Tiger owed an apology to no one. Too bad/so sad he felt the need to do this.

I think his wife might have been due one and maybe his kids. After that you are correct.

I didn't do that right. I should have said he owes no one a public apology. You are right about the wife and kids.

This. I almost feel sorry for famous people who feel they have to apologize to people they don't know for their own private lives. But then I remember, shiat, they're rich and can have sex with whoever they want. That's not a person to pity.

If you care more about Tiger Woods' love life than you do about what's happening in Afghanistan and Pakistan right now, I'm going to take this opportunity to officially call you a bad person.

"There is one issue I really want to discuss. Some people have speculated that Elin somehow hurt or attacked me on Thanksgiving night. It angers me that people would fabricate a story like that. Elin never hit me that night or any other night. There has never been an episode of domestic violence in our marriage. Ever."

Still lying huh Tiger?

I don't care either way. Go f*ck 1000 whores if you want to.

What a wuss. Man up already, you're a billionaire! Tell them you live your life as you see it, and that you can do what you want.

Maybe, just maybe, a public apology to the wife and kids, but definitely no one else. Or, at least on that subject. Possibly a public apology for not being out there swinging a club, but he owes no one outside of his family an apology for things going on in his personal life.

2010-02-19 1:17:52 PM
That's funny. I blame my indiscretions on obscurity and poverty.

I don't know about that. If you looked like Brad Pitt, I'd imagine you'd be getting your share of the strange pretty much whenever you wanted.

What's interesting/hilarious to me is that he's taking such heat for staging and carefully planning this first foray back into the public. In this day and age, when media is omnipresent, and has an insatiable hunger for any and every detail about the life of a public figure.

No word - literally, no word - is going to go un-analyzed and scrutinized. Every look, ever gesture, every twitch of his mouth is up for debate. Somewhere on some channel/magazine/blog, body language experts will break down every half smile, every sidelong glance, and attempt to tell us what it means. The entire transcript of this will be repeated verbatim across the planet a thousand times, one sound bite at a time.

And yet, the media wonders why Tiger Woods is so controlling about the image he projects.

2010-02-19 1:29:02 PM
I for one was hoping for him to sit there and solemnly begin to apologize, then get up, hit Ernie Els over the head with a chair and scream "LINE UP BIATCHES, I'M A FREE MAN NOW! LET'S PLAY 36!"

EvilTiger, with strippers for caddies, would be the best golfer ever.

You know if you got that much cash, you know any chick is marrying you 90% for the good life and 10% for you.

Get a 3-some clause in the pre-nup!

3 3-somes per month or she gets no more money.

Done!

CNN does, they've already rerun his complete statement several times...

Guys, let's see this for what it is. A public plea to keep half of his already accumulated assets, and a public dance to get more endorsement deals in the future. If all he cared about was golf and family, there is no reason for him to utter a word. If wifey wants a public apology to make him squirm and think twice about doing it again, or for her not to leave and take half (HALF! Eddie!) then so be it.

Tiger: "Hey sponsor guys, here I am being contrite and a good guy again. In about 6 months, when this dies down and I win on the tour again, pay me goobs of money to appear in your ads and sew your logo on my bag. Thanks!"

2010-02-19 1:41:08 PM
He should be sorry he got married in the first place.

This would be very cool, and there's basically no reason for him not to do this if he wanted to. Look, at this point, he doesn't need any more money. If every sponsor dropped him permanently today, and his wife divorced him, he would still be a multi-billionaire.

The reason he didn't do this is because he didn't want to. It's that simple.

2010-02-19 1:42:25 PM
Interesting that he played the faith card, but it was the Buddhist one. Wonder how many Americans know there is no God in Buddhism, and how that affects his future sponsorship deals

I award you one FAIL.

Eldrick did not just play golf and screw waitresses on the side. Even if that was all he did he would still at least owe an apology to his wife and his kids.

Instead of just being an "athlete" and having a private life, Eldrick deliberately shaped his private life to create a marketable personna. Few would give a rat's ass about V.J. Singh or Rocco Mediate if they turned out to have a few mistresses.

But this is because those "athletes" did not lie to everyone around them. Eldrick tried to script his life to solidify his already burgeoning endorsement value. Ethnicity? He already had Asia, and America in his pocket so he decided to mary a blonde from Europe to extend his brand. Kids and dogs and family photos? Check. Showing up at his old college to see a game vs. their rival? Check. Go down the list and you will see that nearly everything Eldrick has done publicly has had the dual purpose of advancing his image.

He then sold this image to various companies such as Accenture to use in their corporate branding. In return he accepted sums of money that are astronomical by common standards. However, he knowingly sold a lie. And to say that he does not owe an apology to his sponsors is a glaring oversight. He committed fraud against them. He offered himself as a paragon of desirability from a marketing standpoint knowing full well that the image he projected was false.

His indiscretions were not limited, they were legion. There is no way for Eldrick to explain them away as one time dalliances or mistakes. His callous disregard for the feelings of his family and his repeated failure to correct behavior he surely knew was wrong, give us more insight into his true character than any scripted press conference ever could.

He is a self-centered, arrogant, narcissist and nothing he does now or in the future can erase that.

The Classical Greek narrative concept of the tragic flaw has found new purchase in modern life, and its form is Eldrick Woods.

Look, the guy's got a huge sack with lots of iron in his wood. He sees a hole, he feels compelled to fill it in as few strokes as possible. He just can't help himself -- it's his handicap. Let's give him a mulligan, m'kay?

Yeah, but why do you care about all that? What possible effect does it have on your life?

I had a conversation with some bar-friends of mine about Tiger, and here's my opinion, which nobody liked.

He should stop living for everybody else that wants to ride his coat tails for dollars. Screw being appropriate for some sponsor obligations. If he's a vag-hound, that's probably not going to ever go away. He should move to Vegas, live at The Wynn and hustle golf there. Imagine the fat cats who would fly to Vegas for a chance to beat Tiger in a round. He'd make enough to live comfortably and get to bang all the cocktailers he wants.

My wife and I are both children of AA members. When they were talking about this on TV she said "Oh, it's one of those 12 step things." and I said "Oh, you're right!"

"I do plan to return to golf one day. I just don't know when that day will be."

Thanks, Tiger, we really needed a press conference for that!
