I like to shoot digital photos through the viewfinders of antique twin lens reflex cameras for fun vintage photo justice. Last year I got this 30+ year old 12.5 pound large format camera at a yard sale for $10. I rigged up a light shade for it out of the box my tripod came in and started taking pictures with the camera either on the ground or on my tripod. But I wanted better portability. I still had some baby slings that I never got rid of after the kids outgrew them, and I figured the camera weighed about as much as a baby. Et voila!

I did a self-portrait 365 Days project last year, and at the end of the year I looked at all my photos for common themes. This is what I came up with: A Brit-Lit reading, latte drinking, dark chocolate and whipped cream addicted, tequila swilling, belly dancing, digital and film photographer.

Old-Skool geekery

My office at IBM Cherry Hill, NJ, circa 1989-90. Note the state-of-the-art equipment - the Toshiba 320x480 monochrome lappy with *two* floppy disk drives, the IBM PS/2 model 80 with a rare (working) 8513 monitor, and the *color* 3271 mainframe terminal. Note also that the internets ran in square tubez back then.

One aspect of building model tanks is cloning parts. I mix up a batch of room temperature vulcanizing polyurethane rubber, make molds from the original parts, and then cast copies with polyurethane plastic. Most of the parts I cast are for infantry figures and vehicle crews, so many of the part drawers are filled with various body parts. It can get kinda gruesome, especially when the parts don't quite cast properly. Here we have a special drawer filled with nothing but poorly-cast heads, with a small selection of those heads in the foreground.

In the course of building that many tank models, I've amassed quite a collection of extra parts as well. Most of them live in small plastic drawers, guarded by King Kong. Don't ask what's under the loincloth (let's just say I build very detailed models).

A hard drive platter wind chime. Engineer Husband was kind enough to drill the holes for strings and actually put this together for me. I somehow got stupid and couldn't figure out how to actually string them up. With the exception of the string and the S-hook at the top, every piece came from a hard drive. It sounds *very* pretty. :)

Hi, my name is Ranger Joe, and I'm a modelholic. This is a 1/35th scale M-1126 Stryker Infantry Combat Vehicle with photo etched metal anti-RPG slat armor. This is probably the nicest model I've ever built, and without a doubt the most expensive. All in all, I have a collection of over 100 tank and military vehicle models.

Not expecting to win any votes with this one, but I thought I'd share.

I wanted a computer in my kitchen. It had to be narrow enough to either mount on the wall or stand against the wall.

I ended up buying an antique table, cutting it up, and turning it into my computer case.

The power button is on the end of the brass pipe on the right. The fan grate on the left is made from an antique tennis racket.

How it all started: I asked my Husband once what the inside of a hard drive was like after one of ours died. He was kind enough to show me. Ever since, if one dies, I love taking them apart. The one in the picture is/was a Western Digital 500 GB drive, with 4 platters. They're very shiny, and they make lovely notes. The magnets inside are also crazy strong.

"Someone who spends a lot of time and energy in a certain area, not necssarily computers or technology"
"A person with an unusual or odd personality."
From urban dictionary, I guess I qualify.

This is my husband and I at an all day event in Hudson, Ohio when the final Harry Potter book went on sale at the Learned Owl bookstore. Link (new window) We liked this picture so much, we used it on our 2007 Christmas cards. Our dentist liked it so much that it was still up on his waiting room cork board when we saw him the following February.

If you know what this is, then you know how much of a geek I am. If you don't I'll tell you. The sticker in my back window is a silhouhette of a Battlestar Galactica (Reimaginied Series) Cylon Raider.

In addition, the shot hopefully says geek a little bit, but in this forum, we're all photo geeks.

I'm attempting to complete a Project 365 for 2010. It's been hard. Today, I took a random shot of my curio cabinet. It's full of random rabbit figurines I've been collecting since childhood.

I found this pic which I think covers about 30% of my geekiness; D&D, computers, scale models, sculpting, converting and painting (the cat's sitting on some brushes). The cat is Oden, MIA since 11/09.

My Parris Island coffee cup is centrally placed to keep the nerd levels stabilized.

The Retro-Gaming Rec Center at the Home for Captionless Lolcats.

The fuzzy beasts hopped into the frame just before I snapped this, because they associate the humans putting the silver box to their eyes with getting treats. I fail at cat ownership as much as photography.

This preposterous-looking setup is literally how my husband and I kept in shape when the blizzard made running outside more or less impossible. Playing MarioKart on the SNES while pedaling a secondhand bike-that-goes-nowhere at racing speed, while the stereo speakers play techno music at you...it's a surprisingly enjoyable substitute for a gym membership.

Geekier than MMORPGs and more cheapskate on the entertainment expenses than a webcomic reader, I know.

But when you need 30 minutes of cardio every odd day to gain a Constitution point and going outside requires +5 padded armor and masterwork boots, what else is a girl to do?

/I was not much into exercise until husband sprang this xkcd on me
//figuring out exactly what it'd take to acquire a Lusian 1.3 gravity build was my own neurotic doing
///there are weights behind where I stood to take this one.
////Even days I work on STR, odd days CON, one hour instrument practice to DEX on odd days, and for INT we watch the YouTubed TED talks.

From a RoboCup tournament I went to. IIRC the point here was to build a robot that could find someone trapped in rubble after a disaster, hence the uneven surfaces of the course.
