9/11 + 11 days = 9/22
9/22 + 11 days = 10/3

2001-10-03 09:21:53 AM
Let's not jump to conclusions just yet, eh?

Sit back, smoke a bowl for the deceased and wait for our friends at the bureau to give us more details..

2001-10-03 09:23:06 AM
Oh, stop with that math crap. You had better be joking.

So what happened the shmuck who did this?
2001-10-03 09:23:14 AM
It was odd hearing that the guy kept asking what time it was, almost as if he was trying to synchronize killing the driver with something else going on. No other accidents were reported though so it was probably just some lunatic.
2001-10-03 09:23:47 AM
The guy who did it reportedly died in the "accident".
2001-10-03 09:26:52 AM
i smell a copycat.
[image from too old to be available]
2001-10-03 09:28:23 AM
I fear that this may indeed have something to do with the other attacks. Although the style isn't really that of a terrorist... they would rather just blow the bus up for effect I think.
2001-10-03 09:28:27 AM
Good one!
2001-10-03 09:28:51 AM
Math crap? We've heard for years how the ancient religious zealots belive heavily in numerology.

Hate to say it, but a co-worker stopped by my office last week and said "when do you think anything will happen next?" I wrote 10/3 on my whiteboard and circled it.

I really hope I'm wrong and this is a strange, unrelated coincidence.
2001-10-03 09:30:11 AM
Isn't it odd that there is NO description of the guy? The Times/CNN always describe the assailant (i.e. caucasian, etc..). How much you want to bet this guy is an Arab/Muslim???!!!
2001-10-03 09:33:28 AM
Why a bus, though? Seems kinda lame to me for a terrorist attack - they seem to usually go for the big media impact.
2001-10-03 09:33:47 AM
Cute copykitty Spurt!
2001-10-03 09:34:02 AM

Why couldn't this have happened on Palindrome day (10/1/01)? I had a great one all lined up for something like this.
2001-10-03 09:34:36 AM
The guy who did it kept walking up to a girl in one of the front seats, and asking her the time. Sounded like he was trying to build up the nerve to do it. He went up one last time, this time asked for her seat.. she said no, and he turned on the driver ..

If he were trying to sync up with a planned thing, you'd think he'd remember to bring a watch..
2001-10-03 09:35:01 AM
you scooped Drudge on this one!
2001-10-03 09:35:25 AM
Once the FBI got to the scene, they probably went into major damage control mode. No descriptions, no speculations, no interviews.
2001-10-03 09:37:05 AM
I agree with SpurtReynolds. It could easily be a copycat... or even a sympathizer. The thing with terrorists is, they tend to try and out do the last act of terror. It is well known that Timothy McVeigh used as much explosives as he did to place more impact on HIS attack instead of the Sarin gas attack that occurred earlier in Tokyo. I fear that should there be a real attack again, it will be a lot worse.
2001-10-03 09:39:28 AM
Palindrome day was yesterday (20011002).
2001-10-03 09:39:35 AM
Spurt: Awwww. That kitty is so cute! That made my day!
2001-10-03 09:40:40 AM
UFark... Oh come on. What mattered about this guy was he was nuts, and the US has plenty of home-grown ones. I mean look at it, hardly the same MO as the WTC (except it was pointless, irrational and demented, in which case my boss is a terrorist). That's the kind of thing that leads to anyone with a dark tan being beaten up.

Yeah maybe it will turn out to be the same thing, but I can't see any reason to anticipate that, & frankly it sounds like a care-in-the-community job to me.
2001-10-03 09:43:36 AM
Planes, Trains and Automobiles:

You ever travel by bus before?

Your mood isn't going to improve much.
2001-10-03 09:46:40 AM
My last Greyhound trip, I developed a kidney stone halfway along the route (20 hr ride). Needless to say, I was pretty damn grumpy at the friends picking me up.
2001-10-03 09:48:06 AM
(except it was pointless, irrational and demented, in which case my boss is a terrorist)

LOL. Londongirl wins, thread over.
2001-10-03 09:49:25 AM
When I was dirt poor, I had to take greyhound when weather wouldn't allow for hitchin'...One time from Eugene, OR to Annapolis, MD -- something like 6.5 days...I ended up trading my walkman for a twelve pack of budweiser (ugh) and a half eaten bag of chips.

Best trade ever.

Worst bus ride ever.
2001-10-03 09:56:35 AM
The radio said that they news stations was playing it down, they didnt think it was a terrorist attack like they did at first.
2001-10-03 10:07:28 AM
Have you ever been on a Greyhound bus in the deep South? There is no possible way that a guy of Middle Eastern descent could have gotten on the bus, and obviously acted suspiciously, without one of the other passengers or the driver making a fuss. The folks that ride the bus are generally not the most open-minded individuals. If you ask me, this was some nutjob copycat killer. But American as can be, and no doubt, quite white.
2001-10-03 10:10:41 AM
I tried to submit this, but was too late. I liked my headline better, though:

"Hijacker mistakes Greyhound bus for transcontinental airliner"
2001-10-03 10:11:40 AM
Amccomis : Numerology is a farce. You can take almost any numbers toss them together in some mathematical way and get some fact.

