First off, Q_J will be a little late showing up. He sends his regards, but had some emergency photo business to attend to at a hospital. It was very sad business, and it actually made me cry a little, and I was kind of mopey and didn't feel like doing much for the rest of the afternoon.......he says he should be making a late appearance, though:-)
Still having photo issues, so probably no original pictures from me this week:-(
Here is a picture I just got today from my Sister-in-Law of her cat Lyle. Poor guy has to stay inside for a while and wear the cone of shame. He just had a benign growth removed, and is doing great. Any creative people have a great idea for a caption? My brain is empty today, and the only thing I could think of involved his prison bars.
My cat Picasso is bigger... I am hoping she didn't gain anymore weight. She's 17 lbs & her gut almost hits the ground.... She looks sweet, but she will put you in a paw lock & will not let go even when you are bleeding. It's her way of showing her love & that she owns you....
My girlfriend and I went to Coachella last weekend. We left a couple of friends to petsit our dog and cat. I got a text on Friday morning that said our cat, Dexter, had pushed his way through a window screen just as they were waking up and had disappeared.
Now, I wasn't especially worried, we let him out during the day anyway, and he's the type of cat that if he found a small tear or hole in a screen, he'll try to go through it. Same for bags and boxes, like most cats I guess. I figured he'd be back later in the day. He didn't.
He hasn't been back yet, either. My girlfriend is worried, but we haven't received any bad news yet, so I'm hoping things will turn out. We've heard a lot of stories from people about their cat going missing for a week or two and then showing back up. One person at the shelter said their cat disappeared for four months, then just walked in one day.
We're keeping an eye on the local shelters' websites and have left pictures of him with them as well. We've posted signs and keep getting calls, but it hasn't been him. I mean, hell, he's a black American short hair, there are tons of cats that look just like him.
To further complicate things, when we got back from Coachella we found we had a message, our neighbor across the street had found his collar. It's a breakaway type, so it could have just snagged on a bush...
Anyway, here are some pics (click to embiggen):
Kitten:
He's grown now, though:
/no, my girlfriend doesn't dress the cat, he was playing with toilet paper and got it wound around his neck. I may have tucked it in, though.

Yes, i did have puncture wounds.
Picasso has given me scars & I still have the "love" scars she gave me last June of 2009.... She wanted to play at 3am when I got up to watch Red Eye... She's my little AW cat... I wish she was able to live with me at my place in western, PA... 8o/ Also when Picasso puts you into a paw lock she puts all four legs around your arm & bites down hard on your wrist....

I just hope Picasso doesn't try to do what she tried to do to the one barn cat two years ago. I had to pull them apart before anything crazy happened...
Ava & I together on the lovely day where I was getting married & still dealing with the darn Swine Flu. My face got all puffy that month because of it...

Saw Pogo take out and kill a 20 lb feral.
Well, my area that I grew up has a leash law & I freaked when she charged through the screen to attack the other cat. All I could think about was the hefty fine you get if your cat is caught being outside without a leash on.

Ava was the runt of the litter. She's only 4 pounds & 5oz she isn't show quality because of that. If she was 7 pounds full grown she could be in dog shows... oh well...

You have to thank my mother doing my makeup for me looking alive. I had tinted moisturizer on so I had some color to my face. I almost fainted right into the tetrapod. I got married at 2:29 pm on 2/29. husband thought he'd get away with the anniv. only on leap years. I make him do the anniv. thing on 2/28 & 3/1. the 29th has to be in there somehow...
Thanks Sherpa! That one is perfect too! I too love SK, in fact I just listened to the audio book of the Shawshank Redemption this week. (Hope that is the SK you are referring to)
FOR THOSE OF YOU THAT HAVE BEEN LURKING AND NOT POSTING:
take the plunge! post some "blanks" of YOUR kitty and see how fun it is to see your kitty in lights and your family's kitty might get a fun or silly caption of his or her very own! a detailed "how to post pics on Caturday and on fark in general for dummies" page can be found here (new window). once you get the hang of it, posting pics is very easy, but it can seem daunting if you haven't ever done it before. take a look at that web page and it will make sense. there's even a bonus section that shows how easy it is to caption your own pics.
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE A NEW KITTY THAT NEEDS A NAME:
introduce your new charge(s)! perhaps we can have a naming "contest". post a pic of your kitty and let everyone make suggestions. some of the ones Caturday comes up with are hilarious and often very appropriate. my guy, "LittleOne", recently got his new long name "Jester Lord Fluffy Bottom" (partly mine and partly another lovely farker's - take credit you-know-who!).
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE A KITTY WHO IS UNDER THE WEATHER:
please post details and pose questions. Caturday is a lovely place to get help as well as have fun. many of us, having had lots of kitties and having taking care of their lovely and many, many lives and, unfortunately, injuries and illnesses, have become "kitty health resources". post the issues and we'll all see if we can help, and for myself, please feel free to email me (my address can be found in "how to post pics on Caturday and on fark in general for dummies" (new window) or in my profile).
FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LOST A KITTY TO THE RAINBOW BRIDGE:
for those who have recently lost a kitty, please do let us know. please show us your pics, tell us the story. sharing helps. a wise person once told me "a joy shared is twice a joy, a pain shared is half a pain". tell us of the lovely times of days past when kitty was around. tell us of your heartbreak at losing kitty. it's safe around here; no one will judge. most all of us have been there and will sympathize.
FOR THOSE WHO THE REST OF US DON'T KNOW WELL YET:
there is a fun map that was started by KimJ that shows where various of us Caturdayians are around the globe. to see it and hopefully contribute, go to KimJ's Caturday map (new window)
ALL PETS ARE WELCOME TOO. POST YOUR LOLDOGS IF YOU'VE GOT 'EM!
How are you doing today sweetie?:-) You know you got mail?
Ummm...
No, I don't have any.

