Only officially. We've really been at war with them ever
since 11th September.
2001-10-02 08:48:45 AM
They are just puppets of the US anyway.
2001-10-02 09:04:58 AM
Yay! Bollocks to Bin Laden!
2001-10-02 09:10:08 AM
Gurkha ho!
2001-10-02 09:18:01 AM
can you just say to me why is it not the US governement that declare war first to taliban regime ???????

whats the strategy here ?
2001-10-02 09:42:27 AM

(hope they dont turn out to be like France)

I think we've conclusively proved over the last few years that we have ample backbone.

And puppets?!? careful, or we might just declare war on the US too. Yeah. We'd win as well. I mean look at the size of our little island in the sun.

As with WWI and WWII, England goes to war first, gets its
fingers burnt, and the US comes in to save the day!

I suppose it's learnt behaviour!
2001-10-02 09:54:10 AM
BuRz : I would guess it's to take some of the heat off the US, as everyone is expecting them to do just that. It shows that it's not just the US against Afghanistan (or Islam as they'll try and portray it, which is the Afghani wet dream right now).
Then again, Cherie Blair might have the painters in, and big Tony's just lost it.

I'd say Swinehuunt hit the nail on the head...but damn, the US just looks spineless. All the way back to the we got your spry plane thing. I can't wait till a larger country is harboring terrorist and watch the back peddling begin.
2001-10-02 10:18:25 AM
Nuff: Hopefully, a larger or more powerful country doesn't need to harbor terrorists. Safe harbor for any individual by an independent nation is usually the result of quite a bit of monetary influence, as I believe is in the case of Bin Laden and the Taliban. Think about the benefits Clinton reaped by pardoning all those people at the end of his term.

The only other reason nations generally give "sanctuary" to individuals is to prove their sovereignty in the face of political neutrality, like Switzerland may give to some. But no nation of any importance, especially Switzerland (whom I have great respect for, if only on the basis that all able-bodied citizens are required to serve in the military), would jeopardize their sovereignty by harboring la terroristas.

I like to think of us as the worlds police haha

I think we entered WWI when germany sunk a passenger ship with US citizens on board. I dunno its been a while since I've looked into it.

Isn't war brilliant?!

Wizard! Smashing! Simply brilliant indeed!

I love England. They're America's #1 puppet state. However, if there's any country in the West more eager for a good fight, its the UK.
2001-10-02 01:01:46 PM

(or is that "Capitol"? I can never get that right.)
2001-10-02 01:09:57 PM
I wouldn't call the US "spineless" here.... especially when there are 4 aircraft carriers (4! Do you have any idea how much firepower that is?) sitting in the Indian Ocean right now waiting for orders to strike.

Somehow "spineless" and "4 floating flattops about to go midevel on some Taliban ass" don't quite mix.
2001-10-02 01:13:42 PM
Cleighton: Sure it does!

"Spineless" and "4 flattops levelING some Taliban ass" don't go together, but you can sit out there and rattle sabers all you want.

I, too, find it odd that Bush has still not declared it a "war", yet all of our idiot news agencies keep calling it that.
2001-10-02 01:17:17 PM
Thanks UK! You guys are true friends of Americans! Even when we (kiddingly) razz you a bit with mock rivalry.

What would the world do without you Brits to make it a funner place? = )

Thanks for backing us up!
2001-10-02 01:31:07 PM
Speaking as an Englishwoman I can honestly say - Yeah, if there's a fight, then the UK is in! You can count on it!
2001-10-02 01:56:03 PM
Great Britian is not a puppet state of the United States. Great Britian is the mother of America and although we were rebelious when we were young she still loves us as a grow up child. The UK and the US will kick all your asses.

God Save The Queen
Great Britain has always been a strong ALLIE.
I know we would do the same for them.
Bloody Brilliant. Thanks Chaps.

Go git im limeys! Turn out some of the scousers from Liverpool and set em loose on the Taliban.......too right....
2001-10-02 04:27:59 PM
I think it is a bold and proud move on the part of the brits, but I don't blame the US for taking time. Those of you that aren't here don't realize how constant the cry for blood is. I think Bush is allowing as much time as possible for us to cool out jets. Don't forget that it is Congress and not the President that get to declare war by the way. Bush can just make temporary military "engagments." I would wager that Bush has secret operatives on the ground right now anyway. He's probably just waiting for UPS to deliver Bin Laden's Head so he can declare victory.
2001-10-02 05:26:15 PM
Yoink I think you are right. Those who are crying "Knee-Jerk reaction" are wrong. Bush and his staff are not just blindly jumping in.
Bush was wrong about the way Clinton handled Bin Laden. BC didn't send a 2 million dollar missile to destroy a 10 dollar tent. I have read that if our missiles had gotten there one hour earlier, we would have killed him. Too bad.
2001-10-02 05:50:37 PM
Bloody good show!
It's good to have at least one friend who doesn't biatch about you all the time and has your back when you need it.
2001-10-02 06:06:08 PM
"As with WWI and WWII, England goes to war first, gets its
fingers burnt, and the US comes in to save the day!"

Excellent! Do you have any more insights? Not at the moment? Perhaps you should read some history.. You know? REAL history? From several sources from many nations? Then it may be possible that you could NOT embarrass yourself.

Well, guess the war is over now.. Britain took it. I seriously doubt that the Taliban could stand against ANY nation, if the reports of civil disobedience and military defection are to be trusted.
Since the US military is in the area, they should build a couple of trade towers in Kabul. Put the US embassy at the top floor and leave the other 100+ stories (And the other tower) empty.
2001-10-02 07:55:06 PM
Some of you arrogant, redneck yanks really give your country a seriously bad image.
2001-10-02 08:25:03 PM
England's military is actually pretty beefy :)

I think it's pretty cool that they've got our back though. Out of all the other countries, they've had the biggest, angriest response - to something that didn't even happen on their own soil.

After they broke a long standing (200 year?) tradition by playing our national anthem at the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace, and the show of support from their people, and now their country declaring war on the people who attacked us, I can't help but see them as anything but friends. It's a crazy world. Friends are good.
2001-10-02 08:42:22 PM
I just hope Blair saves some action for us. The UK alone would have absolutely no problem, but I have a need for some US ass-kicking as well.
