Anyone who can afford to own (and gas) a Lincoln Navigator can afford a goddamn babysitter. Adopt the kid out tomorrow -- he's young enough that he won't really remember her.

2010-05-31 2:37:43 PM
A TV news reporter asked her why she left her child in the car and she said "I guess I have mental problems" and also said that the child doesn't have a father. Poor kid; he's been placed in foster care temporarily.

More details (new window)

85 degrees? Pfft. Let me know when it's 140, like here.

Poor baby had soiled himself and was drinking spoilt milk :(

*eye twitches*

85 degrees? Meh.

2010-05-31 3:58:12 PM
Why indeed? Given her parenting skills it's clear that either he gets cooked in the car or dies drinking bleach.

Stories like this make me stabby and punchy to breeders.

But it still doesn't make me want to have a kid.

/Hubby's tutored.

That kid's better off dead; he hasn't begun to see the real abuse yet.

/no apologies

What IS the big deal, I mean it's not like he could have died of dehydration or heat stroke...oh, right.

2010-05-31 4:00:06 PM

Fark: Her response to police: "Why is this such a big deal?"

"Okay, ma'am - it's your turn in the box car."

2010-05-31 4:00:24 PM
85 degree car?

Why does that even matter? I mean, leaving the kid in a car when you go into a casino stands alone as bullshiat. If the car had been over 100 degrees, that may be another layer on the story... but 85?

2010-05-31 4:00:36 PM
Breaks my heart. There are good couples that can't have children and adoption is such a huge pain and joke in this country yet people like that are allowed to spawn as many as they want.

2010-05-31 4:01:22 PM
Oh, and this kind of behavior was par for the course 40 years ago in many parts of this country...

mom also doesn't know that the odds always favor the House.

how else do you think they paid for those fancy casinos.

gambling is a scourge on this Nation. it drains the folks who can't afford it and enriches the folks who own the casinos.

sounds like business as usual in the USA.

Dallymo's link: She also told officers the child did not have a father.

Jesus?

Gambling and mega-churches are both a way to tax stupidity.

It's just an informal tax on being an idiot. Probably more efficiently run than the lotto too.

Ugh..poor kid, I bet mommy lost everything.

Seriously though, this woman should have her kid taken away from her.

FTA:"She said she'd checked on the kid every couple of hours and he was sleeping," Lester said.

Yeah I don't think looking through the window counts. You might want to, ya know, go in there and see if he's at least breathing. Or better yet, get daycare?

Security videos indicated she'd arrived in the parking space about 4 a.m. Tuesday, Lester said.

Did the security videos also show her going and checking on the kid periodically like she said she did?

Car wasn't 85, the quote from the officer was that it was 85 in his car, with an open door, and that the SUV was warmer.

Plus the kid was in there for 8 hours, I mean WTF?

So was not letting certain folk in restaurants and golf courses, so was a thick haze of cigarette smoke wherever you went. Societies evolve for a reason.

My ex wife and her brother were left in cars at casino's and horse/dog tracks quite often in Baltimore in the 80's.

No wonder she has daddy issues.

And the milk he had was spoiled.

Child needs someone to attach to and quick; although, the formative attachment period is kinda over at 3, but it still would help to have a good parent to bond with.

/Glad to see a thread where finally there are no complaints about helicopter parenting.

2010-05-31 4:16:31 PM
I like how the police report redacts the address of the kid but publishes the mom's address.

hopefully there is a responsible family member who can take the kid in.

Then we're having steamed baby for dinner?

2010-05-31 4:21:39 PM
I am so sorry, I don't want to play the internet tough guy card, but really, somebody needs to beat that worthless excuse of a human being with a padlock in a sock.

I just can not stand people abusing or otherwise hurting kids. Makes me have the angries. And you wouldn't like me when I have the angries.

Besides, I could think of a dozen things more entertaining than spending time in a casino that could be done with a kid.

Colouring books, story time, blocks, finger painting, a bucket of sidewalk chalk and a sidewalk, baking cookies in the kitchen, making and eating pudding with fingers, (no spoons aloud) I mean there are so many other things that you could be doing with a kid than just mindlessly pissing money away.

And when the kid gets older... Lego. Motherfarking lego for fark's sake! Hours and hours of fun. Who wouldn't want to do that?

Stories like this one make me a sad monkey. :(

I disagree with the 8 hours locked alone in a car, but 85 degrees!!! No wonder kids don't play outside any more with the dangerous ultraviolet radiation and heatstroke inducing temperatures of the mid-80's.