Treat for LittleOne - 03/11/10
a few days ago, i requested a sample of a certain species of Honeysuckle shrub ( Lonicera tartarica ) as a cat treat. today, i was about to let LittleOne out for a romp after an afternoon nap. so, as i was opening the door and letting him out, he was stretching and yawning and getting ready to go play. i opened the mailbox near my front door and saw the letter which arrived today. it just came in a small hand-written envelope, a small diagonal cut piece of wood, about a one by two inch section, of the shrub along with four folded up sheets of photocopied paper. apparently, this species of Honeysuckle shrub contains a chemical similar to the active ingredient in catnip (nepetalactone).
so, he's getting ready to go out, i open the letter, take out the half-inch thick section of the wood and show it to him. as it gets near his nose, he startes to get visibly agitated and has no interest in going outside now. when i put it up to his nose, he's suddenly wide awake, standing up on his back paws, and trying to take it out of my hand. he went nuts. i have never seen as immediate and animated a reaction save for something scary like a dog or something huge falling in the room, or the like. instantly, he's sniffing at it, trying to take it away from me, gnawing on it, following me as close as he possibly can, trying to climb up me. i'm trying to get him to get to a place where he can play with it without where he won't run off with it. he has clearly lost his mind. so, i take him to our (his) bed, hold onto it firmly, and let him go at it. i was almost afraid he was going to break a tooth he was so excited, but the wood is relatively soft and he wasn't chewing terribly hard. i held onto it for a few minutes trying to keep him at least calm as he has his first trip on the stuff.
i only could let him have at it for a few minutes as i had to go somewhere, so i sealed it up, placed it where he couldn't get at it, and left for a few hours. when i got back, he was sleeping comfortably, but was clearly excited to see me and wanting to get back to it. so, i placed him on a bed and let him have the piece. i left him alone for a while and he happily gnawed on the thing for about fifteen minutes, rolling, batting his eyes, purring, wanting to play with me, you name it. when i came back in the room, he had drooled all over one side of his face, looked in a happy but animated trance very similar to a catnip high, and had an appetite. when i went to the bed where he had been, he had drooled a puddle and clearly had messed up the blankets in a playful way.
since then, a few hours ago as i write this, he's been running around wanting to play, full of energy, and enjoying eating. he hasn't crashed yet, but i expect he will in a couple more hours as he does when he is on a catnip high. he hasn't been interested in catnip much lately, but even when he is, he never reacted like he did today. And later, he slept hard.
i'll have more to report, but i want to get this out to you fellow Caturdayians who responded. i got the sample from (feel free to share this info):
Akiko Mingoth or Manda THE CAT HOUSE INC. 403-228-2287 (CAT-CATS) Calgary, Canada http://www.thecathouseinc.com mandawoodruffliamgcom (their webspace is spotty, so it is best to call)
and i highly suggest getting a small amount to try. i wouldn't go the route of the sample since now i have only one chunk and i'm going to have to get more as i hoard this small amount. call them up and ask for some. it is pretty cheap.
i have posted these scans of the literature that they sent along with the sample:

Thanks! The "walking around the tetrapod" pics tells how I felt the entire day. I still have yet to do my wedding album & I don't want to have them in there. I crashed on the bed as soon as I got into my pjs & slept of 12 hours...

timujin...i hope your kitty comes home soon. I had a cat disappear for a week and a half and it tuned out she was in the neighbor's garage the whole time. She never really meowed, was just a squeaker (hence her nickname skeekers) so we never heard her when we were out looking for her and calling her name. Best of luck!!

Good (early) Caturday, Everybuddy! I don't think that cat should qualify, since it's a pussycat crossed with a serval.
Going to be busy much of tomorrow & Sunday, but will be checking in. Let's make it a good one folks! I know the pleasant Spring weather keeps people off of their computers.

