Figures...that type of slip up would never happen if the government were in charge of healthcare.

Damn Brits...they need to learn something from us.

I love it when teabagger types proudly show their utter ignorance. You really don't have even the slightest clue about how the British health care system works, do you?

Next time the notes say "Patient's cyst requires lancing," let's be sure the doctor isn't a cycling aficionado.

If I never read the words "Testicular Cyst" again, it'll be too soon.

It is alleged the doctor, who is now practising in Jordan and was not present at the hearing, also injected himself with a drug meant for a patient

so he got high and cut someone's balls off? or was the castration just an honest mistake? like...he's in the OR and felt like going the extra mile or something?

Doctor sounds like a wacko. Since he's fled to Jordan he will never face any sort of punishment. And since it's the UK the one-balled guy will probably not even sue. There will just be a lot of "Tsk tsk, sorry about that ol chap".

Such was the level of concern they immediately realised it could be a serious medical incident and took steps to complete the relevant documentation."

Translation:
Such was the level of "OH SH*T WE F*CKED UP!" that they immediately started to cover their asses.

Spent 10 years there, so I have some knowledge. The problem is, do you? Don't believe everything The One has told you, my little lemming friend, because it seems that you're the one who's showing his ignorance.

This type of story is not that out of the norm with the Brits.

But don't worry. Soon it won't be that out of the norm for the Yanks either.

First off, it's not out of the norm here, and there's no mention of NHS in the article, so he could have paid for it out of his own pocket and the doctor screwed up.

He is accused of misconduct and also of stealing medication.

Somehow, those two statements do really belong together ;)

I can't believe the doctor actually had the balls to flee the country. Thats just nuts. I wonder if he smuggled anything out... plums, perhaps?

Exactly. Which is why stuff like in TFA never ever happens in the US, where all medicine is privatized, right? And also why medical malpractice has never been a problem, right?

Why was he having the cyst removed? They are very common and pose almost no threat. Unless his was so massive that it was like a 3rd one.

Walker: Since he's fled to Jordan he will never face any sort of punishment

You wouldn't take a "holiday" and buy a "souvenier" knife in Jordan, and "accidentally misplace" it in an "abandoned" well shortly after this "doctor" has an unfortunate mishap in a Taxi cab.

Do people just not discuss things in detail beforehand with the surgeon who'll be operating on them? Short of an emergency requiring immediate surgery (where I was out of it), I can't imagine a situation where I wouldn't sit down with the surgeon, at least a couple of times, and run through his background, experience with this sort of operation, and walk through (step by step) the specific procedure he would be charged with performing. If anything didn't check out perfectly, or I got the slightest weird vibe from the surgeon, he'd be out on his ass and I'd be interviewing a new candidate.

And on anything involving my balls? The last thing I'd say before the anesthesia kicked in would be (to the entire surgical team): "Seriously, guys, you know this is just to do X. Don't cut my farking junk off, or anything else for that matter, ok?"

There are no "teabaggers" on Fark, it's not echo-chambery enough for them. Hell there are few right-wingers left here anymore. Just trolls of varying ability (including myself on slow days).

Better than pre-health reform where, at least for me, the rules were "If you want real any medical care, you'll pay for it yourself."

Doctors make mistakes, even at the top private hospitals. Who employs the doctor makes little difference, unless the doc is a robot there's always a chance they can do something wrong.

Pre-emptive flame rebuttal: But I pay for old people's Rxs and have for many years, its listed right on my pay stub. I'm willing to pay for it, but don't you think that's a little bit of taxation without representation (stretching the term, I know - don't act like you don't stretch them either) since I pay for it (specifically, its itemized, after all) but receive no benefit.
