I really thought that was a joke spelling.

I liked it better with the Bjork "K".

Yup, that's a volcano alright.

2010-04-26 12:28:39 PM
FTA: "On the larger scale, they cause Plinian eruptions like Mt. St Helen in 1981," he pointed out.

FAIL

2010-04-26 12:37:29 PM
That's some epic Earth farting.

2010-04-26 12:37:32 PM
I spent an hour yesterday trying to learn how to pronounce the name and have had a headache ever since. Not saying the two are related but...

m0llusk: Yup, that's a volcano alright.

The right-wing bias in this video and the accompanying article are sickening.

Farking sound waves, how do they work??!!

2010-04-26 12:44:45 PM
What did Napoleon think when he first went to Mount Olive?

Popeye got mad...

/Beavis & Butthead, slight return

2010-04-26 12:47:24 PM
I wonder if one would be killed if you stand in the path of that shockwave.

Very cool.

The most astonishing part, however, is that Obama is not blamed anywhere in the article.

Zentelis: Very cool.

He did push for something called "volcano monitoring", which is rather expensive compared to the NEA arts budget.

Very cool video. Would have preferred a direct link to YouTube, rather than be subjected to the Republinazi slant of FauxNews.com.

ultraholland: sound waves

Link, but that isn't important right now.

/Airplane thread?

2010-04-26 12:56:43 PM
That video was oddly arousing.

2010-04-26 12:59:14 PM
Pronouncing that volcano is a great way to free up some phlegm. Icelanders must have really clear throats.

2010-04-26 12:59:25 PM
Yeah I think those are normal sound waves not shock waves but I could be wrong.

I am so gullible I do not dare to open the Right Wing propaganda and brainwash channel... We all know what may happen to morally weak individuals.
Thanks for the YouTube link!

The text of the article itself is rather poorly written.

Although I did learn that those explosions are called "Plinean Events", and that Obama is somehow the cause of them.

2010-04-26 1:09:33 PM
I heard the name of that volcano pronounced correctly the other day. It sounds like "I threw up in my yougurt""

Hey, where is the cool spreading ring of debris like when the Death Star blew up?

/too many movies

Why is that on Fox? We don't need that snake-oil science stuff.

Ditto. Checked the article for the "real" spelling and was like, "ooohh."

SuperNinjaToad I wonder if one would be killed if you stand in the path of that shockwave.

One "what" would be killed if *you* stood in the path...???

You mean if "...One would be killed if one stood in the path..?"

//grammar what?

Heh. I watched Stargate again last night and the pyramid ship had the same thing. How long have they been doing that effect?

Poowaddins: Very cool video. Would have preferred a direct link to YouTube, rather than be subjected to the Republinazi slant of FauxNews.com.

The video itself has bias? You can't click on the play button without reading the article? Are you afraid Fox is going to record your IP address and send Hannity to annoy you in person?

2010-04-26 1:27:48 PM
make me some tea: Ok I admit it. I lol'ed. Really we should be happy to have someone like Obama as President. With as much power as he has to change things far away and beyond the realm of the possible- he will either save the planet or destroy it. Either way we dont need to worry about it any more.

Based on my detailed scientific analysis and extensive experience with such things, that's pretty damn cool to watch.