Happy B-day to muggsy! 4/20 was also Morticia's birthday, which means I officially do not have a kitten in the house.
I should try to find a pic of Lars being longcat. He's a big boy, though he has lost some weight with the new kitteh food + more activity. My guess is Lars at his most fit would still weigh around 15 lbs.......... Ok, apparently I don't have a longcat pic of Lars. This is the closest I can find.
Next time the Mr. is home, I'll have him longcat Lars and I'll take a pic :)

Conga-rats to muggsy. Holy crap, was that really almost a year ago?
yup, negligent-daddy moved to the east coast last may, which is when muggsy became my godcat and i went on the rampage to find her a forever home. she has happily been in her new forever home since august 1st and her and her new daddy are quite in love.
thank you Cooper, and predle...and happy birthday to Morticia!
.... he went nuts .... .... when i came back in the room, he had drooled all over one side of his face, looked in a happy but animated trance very similar to a catnip high, and had an appetite ....
I'll have you know that for the past hour LittleOne has been taking control of my brain remotely with his newfound psychic powers and used me to photoshop an approximate representation of what he saw.
Now I have an uncontrollable urge to eat a plateful of bite-sized rodents, will BBL.
Although not quite as cute as a hedgehog, this guy is not much smaller, AND is furry...and this one IS my photo, unlike the heggie. See this guy full size, and you know why his Latin name is Bombus.
SQUEEEEEEE!!! Not sure if the head explosion was from the cuteness or from the migraine (yes, I prolly should go to bed, but I'm being stubborn 'cause there's lols to see!)
Before I forget I too would like to compliment you Lar Jorgen on the multi-kitty organ pic! It's funny to see everyone's cats all in one place. (And sitting so still... I am sure they are up to absolutely no good. ;)
Not to mention, Sherpa's "Organ-ized" caption just about made me fall off of the couch...
CooperDaKat:timujin...i hope your kitty comes home soon. I had a cat disappear for a week and a half and it tuned out she was in the neighbor's garage the whole time. She never really meowed, was just a squeaker (hence her nickname skeekers) so we never heard her when we were out looking for her and calling her name. Best of luck!!
Thanks. We've been hearing a lot of stories about people's cats disappearing for a week or two and then just showing back up. I took pictures to all the local vets today and walked down some streets where our mailman said he'd seen a black cat. Tomorrow we've got people coming out and we're going to post some more signs and shake bags of food (he knows what that sound means)... I guess we'll see what happens.
Little Hayley, born with an eye outside of the socket was taken in by an awesome rescue group determined not to give up on her.
At two weeks of age, weighing .5 lbs the eye was infected and little Hayley 'failing to thrive'. Surgery to remove the eye was scheduled later, once she had stabilized, but Hayley's turn for the worse prompted a drastic course of action.
Woohoo! She made it and is on the upswing. Go Hayley! Go girl!
New pictures of the 3-week old newbs: Booger's 2 babies, who nurse off of Indie because Booger isn't allowed to nurse.
Booger now takes care of Indie's baby who doesn't know how to nurse.
Little Damien is pure evil. He is a fighter and the last survivor of Indie's litter of 8. His sister died last Sunday evening. Don't let that cute, fuzzy face fool you.
I have a male and female cat that I've had for about 10 years. I've had the male cat for longer than the female. I've taken him cross-country from ABQ to Boston, then got the female to keep him company...this was in 1999.
So anyway, my GF love love loves the female cat. She's so cute, pretty, dainty, and precious. She's kind of tiny, but she really is sweet. She loves my GF. For the last 5-10 years she was so affectionate to the boy cat. In fact, me and my GF would laugh and coo over how cute they were together.
Then my GF and I moved in together and I brought along these two cats. Since we moved in here, my two cats don't get along so well. They aren't hostile towards each other, but they don't cuddle and lick each other anymore. Like, never. The girl cat used to run to the boy cat for comfort whenever she felt like it. Now she might give him a sniff as she walks by, and they consider trading punches.
Nothing has really changed, as far as how the kitties are treated, the way they are fed, the way their waste is eliminated and cleaned up, etc... The little girl cat still is very affectionate with my GF and I, but she rarely lays with the boy. Occasionally they do lay together in the closet of the spare room, but that seems to be happening less and less frequently.
What do you think?
/I've posted this in both a TFD and the Caturday thread
akimbotoo:Thanks Praise Cheesus! That one made me laugh out loud! No voties?
Did that as a Q&D because Abbey was nosing into my lap to get her leash on, so she could go outside and tease the squirrels and forgot to enable voting.
Yes, my cat is now into going outdoors - on a leash. She completely freaked out the neighbor on her evening sojourn down the block.
Im constantly being told Spottie is fat. And I constantly insist she is pretty and fluffy and soft. That angle...yeah, not her best. I think she'd be mortified if she looked at the monitor right now! :)

I wasn't really implying she's fat, that's why I said I felt kind of bad. It was more in keeping with the "Pudding Cat" theme. I considered doing something like "This Space Available" or putting little bikini tops on her.

