Welcome to Farktography!

This Week's Theme: "Farkitecture"

: Buildings, bridges and other man-made structures.

We ask that before submitting your photos you read and adhere to the following submission rules, including but not limited to the following:

- Submissions must be photographs; screen captures do not count as photographs.
- You must be the original photographer of your entry. Do not submit anyone else's photography as your own.
- You are only allowed to enter a photograph once. Do not submit the same photo to another contest later.
- You may enter 3 photos in each contest as long as each photo is of a different composition.
- Please post each photo separately so they can be voted for individually.

Please note:

The overarching ideal behind Farktography is that image corrections are acceptable, while adding or removing elements in the image (e.g. removing telephone poles, adding Elvis) is not acceptable. HDR, stitching, or otherwise combining exposures in post processing are not allowed unless specified for a particular theme (multiple exposures done in-camera are acceptable, however). See the rules for more information on acceptable modifications, or check in at the Farktography Forums.

Legal: All photographers submitting photos to this contest are the legal copyright holders for the photos submitted and the photos are not to be considered free for any other use without written consent from the submitting photographers.

- Drop by the Farktography Forum (for chatting, critique, techtalk and so on)

- Stats can be found here.

- Image hosting sites can be found here.

Most of my pics are of trees and mushrooms. Not many buildings. But here's a weird house I kinda like.

The Riverside Church in the City of New York, the tallest church in the United States and the 26th tallest in the world. It is six blocks from my apartment. The angel is on top of one the spires leading up to the bell tower.

Atrium Dome of the West Baden Springs Hotel. Built in 1901, this was the world's largest free spanning dome until a sports dome took its place in the 1960s. This was shot at 12mm on a 30D, and I couldn't get the entire atrium in. Even if I'd had the 10mm at the time, it wasn't enough.

Maisenbacher House
Springfield, IL
September 2009

This is one of the last examples of Italianate architecture in Springfield, saved from demolition at a pretty steep cost and moved several blocks east and north of its original location. Here the new foundation has just recently been completed, and the gaps between that and the exterior walls finally filled in. Since this photo was taken they've done a bit more cleanup and started restoring the porch and front entrance.

Orphaned deck

This is in an empty lot just down the back alley from my house. I live on a half-abandoned block in a crumbling neighborhood. I'd do more exploring if I could, because it's an older section of town with a lot of turn-of-the-century houses - mine included - but it's not really abandoned enough to do so safely. Eheh.

But look at all that rhubarb!
