(BBSpot)   Adobe says that Photoshop can't be used on "substandard computers" any more, and by that they mean Macs. So sorry Apple   (bbspot.com) divider line

Three Crooked Squirrels: I'm pretty sure this is satire.

I'm not 100% sure, but I will say as much as I detest mac fanboys, I detest Adobe's business practices, in general, far more.

FTFA the equally powerful MS Paint

And I did check the date of the article. Am I missing something?

Funny thing is, I don't like Adobe products, I've always regarded them as Apple, over-hyped.

I'll always use alternatives when I can, which is 99% of the time.

But, with that said, if they are serious and they do this for the next few versions, I could see this as a study about which Apple user would have to go "PC" over this. Either that or using their Windows emulators with a normal mouse (if that works).

Oh well, overall for most designers and print shops I know, this isn't gonna bug them, most have gone "PC" a while back as they got tired of the smug tax.

Fan Boy here, but not the uninformed, blindly following, nontechnical version. No, I'm an old UNIX geek from way back and I appreciate all the UNIXness in OS X and that's why I use that OS. Even still I have a XP virtual machine running under VMware (and a Debian Linux VM for that matter).

Anyway... if this article is not satire putting that in the EULA is probably a jab at Jobs more than an alienation of the Mac community. The software is still for sale at the Apple store... and I don't think Adobe wants to lose out on $1000 per seat on licenses for Macs:

Or, Apple announces iImage. I suspect that Apple has an emergency plan to develop their own image editing software if needed. However, Adobe still needs the Mac market for Photoshop in order to remain the defacto pro tool for image editing. Look what happened to Adobe Premiere.

Honestly a great idea...work with google/microsoft/firefox and others to limit flash on all apple computers

shut those fackers down so they have to implicitly support flash on the apple desktops/laptops....then bring the discussion to the greater public of why apple wont touch flash on their iphones because they are control freaks

In fairness to those who were sucked in, there was a hysterical rant (new window) by an adobe evangelist not too long ago. I'm guessing the lawyers are the only ones keeping this from getting out of control.

This is a total BS satire article which might be funny if it were made clear. As it stand you read it thinking "This is mind numbingly stupid why would they lose that kind of money over a petty dispute? Especially by limiting features that PC devices will soon have. Although, I like making a stab at non-replaceable batteries. The Mac computers have replaceable batteries though (not the phones or the Ipad)."
I think it became clear to me around the Gimp and MS Paint references.

That and the fact that Adobe still has a huge market on the Mac for its products. It would be like E! saying that gay guys are no longer supposed to watch.

That's 3% of the market they won't have access to.

Corporations have become satires of themselves. We've become so used to seeing this kind of stupidity out of them that when someone writes an actual satire piece like this, it's completely believable as a true story. If it weren't for the fact that it was posted on BBSpot, you would have no way of knowing it was a fake story.

Somewhat OT question: Is the iPad really a "runaway success"? Anyone been in a Best Buy/Apple store and found that there's a shortage of them (apart from maybe 1st weekend)?

Yes

"Apple on Wednesday revealed that demand for the iPad is far higher than the company predicted, with more than a half-million U.S.-only sales in the first week. As a result, it has delayed the international launch of the iPad until the end of May."

I have a feeling this is already Apple's goal. Flash already runs worse on Macs compared to Windows, and Adobe doesn't seem to want to optimize it. In less than 3 years, Flash will be a legacy technology on Macs, and honestly that would be a good thing. Mark my words.

A lot of designer types may love their Macs, but Photoshop is what earns them money. Adobe's only on there because it's better for customer relationships than forcing them to use it on Windows (farking your customers around is a smart short-term movie which backfires long-term).

The way that Apple treats Adobe, they don't deserve to have their products.

rather high-end ones too. They suck at gaming, and they're hideously expensive, especially with upgrades, but hey.
