No, they're just finding site after site of mass graves containing people who were blindfolded and/or have their hands tied behind their backs, some of whom may have been buried alive. That's all.

Ah yes, those Shi'ites that started an uprising after the first Gulf War, confident that Bush the first would quickly come to their aid. Big oopsie on someone's part.

At any rate, I'm curious as to why the mods green-lit this one. No flame-retardant suit will be effective enough to save this thread from burnination.

this flame war is going to be great!

And this is different from Rwanda, Serbia, and the Congo how?

Republican biggies are only worried about being caught in a lie *before* they achieve their goals. They don't care if you uncover it after the fact -- whatever the results, they still have their mitts all over the oil fields, cash, whatever they wanted to achieve in the first place.

Der.

Bush 1 abandoned the Shi'ites after urging them to revolt. That's what mass graves they are finding. And we wonder why they love us so much.
We stay there long enough it may be us killing mass quantities.
Any weapons that they do find may have been sold to them by us - when we were friends with them, of course. I need a scorecard.
Let's see.... no wmd's, economy's in the toilet........Like father, like son?

2003-05-14 01:46:12 PM
Our allies in Phillipines have mass graves.

Same for our allies in Indonesia. Indonesia wiped out the island of East Timor. An incredible bloodbath.

Our allies in Congo have murdered 4.7 million people. Why don't we liberate Congo? Because U.S. industry already has full access to Congo cobalt.

Why don't we liberate Nigeria? Because it's the Shell and Chevron armies doing the killing.

The "Liberation of Iraq" is hypocrisy.

From the article's dateline:
"By Mark Morford, SF Gate Columnist"

Most columnists can write in almost any style they like.

I strongly suggest you fully investigate the circumstances surrounding the uprising following which these people were killed.

As opposed to mass-graves containing soldiers who gave their life fighting to remove WMD that wasnt there.

..hey is that Carmen Sandiego's luggage over there?

what ever happened to MODERATES in America?

I believe they were handed their hats and shown the door when Bush "The Uniter, Not a Divider" was sworn in.

2003-05-14 06:00:17 PM
Surprise, surprise, surprise. We were lied to. And now the conservative media is trying their best to convince us that all the anti-war protesters were sooooooo wrong. They want us to believe that the Iraqis love us being in their country and stealing their oil. As for WMD we might as well sigh and try to bring this up when we are told that it is time to invade Syria/Iran for their own good because they are hoarding WMD's. Of course I would imagine that by then anyone who publicly takes a stand against the war for any reason will disappear and more than likely end up in a mass grave in Texas somewhere with thousands of other people. Hands tied behind their back and shot from behind.

Let's face it people, if you have to become just like your enemy to defeat them then the victory is not worth the price you will pay. We are going to defend our Free America by taking away every single right of every single citizen? Woo Hoo!

Donald Rumsfield is a big fat idiot liar pig headed animal. Food trough licker. I fart in his general direction. His mother was a hampster and his father smelt of elderberries.

BigTuna & Stevenv, I will always do my best to hold my political position as a radical moderate;)

I'm hoping the Bush apologists will bring something to this thread other than, "Who the hell writes like THAT?" or "We just haven't allowed enough time yet".

Personally I was against this war due to my gut feelings over the situation (militarily hobbled Iraq since '91, unprecedented pre-emptive strike...) however I tried to stay open-minded and consider that I didn't know the whole story. I was told that Iraq possessed WMD and that was the reason for going in -- not for a global economic power grab, as it appeared on the surface.

If WMD are not found in significant quantities I will hardly be satisfied with the byproduct of liberated Iraqis and our presence between Syria and Iran as justification of this war.

This whole Iraq thing is so April I'm surprised anybody bothers.

Weird. I vaguely remember something about an "I-rack" in the news a couple months back. Are they talking about the same country?

That's good.

Soon 5000 Kurds will spontaneously come back to life because Saddam really didn't have chemical weapons.

What a relief.

I think the terrorists might care. Never mind tho cause they don't matter do they ?, after all they go and indiscriminately kill people from other countries. We never do that.

I would say "I told you so" in the whole Weapons of Mass Destruction not being in Iraq. But I really doubt any of the Republican cheerleaders would really care. Sad that so many people can be so easily manipulated into agreeing with a plan that is going to do nothing but throw another nation into the hands of muslim extremists.

2003-05-14 08:13:17 PM
Fine, we found mass graves full of people murdered by Saddam. Great, we liberated a country from a sadistic madman.

HOWEVER, these were not the reasons we were told the war was necessary. The was was about WMD. So far, there is no WMD. This is this problem.

Nice article...um..not.

So I want to know where is the proof that there aren't and CBR weapons in Iraq (chemical, biological, radiological, I refuse to call them WMD)?

They've found one of his mobil labs. They found evidence of him hiding stuff. No they haven't found a "smoking gun" but the guy has had plenty of time to hide any weapons and the US really hasn't been over there long enough to find something. Right now they are more concerned with keeping the peace (and rightly so) than trying to find weapons but they will find them.

People bash Bush but I think he's done a far better job than anyone else that ran for office and I didn't even vote for him.

People who don't think that the United States were justified are simply stupid. Gulf War I ended in nothing more than a cease fire. A treaty between the US and Iraq was NEVER signed! Iraq broke the cease fire REPEATEDLY! That's all the excuse they need according to international law. There was no Gulf War II because I never ended. So STFU headline writer.

It's an interesting argument, is it worth mentioning that the US is still technically at war with North Korea from the 1950's ?. The US signed a temporary ceasefire but the war was never officially ended.

All of those listed above do not matter in the sphere of U.S. interests. I'll be blunt--the U.S. is reorganizing Iraq's government because they control a significant percentage of the world's oil. The world is run by oil, therefore those who control the oil, control the world. Therefore the U.S. is justified in taking out a leader who potentially had the capabilities of taking out -US- and who had consistantly threatened us and who had multiple connections with the terrorist group who had actually ATTACKED us. Now if you find what the U.S. did was so horrible, go move to Iraq and lead an uprising against the U.S. Imperialists.

May I offer a moderate suggestion.

Please, for the love of Pearl, whether you be right or left, can we all agree to collectively fact check the next person that suggests war? I hate to seem cynical, but we can all now agree that, regardless of the intent, the executive branch was a little off point in their characterization of the enemy; and so, we all have a precedent for calling for a little due diligence next time.

That is all, we now return to Partisan Pugilistics already in progress.
