four major sects (Vaishnavism, Shaivism, Shaktiism, and Smartaism) to have a better understanding. Vaishnavism and Shaivism are certainly monotheistic. In Vaishnavism, Krishna, or Vishnu (depending on which sampradaya of Vaishnavism) is "The One". In Shaivism, Shiva is "The One". The other "gods", I would rather use the term "demigods", they are organs of "The One". They are all fulfilling tasks to maintain the universe.

Shaktiism believes in the Divine Mother, and Smartaism believes that God is ultimately impersonal. Versus, say, Vaishnavism for instance which believes God's impersonal form is ultimately subservient to His personal form.

In addendum, this isn't the first time that the stone relic of another religion was perceived to be a Shiva Lingam. There are more than a few Shaivites who believe that the Black Stone within the Kaaba of Mecca (The Muslim Holy Site) is a Shiva Lingam. Of course, I've never heard of any Shaivites attempting to go to Saudi Arabia to worship it!