I'm not a kitty psychologist....
How long has it been since the move? Maybe they're still just settling in?
Maybe in time they'll warm up some more to one another. Sounds like their pecking order's been changed and who knows how it'll end up. Sorry I'm not much help there. I'll hope for the best for ya.
HEY how are you feeling these days??? How is your ankle? Do you still resemble a raccoon? Ouchie...
Geez, for a minute there I thought there was someone else as dumb and unco-ordinated as I am. I didn't know whether to feel good that I wasn't alone or pity the poor bastard.
/thanks for asking s_d, no major mishaps for few weeks now //but it's only a matter of time
OMIGOSH you're right. I saw 'jay' and just went for it. STUPID STUPID STUPID. It's getting way too late. I've often said 10 pm MST is bedtime for me and this shows it.
/thanks for asking s_d, no major mishaps for few weeks now //but it's only a matter of time
I'm glad...I really feel for ya. I cannot imagine what it's like cuz I have never broken a single bone in mah body yet but have had a separated rib. Man, I don't wish that on anyone...
Little Hayley is so adorable! She looks so much more comfortable after the surgery. I hope she has a long and happy life when she is able to be adopted.

I can't blame it on being tired... it's only 11 sumpin. Can't use the "blonde" either ... more of an old fashion dishwater.
BUT >>> when jaylectricity posted this >> "Thanks anyway, s_d." ... I went to google to look up the meaning. Wanna make sure I stay on top of all this newfangled interweb slang.
Sure hope manyz of you get a chance to enjoy "Honeysuckle Bark" with your furbabes.
I ordered two packs (packed 2). They were $10.00 each. Postage was alot. They're about 5-6 inches long. Julienne cut. Smooth surface and no smell. (to me, anyway)
I took a ton of pics this evening of my four 'experiencing'. Only a half a ton of them were worth posting, so... here comes a ration of blanks... have at!
When I put the honeysuckle on the balltrack (out of the way for a just a few seconds -- I got the super-duper po'd cat version of a massive "stink-eye".

HUH?? I don' get it. Did I inadvertently be RUDE when I didn't mean to be? COOL. Da meaning of WHAT? Mebbe you meant about the abbreviated "s_d" part. Uh, I had to stop and think too cuz Fark is the only place I use that username too. LOL!
What am I still doing up?? I guess you Caturdayers are a BAD influence on me. You should be ashamed...how'm ah gonna git anythin dun tomorrah?

Luscious is used to having string/yarn draped over her head. While I'm knitting, she "guards" the yarn for me. When the feather toy was placed on her head ... she sat there, holding her head up, very 'proper'.
Here's breakfast. It's kind of a buffet. Take what you want/need!
Mmmmmm! Breakfast! Good morning and thanks, Spinny! I'm about to go to bed now though -- save me a chocolate doughnut and a coffee for the morning (or what I call morning)? :D
Last week I wrote in the Caturday thread about Gem, who was using the area in front of the kitchen sink as her litterbox. We'd tried seveal things to no avail. I was getting frustrated to the point that I was thinking of having her put down because of it. Asking for advice here was my last move before taking her to the vet one final time.
I got lots of good advice, both here in the thread through email. Predle gave the advice I am currently using. "Put a litterbox in the area that she is going poop on." I did, and it works. Yeah, it's kind of a pain having a litter box right there, but it's better than killing an otherwise happy and healthy animal.
Thanks for caring and helping, everyone. Fark saved the life of a cat last week.

When you feel comfortable you can start slowly moving it to a more convenient location. I only move it a few inches at a time and let it stay at it's new location at least a few days. I know it's a pain but I'm really glad you did it. Hopefully it won't have to be right in your way forever.
Cats are like small dogs, targets. If it's not big nuff to down a burglar, then it's useless.
There is a reason police dogs are not poodles, and a bigger reason they are not gay ass cats.
A man with a cat is projecting his disgust for being a real man, and uses the cat as an external pussy to fill his feminine needs. -Wow, I really had to reach for that one eh? ROFL-
Serious though, I like cats, it's just that they are so damned stubborn. LOL

Hmmm, I'm a little confused by the term "REAL MAN" as it is used here. It seems to me that a "real man" would be confident enough to choose his companions without giving the slightest thought to what anybody else would think. EXAMPLE: I spent almost 35 years running into buildings and situations everybody else has run out of. Meet one of my VERY best pals.
