Ah, it's implicity humble, a rare, yet good, thing these days

HTML, you are not my friend.
2003-05-27 02:43:57 PM
It's first again.
They've done a massive major overhaul of their algorithm, and the results are unstable (and have been for a while).

Life sucks...
2003-05-27 02:47:43 PM
maybe they realize its stupid to search for a search engine using one
2003-05-27 03:02:25 PM
leave it up to farkers to go to a search engine and search for "search engines"... reminds me of homer.."Operator, gimme the number for 911!"
2003-05-27 04:15:30 PM
Google has more than one web server, uh, serving up the results so each farker will get different results. I think right now they are doing the "google dance," and all the different machines are pulling from different data and/or older algorithms.
2003-05-27 04:16:02 PM
Hey! Someone here understands the concept of irony! You've restored my faith in Farkers.
2003-05-27 04:16:13 PM
Spider monkeys ate my brain.
2003-05-27 04:16:20 PM
That's one of the greatest things about google.. it's own modesty
2003-05-27 04:16:42 PM
Where's AstaLavista?????
2003-05-27 04:18:06 PM
oh! yey! just in time for a good "is this really irony?" debate. woopie.
2003-05-27 04:18:17 PM
Nice use of irony. Farkers are getting better and better.

There's nothing in the world quite like a woman who says "algorithm".

GIS for 'Search Engine'

Don't bother calling 911 anymore here is the real number.... 912
2003-05-27 04:26:00 PM
Remember HotBot?
2003-05-27 04:28:54 PM
Try again:

Google is gay
2003-05-27 04:29:12 PM
but if you click the "directory" listing on that search they come up as #1

I like the fact that Google doesn't hack their engine to produce things they want the customer to see (think MSN)

Hell, you could do a search for Linux on MSN and I swear they would find a way to make a M$ related site come up first :P

(and flame war ppl, i'm not anti-microsoft, just anti MSN)
2003-05-27 04:30:26 PM
Sinatra"it's implicity humble"

More like stealthfully low key. The biggest kid on the block inevitably attracts countless asshats that want to bring them down a peg for daring to be successful. Rating ones self above others in a search would be good evidence for a lawyer to present in an anti-trust trial.

Oh yeah, and there's mind control chemicals in contrails.
2003-05-27 04:31:17 PM
Superc, that GIS picture for 'search engine' cracks me for some reason if I look at it and imagine that guy saying search engine.
2003-05-27 04:31:34 PM

Searching for 'Linux' on MSN

MSN isn't first, Amazon is.
However, a MSN site is second... who'd a thunk it?
2003-05-27 04:32:03 PM
Google is gothy.
2003-05-27 04:33:07 PM
2003-05-27 04:34:24 PM

OMFG, "Alternatives to Linux" a link to a Microsoft article comes up third. Those sons of biatches.
2003-05-27 04:37:42 PM
If you type in "Best Search Engine", you get Google.
Go figure...
2003-05-27 04:38:31 PM
"leave it up to farkers to go to a search engine and search for "search engines"... reminds me of homer.."Operator, gimme the number for 911!""

For some reason, that reminded me of some showI watched over the weekend, where they were making fun of quiz shows. One of the questions was "When did the war of 1812 take place ?"

2003-05-27 04:39:50 PM
i just tried that linux search in msn, the first result was to purchase linux books from amazon (msn advertiser) and the other two of the top three were both microsoft sites... really funny, i never thought about it before
2003-05-27 04:41:23 PM
Ok...back to the subject. I guess. If I have to.

GIS for "Fark articles on google". I think it's a hint.

They tried but all they could do was #3
#3 Alternatives to Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP

2003-05-27 04:42:48 PM
If a search engine using predetermined metrics for ranking the order of listing the results of a search coming up with Altavista first is ironic, then slap my ass and call me alanis.
2003-05-27 04:43:39 PM

I got this...

I used to get so pissed off when Jeeves wouldn't answer any of my more meaningful questions.
2003-05-27 04:43:56 PM
I wonder where they rank GooGirl.com? (SFW, uless you WANT to be naughty)
2003-05-27 04:46:00 PM
MeconiumMilkshake I doubt the picture on the front of their search engine is safe for most people's work...
2003-05-27 04:46:07 PM
if you type search engine into msn's s.e. you dont even get google in the top 15 (i didnt check further) but msn comes up first...

i am so upset, i could just sigh for a second

2003-05-27 04:46:19 PM
Popfreak was right.

#1 is Amazon's microsoft eshop
#2 is Tech.Microsoft.com
2003-05-27 04:46:30 PM
hey ronald_jeremy ...watch out for astalavista.. they are tacking on xxx-toolbar now to their search engine and if you dont remove it right (adaware and spybot dont always work) it can eat you computer trying to rehide itself..
2003-05-27 04:46:38 PM
you think it might have something to do with the fact that google uses referring links to rate atleast partially. Google has become a verb, people no longer search, they 'google it' so why would one expect to link google as a mere search engine.
2003-05-27 04:47:37 PM
2003-05-27 04:47:43 PM
One of the questions was "When did the war of 1812 take place ?"

wasn't that in a foxtrot strip?
2003-05-27 04:48:30 PM

astalavista Altavista is considered a search engine...(hush hush :))

2003-05-27 04:50:06 PM
still no cure for cancer

No but you could get a screensaver that looks for cancer cures, works pretty much like that seti thing. www.grid.org

Hey Skinink:

Was it related to the old SNL "Jeopardy" sketch which included answers (questions???) such as "threeve" and "suck it, Trebek"???
2003-05-27 04:56:41 PM
Nice Easter Egg:
Go to AskJeeves.com . Ask "Is Jeeves gay ?"
Then the results will show this:

Do you want to know::
Is Jeeves Gay ? (with a button next to it that says ask)
Press the Ask button, see the results.

2003-05-27 04:56:52 PM
Skinink- Are you thinking of "Celebrity Jeopardy?"
2003-05-27 04:57:14 PM
If you type www.gogole.com you land on google
2003-05-27 04:59:09 PM
Uhm, This link is wrong,

Google search 'BEST SEARCH ENGINE' and Google is #1
2003-05-27 04:59:10 PM
Skinink actually, I prefer the second result...

"How do I know if I am gay?" That links to a document on the subject.
2003-05-27 04:59:16 PM
