Are they still going to turn left?

2010-01-22 12:13:36 AM
"There's an age old saying that NASCAR, 'If you ain't rubbing, you ain't racing,' " NASCAR president Mike Helton said Thursday. "I think that's what the NASCAR fan, the NASCAR stakeholders all bought into, and all expect."

"If you ain't dyin', they ain't buyin'"?

2010-01-22 12:19:51 AM
Will they have special match tires so Cole can pass on the outside in turn 4?

2010-01-22 12:24:01 AM
Good. Best thing to happen to NASCAR in quite a while. The low point was installing the roof flaps to prevent kick-ass barrel rolls.

I'll be watching Daytona and Talladega and rubbing my hands when it gets three-wide.

2010-01-22 12:32:44 AM
Kyle Busch will now be able to win the Cup away from JJ now,

Did you SEE Clint Bowyer finish Daytona upside-down and on fire in 2008? Those flaps don't do sh*t.

2010-01-22 12:43:42 AM
So who is going to be the next awesome driver that learns how to turn right?

2010-01-22 1:07:04 AM
They need another Aryton Earnhardt?

2010-01-22 1:08:03 AM
Yeah, they talk about how "rubbin' is racin'," but let's see what they do when these rules get a major star killed.

2010-01-22 1:13:53 AM
Superspeedway racing has become a big yawn since restrictor plates. They need to do something but I'm not sure if this is it.

I look forward to it.

For some reason NASCAR fans are fanatically loyal. When Dale Jr. drives by, the fans in the stands actually yell and shout. At the Lowes Charlotte speedway, there is "chicken bone alley" where the fans actually throw chicken bones at each other. NASCAR fans actually do buy from the sponsors of the cars just because that particular company sponsored the car in some way.

Let's see, it's now been almost 11 years since the CART tragedy in Charlotte and Carl Edwards has been practicing back flips into the crowd...

Chariset: They need another Aryton Earnhardt?

Some will get it.
Some won't

I see what you did there.

2010-01-22 7:30:26 AM
I listened to some of what Helton said yesterday and he really pretty much said that he and NASCAR fans want to see more wrecks.

I really didn't think the old cars were that dangerous, especially with the safer barriers and the HANS device. Dale didn't die because his car was unsafe, he died because he had no neck protection.

Ultimately though, if someone started a racing series with actual street cars, it has the potential to get huge. Think 24 Hours of LeMons without the $500 limit.

2010-01-22 8:10:19 AM
I really like this move. These guys are strapped in tighter than a newborn in a car seat, and they're paid shiat-tons of money to ENTERTAIN. They're safer than they've ever been, so let's see'em take some risks!

I want to see these drivers be aggressive (B-E AGGRESSIVE), get mad and get even.

2010-01-22 8:11:55 AM
when they start wrecking more, I'll start watching more.

2010-01-22 8:18:10 AM
It's so freakin' boring. Once at the sportsclub it was all they had on. I started an over/under on which lap would be the first crash just to make it interesting. I drank all the beers I won and then it became somewhat tolerable.

/obligatory "it's not a sport, it's an exhibition"

2010-01-22 8:19:50 AM
I have different attitudes about motor sports.

Open wheel: I hope I see some skillful driving.
NASCAR: I hope I see some spectacular crashes.
Street racing bikers: I hope they die.

2010-01-22 8:21:37 AM
And I guess you actually like the word actually. Take all your actuallys out and you get the same result.. See how that happens?

Uhhh Right. I used to like Nascar on occasion but at this point it's like watching grandparents race on their "Little Rascals." Speed limiting devices were the dumbest move.

Am I the only one that finds the irony in this? I mean, don't most fans of NASCAR reject the notion of natural selection?

2010-01-22 8:37:01 AM
Well I suppose you don't watch a porn for the acting so why would you watch NASCAR for the driving?

Came to this thread to remind myself why I don't watch, listen to, care about NASCAR.

Leaving satisfied

So I guess the scripted slapfights in the pits weren't pulling in the ratings.

Is "two blondes in a truck" still on?

That's golf, Jerry. GOLF!

It'd be great if they divided the field in 2 then had half of the field go clockwise and the other half counter-clockwise.

Now that's entertainment.

Sort of related question......is there a FARK racing league this year? I keep looking to see if any have started and haven't seen one.

You mean people were getting tired of the 200 mph parade?

Here's three words I hope not to hear as often:

What they need is a "Nascar Type Theatrical Hybrid Event"

SO. MUCH. THIS.

2010-01-22 10:18:26 AM
Actually, it's some of Nascar's off track decisions that really pissed me off. The way they punished Carl Long for the oversized enginewas shameful. There was no purpose served in crucifing him like that. $200K for slightly oversized engine he got from someone else? Please.

Note to nascar. Your bread and butter fans are the little guys in the world. Watching you crush one of us does not endear us to you.

Absolutely, there shouldn't be caution for stuff on the track.

They can clean the track during a caution, but not have a caution to clean the track.

When they filmed days of thunder, they put non points camera cars in actual races.

They could do the same thing for clean up. Build a car that can go near speed, has run flat/inner liner tires, and put a big magnet and/or vaccum on the bottom. Just pick up stuff like busted brake pads or other small junk by driving over it.

Send it out on track away from the leaders when debris is spotted and come back in once its picked up.

NASCAR should have just released a sex tape. Works in Hollywood.

Next on clever NASCAR gimmicks: NASCAR merges with the UFC. Watch Tony Stewart and Kyle Busch go head-to-head at 200 miles per hour while each tries to submit the other with a kimora or a guillotine.

Joe Rogan will assist in the announcer's booth with his unique style of lame ass color commentary.

My mother once described NASCAR this way and I think it's right on.

"NASCAR is a "sport" for people who are too stupid to understand wrestling."

The fatal crashes are typically the most boring. The guy usually just hits the wall head on and stops. It's over in a half a second. The entertaining crashes are the ones where the guys goes flipping end over end down the front stretch then catches on fire, gets out of the car, and throws his gloves back into the burning car.

Dale Earnhardt not major enough?

How about they allow fuel injected engines? How about increases on maximum fuel efficiency or relaxing the maximum gear ratio? If they want a race, give the teams some flexibility on building the fastest car. Racing is supposed to be about pushing the limits of the machine.
