Is it wooden? I was cautioned not to take any wooden ones.
2003-04-24 04:51:30 PM
I wish they'd bring back the Indian head/ Buffalo design. Seems like you can't portray a native american anymore without well menaing, but ultimately stupid, white people saying its "racist and demeaning". removes the first peoples from dialogue entirely, and speeds the demise of thier culture in favor if the Mc New. feh...

Boobies:Is it wooden?

No, I believed it is plugged.
2003-04-24 07:15:06 PM
Why don't they get rid of the penny while they are at it?

Oh yeah, because idiots can't disassociate the penny and the cent and think gas prices will become rounded to the nearest nickel; despite the fact that gas prices are already set at a higher precision then our smallest denomination.
2003-04-24 07:46:39 PM
By the way, I like get-rid-of-penny flamewars.
2003-04-24 08:03:47 PM
Hopefully it will be redesigned to weigh 3.5 grams, the current value of a dime.

Wait, are we talking about money?
2003-04-25 02:26:42 AM
We can't get rid of the penny, what else am I going to stick up my ass to give me more self-confidence?

</obscure reference>
2003-04-25 02:27:40 AM
Postman, you've spoken with my grandfather?

Impaler, pennies are good, cheap projectiles. Don't be hatin'.

2003-04-25 02:28:02 AM
I'd spend it!

2003-04-25 02:28:38 AM
ArmyOfFun - Not too obscure.
2003-04-25 02:29:47 AM
I like the new look of Fark, but its hard to see the black html.
2003-04-25 02:30:15 AM

3. Slang. A five-hundred-dollar bag of crack cocaine.

It's about time they redesigned the nickel. I can't tell you how f'in' sick I am of being on carpet patrol after my nickel spills all over the f'in' floor.
2003-04-25 02:31:07 AM
I'll buy that for a dollar!

Speaking of the redesigned Fark, I've been sitting here today trying to decide if the names are actually black or are they dark green kind of.
Oh, and I like nickels. They're shiny.
2003-04-25 02:32:46 AM
Okay, off subject, but does anyone else notice that the "return to FARK" buttons don't seem to be working on a lot of articles? It's no big deal, but I still hit the button at the bottom out of force of habit.
2003-04-25 02:34:28 AM
It'll still be worth 5, right? But people will want it more, for some reason.

I'd Better start hoarding all of the old nickles, so I can cash them in for big bucks when their value raises by .01 in 50 years. Is that a stellar retirement plan, or what?

2003-04-25 02:35:22 AM
OK these guys at the mint have entirely too much time on there hands. Lets give them more to do, like fix stuff.

Andonbray: yeah i dont really like the fark makeover i wan the red back
2003-04-25 02:36:05 AM
"He acknowledged that some die-hard collectors who have memorized minute details of the current nickel design might not enjoy the new design."

will there ever be a circumstance in which the oh so precious skill of having mermorized the back of a nickel come into play? will there be a nickel line up where the court has to call a nickel expert to positivly verify the identity of a nickel? Is there some cash prize given for drawing a nickel to the minute level of detail employed on the current nickel design?

I need answers here, I may have spent all those hours in vain!!!

/not sarcastic
2003-04-25 02:36:29 AM
Seems html doesn't understand the "cent" character, so I'll leave you pipples to add them in in the appropriate places ( I know you can!).
2003-04-25 02:36:44 AM
You handle my ass pennies every day! ALL OF YOU! YOU ALL HANDLE MY ASS PENNIES! I laugh at you before you can laugh at me, because YOUR pennies have been in MY ass. You hear me?? YOUR PENNIES HAVE BEEN IN MY ASS!
2003-04-25 02:37:06 AM
Bel4sucks - Do you mean the "Continue Farking" thingys at the very bottom of the threads? They have been working for me.
2003-04-25 02:37:11 AM
It just reminds me of those boring nickels Pshop contests
2003-04-25 02:37:30 AM
Another thing I don't like about the redesigned Fark is that every time you use the word "Drew" in a comment the font starts getting larger and larger. It's kind of annoying. DrewDrewDrew. Gah.
2003-04-25 02:37:53 AM
A new nickle! Holy crap! This is awesome news! I can't believe it!

.... anyway, what happened to all the good fark links? This is just stupid.
2003-04-25 02:37:55 AM
He acknowledged that some die-hard collectors who have memorized minute details of the current nickel design might not enjoy the new design.

Farkin obsessive nerds are everywhere.
2003-04-25 02:38:51 AM
We can't get rid of the penny, what else am I going to stick up my ass to give me more self-confidence?

ummm....about as obscure as the golden arches, a talking mouse, and 4 lads from liverpool

But still funny.
2003-04-25 02:40:22 AM
Redesign the nickel??? NOOOoooooo!!!!!! Why, God? Why???