Gee 9/11 minus the number of the bus (7) is 9/4 and that is the exact date I signed up for fark!!

I must be responsible.
2001-10-03 10:16:58 AM
The 11th would be a more suitable palindrome day. 10/11/01.
2001-10-03 10:17:58 AM
They are keeping awful quiet about it though - maybe they don't want to panic everybody. Usually when this happens, we instantly have a name and the guy's entire history almost immediately. You think with 50 million news channels, someone would have more info... very strange indeed.

Also on, they have a quote from a Greyhound person saying that when this stuff happens, they don't normally shut down the whole company.
2001-10-03 10:19:24 AM
Latest AP Breaking - Driver survived and is stable - Attacker survived had Croatian ID.
2001-10-03 10:22:06 AM
Schmee: I DID submit this at approx 8:45am and it hits the Fark article list 90 minutes later. News flash my anal passage! The title I submitted has changed. Someone else appears to have also taken credit for it as my "submissions tally" hasn't increased. Bah Humbug, I don't know why I bother sometimes.

Ain't Croatians Muslim too?
2001-10-03 10:34:11 AM
Here is a tissue and 35 cents for a phone call We82bl8.
2001-10-03 10:35:58 AM
What is your #
2001-10-03 10:40:38 AM
i think croatians are catholic (?)
2001-10-03 10:41:15 AM
Ack. Bus was leaving Louisville? Hopefully nobody I know.
2001-10-03 10:41:28 AM
serbs are orthodox christian, albanians muslim
2001-10-03 10:41:55 AM
The man was walking up to a woman at the front of the bus and asking her for the time NOT because he was trying to synchronize anything, but because he wanted to be at the front of the bus. Since he couldn't sit up front, coming up to ask the time must have seemed like a good idea.

The man was either a crazed American or a lone terrorist sympathizer with not much of an imagination. Sure Greyhound is a major transportation business, but not many important people travel on it. If the next major attack has anything to do with transportation, it will probably be the subways.
2001-10-03 10:43:02 AM
Croats can be muslim cath or orthodox. A national ID doesn't mean a whole lot- its a ethnic and religious clusterfark in that general area.
2001-10-03 10:45:03 AM
"near the intersection of I-14 and state highway 41"?

There is no I-14...

Probably meant I-24 and US-41.

Attention to detail in journalism? Bah. Who needs it.
2001-10-03 10:47:06 AM
Oh yeah greyhound. Had a one month pass when i was 16. Me and a friend were allowed to go from the North East down to the deep south, then over to Florida.

My parents must have been on drugs. It's like a travelling freak show. The left a left a deep impression on me. Probably why i have no sympathy for the poor.

Such a shiatty eXperience, never again!
2001-10-03 10:49:16 AM
Sure, it would have been more impressive to hijack an aircraft, but think of the money he saved.
2001-10-03 10:51:02 AM
Happened in Coffee County, what a great place to live, hmmmmmm coffee.
2001-10-03 10:58:23 AM
one time i rode a greyhound up to chicago and the dude next to me stunk real bad. terrorism wasn't even mentioned in that incident. methinks the news media and several retarded farkers are a little jumpy.
2001-10-03 11:12:16 AM
I rode Greyhound down from Milwaukee to South Bend, IN to pick up a Chrysler New Yorker I won on Ebay for $355.00 It was great; after the Chicago connection, there was almost no one on the bus, I got some reading in...nice way to see the country...
2001-10-03 11:13:37 AM
Why is everyone talking about the man responsible as being a terrorist sympathizer? I don't understand the connection to terrorism. Stuff like this happens all the time in the US, and now, because of recent events, many people want to think other acts of violence are related. I *do* think it's weird that Greyhound is suspending service nationwide. They specifically reported it wasn't a terrorist act, probably because so many people would want to believe it is.
2001-10-03 11:19:57 AM
Help! White trash terrorists!
2001-10-03 11:21:40 AM
True. If you wanna see real america you should go Greyhound.

But do you really wanna see the real america?
2001-10-03 11:26:42 AM
Nationwide: Cool. At least somebody has the nuts to admit that Greyhound aint that bad. It's a cheap way to get anywhere, and you dont have to drive.

On a side note, if this IS a terrorist attack, they sure are smart! One of our BIGGEST freedoms is the freedom to go anywhere we want in this country. If we cant fly or take the bus, then automobiles are going to be the last target.
