Hey, the important thing is that it was free!

As seen on Lamebook.com

"yep my vag still smells like hockey gear"

Obviously need to fire the anesthesiologists for not keeping her under enough. Which is a porn plot in itself

Subby, there's a reason I won't have surgery in a teaching hospital, and I live in the US.

how hard is it to emigrate to canadia? is this part of the initiation?

As someone who is going under general anesthesia in a few weeks, I have little to fear from quasi-gynecologists.

Canadian Swedish socialized medicine

And who cares you prudes!

2010-01-29 12:28:08 PM
You're just pissed that we get them free aren't you smitty?

Hey... and I just heard yesterday that some Americans have to wait for elective surgery.

That can't be true, can it?

Because according to most Americans, "waiting" onlt occurs in evil socialized healthcare scenarios.

2010-01-29 12:28:13 PM
It would be really entertaining if they actually did "parade" into the room.
Big costumes, floats, maybe a brass band. Cool.

2010-01-29 12:28:39 PM
This is what you get when you let poor people have doctors.

Wait, you have to be a medical student?

What about an associate degree in hospitality managment?

2010-01-29 12:28:51 PM
How does this relate to the socialized part of socialized medicine again?

2010-01-29 12:28:58 PM
I bet the speculum would hurt my ass really bad, anesthesia or not.

2010-01-29 12:29:18 PM
You think this never happens in America? *hearty guffaw*

This is such a common scenario that they're been teaching about it in medical ethics classes since anesthesia has existed.

2010-01-29 12:29:30 PM
Why can't it be all three?

2010-01-29 12:29:36 PM
The story goes back to 2007 when Sara Wainberg was a medical student at McMaster University. Her younger brother Daniel, also studying to be a doctor, phoned for advice: As part of his rotation in obstetrics and gynecology, he had been asked to perform a pelvic exam on a woman who was under anesthetic. He refused, saying doing so without consent would be unethical.

"It got me thinking," Sara Wainberg said. "I had done this numerous times in my training and it had never occurred to me that it might be unethical."

That is sad that it was a man who realized it's unethical. One of my buddies's sister told me that most women dislike or downright hate other women or at least distrusts them. I wouldn't know if that's true or not but after reading that I wonder if she's right.

ZOMG! If we have healthcare reform, they'll rape us all!

2010-01-29 12:30:49 PM
Um, that's normal for teaching hospitals. Many third-years in OB never actually do a pelvic on a conscious patient who isn't hired by the school to teach.

Thank you, gorgor. I don't have to worry about eating for a few days, at least. Yes, I know, my own fault and all that.

/cool pic bro!

Medical students? Oh, thank God! I thought it was the sixteen cold hands of the death squad up there during my vasectomy!

How does being "socialized" have any impact on what happened? Do you think that if we adopt socialized medicine all of a sudden regulations regarding patient consent with procedures is going to automagically go away?

Let's stay on task here and discuss the real issue. How many of you farkers that live in Canada are going to go and buy a lab coat and wait around in hospitals hoping to get a free poke?

2010-01-29 12:34:32 PM
Submitter's trolltastic headline aside, that's pretty f*cked up.

Yup. It will be nothing but death panels and rape parades.

I am.

And this just proves once again that a lab coat is really a must own item for anyone.

This is how "teaching hospitals" work. I went in for an appendectomy and also got a nasty case of folliculitis taken care of at the same time. A student noticed the bumps on the back of my head and had the resident run the appropriate tests to find out WTF it was.

This is nothing new nor anything to fear.

FTFA:

Guidelines in the United States and Britain say specific consent is required but, by contrast, Canadian guidelines state that pelvic examination by trainees is "implicit."

Howdy. I'm graduating from a US medical school with my MD in May. Most of the people in my class (including myself) have done this, but it was generally on our 3rd year OB/Gyn rotation when the person on the table was having something done in relation to the pelvic area. Still though, this practice is not unique to Canada.

BTW, medical students are never "paraded" anywhere. I don't like that term.

notq: It was free though right?fark you, do any sort of exams on me as long as I don't have to pay.

Great. Next time you go in for a dental exam, they'll bring a group of proctology trainees in to practice their colonoscopy technique.

Don't let this article fool you. Canadian women have no rights.

2010-01-29 12:38:07 PM
So yesterday one of our volunteers was talking about how a local health system was trying to "force" its doctors to become employees and she said, "Looks like they're trying to form their own little socialized medicine umbrella right there. No one becomes a doctor to work for someone else."

I looked at her with a WTF expression on my face. Apparently she doesn't realize that the system she volunteers for employs all of its doctors. They don't rotate in from the streets, they WORK for this place. Every single one of them.

It's shocking how many people don't understand how healthcare works at its most basic level.

What are we talking about?

"I didn't."
"I didn't."

If I'm going to pretend to be a doctor I might as well go for more than just a stealth gyno exam.

SlothB77: FTFA:

i should add that these kind of guideline changes are "implicit" in the conversion to socialized health care. After all, now that health care is government-run, we can trust the doctors again. also, we need to save the money.

2010-01-29 12:39:59 PM
What's worse, they cut people open and do procedures on them while they're under anesthesia, too... appalling.

You do not want to know what med students are allowed to do to patients undergoing hemorrhoid surgery...

Gorgor's worst work ever.

You are SO buying the first round now.

I think gorgor was just pointing out to all us male Farkers that giving a pelvic exam isn't always quite the erotic fantasy we imagine it to be.