/smells a Photoshop contest
2003-04-25 02:42:23 AM
Mmmmmmm, Asspennies...
2003-04-25 02:43:39 AM
It's 75% copper 25% nickle. Nickle, what a scam.
2003-04-25 02:44:08 AM
And at what cost? I don't have any idea what it takes to retool the mint, but I figure it can't be cheap. I'd be all over it, if it said "screw the French" on the back.
2003-04-25 02:44:23 AM
Hehe, ass pennies. I have that whole series (all 30 eps) on my computer.

And oh yeah, nickels rock.
2003-04-25 02:45:10 AM
Damn, you guys have tough standards on what constitutes obscure.
2003-04-25 02:46:13 AM
Did I miss them redesigning the Dime? Shouldnt they at least go in some form of order? (which after the quarter thing would be the dime, THEN the nickel, then that stupid copper thing that I throw in a big change jar ) ?
2003-04-25 02:47:33 AM
whatever the cost is, I'll gladly pay it, if only to have another back of a nickel to study and memorize in minute detail. I've already done all the new quarters and could easily pick them out of a lineup or draw them to a minute detail's degree if there were some sort of cash prize for doing so.
2003-04-25 02:49:24 AM
ok...1st...the asspennies reference is obscure enough to keep me from knowing where it's from.
2nd...i agree that it can't be cheap to retool the mint
3rd...on the penny subject, is it true, or just an urban legend, that it costs more than 1 cent to make a penny?
i lived on ramstein airforce base for over 4 years. all places on base that use money, besides the postoffice and banks which have to be exact to the penny, DON'T use pennies because they cost more to ship overseas than they are worth
2003-04-25 02:51:03 AM
Noooooooo... not another photoshop contest... please God...
2003-04-25 02:53:05 AM
I would assume (there's that word again) that in order to combat that particular problem the mint could pull more pennies out of circulation than it puts in, and could, in a perfect world of me always being right, pay for the extra cost of making pennies with the ones they take out of circulation. It would work forever, with no loss at all. In a perfect world.
2003-04-25 02:54:35 AM
strangeless--thanks for your wise may be right, i may be crazy, but it just may be a lunatic you're looking for
2003-04-25 02:55:57 AM
3rd...on the penny subject, is it true, or just an urban legend, that it costs more than 1 cent to make a penny?

Yep. It's time to toss 'em. Pennies don't make cents.
2003-04-25 02:56:44 AM
Joey Nichols.
See. Nichols. See, Nichols!
(Joey shows young Alvy his cuff
links and a tie pin, which are
made from nickels, as Alvy stands
with hands on hips, unconcerned.
Joey then slaps his band to his
forehead and puts a nickel on
his forehead)
Yuh see, nickels! You can always
remember my name, just think of Joey
Five Cents.
That's me. Joey Five Cents!

Joey grabs Alvy's cheeks and pinches them.

(Turning away)
What an asshole!
2003-04-25 02:58:49 AM
They would cost more if they were still made with pure copper. They stopped that in the late 80's I think. You can weight a bunch of different yeared pennies if you want to find out. Now they are made with a zinc core cause it's cheaper than copper. Or so I have been led to believe.
2003-04-25 03:01:25 AM
If this country was run by the Libertarians, we could all mint our own nickels in the privacy of our homes without the intervention of a paternalistic government

2003-04-25 03:01:29 AM
If I recall correctly, the US Mint has been coming out way ahead with all of the new designs of the last several years. New designs mean renewed interest in the money that is in you pocket. People like Strangeless start saving them so that they can study and memorize them in minute detail and don't spend their new shiny coin collections.
2003-04-25 03:02:02 AM
Really? For real?!

Finally, a coin to commemorate the Louisianna purchase is going to be a reality?!!! My dreams have been answered!!!!

Pinch me!

(ouch! shiat, I was just being a smartass, stop taking everything so literallly!!)
2003-04-25 03:04:53 AM
Andonbray I'm now memorizing your post about Strangeless memorizing the backs of quarters.
2003-04-25 03:06:03 AM
I will also admit that when I'm very lonely I will take a fistful of change, put it on my leg, slap it real good, and examine in minute detail the impression left by the coins.

I don't memorize them though, that would be a waste of time.
2003-04-25 03:09:05 AM
I'm now toying with the idea of minting my own money. But I can't decide whether to call my country Youngsylvania or the Fart Archipelago.
2003-04-25 03:09:24 AM
Oh boy, I just finished downloading the "Ass Pennies" episode. Gotta go.
