Because thinking the price of gas is subject to supply and demand is bullshiat?

a private industry's failure to observe safety regulations and lack of an emergency plan means this is clearly Obama's Hurricane Katrina, except that Bush in no way mishandled Katrina, but seriously, this is Obama's Hurricane Katrina.

But Bush did not bungle the response to Hurricane Katrina. But for real though, this is Obama's Hurricane Katrina.

TFA: ...with 15,800 barrels siphoned to a ship at the surface on Wednesday.

I am in awe that we aren't raising more of a stink over this number. It's three times the number BP claimed was flowing out of the well, and yet they now say it's only about 60% of the total. Those kinds of numbers aren't "estimates"; they're "bullshiat". Somebody just made up a number and went with it.

DOUBLE HEADLINE FAIL.

It's 1.3 million to 1.5 million barrels TOTA, not per day.

Both the Fark headline and the headline of the article are completely wrong.

Article Headline: "Study: Well most likely spewing more than 1M gallons of oil a day"

First pararaph of the article: "The Deepwater Horizon well has most likely spewed 25,000 to 30,000 barrels of oil a day"

georgeyporgey: Let's get it out of the way now. "I blame Bush"

Well he DID castrate the regulations to the point where it was perfectly legalish for BP to cut corners for the sake of saving a few bucks, and he hired regulators who were literally sleeping with the oil barons.

The video feeds are amazing. This (new window) is a great page that shows a screen-cap of each of the 14 ROVs that is updated once per minute. If you click on any cap, it gives you the live stream from that ROV.

Also, there's a decent on-going discussion about the live-feeds here: Doomers (new window)

And really good in-depth information here: The Oil Drum (new window)

Generally, the info on those pages makes its way to the mainstream media bout 24-48 hours later.

Headline: Well most likely spewing more than 1M gallons of oil a day
TFA: Deepwater Horizon well has most likely spewed 25,000 to 30,000 barrels of oil a day
TFA: The new estimate suggests that, if the flow has been more or less consistent since the April 20 blowout, approximately 1.3 million to 1.5 million barrels

30,000 barrels is 930,000 gallons. Pretty close to a million if you ask me.

Barrel != Gallon. Learn to read.

Of course the media needs to DIA for conviniently switching units depending on what message they want to send. Reporting the facts without too much bias? God forbid.

They did recently claim that the failed top kill actually cleaned the inside and is allowing more oil to flow, and combined with a much less restricted flow since they cut the pipe, is where you get the amount of barrels per day.

How much methane was flowing though as well? It's not always oil spilling out.

did i read something incorrectly? isn't 25,000 barrels equal to about a million gallons? checked just now and it's 42 gallons per barrel.

---------------------------------------------

It's absolutely impossible to figure it out. When there's absolutely zero light and someone BLACK is pouring out... all you can really do is guess.

The media has been its usual ZOMG WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE and always prints the worst-case scenarios while BP has been purposefully saying the best-case scenarios.

Both sides are dickwads and it's pissing me off. The reality is somewhere in the middle.
