SilentStrider: Much as it pains me to say it... I actually agree with George W. on something.

I'm up to three things now:
1. Mission to Mars
2. Do Not Call list
3. Telling Rush Limbaugh to STFU

2010-01-18 3:35:49 PM

Weaver95: imapirate: Bush really improved my opinion of him by saying what he said. Now let's see some Republican who needs to get re-elected show a spine and tell Rush to go to hell.

won't happen. Rush won't LET it happen. He'll destroy anyone who steps up and tells him to STFU. Or he'll try to anyway.

And then he and all other republicans will swear up and down that he's not in charge of the party. And that he's just an entertainer. And JonStewartKeithOlbermann.

Skail: Somacandra: President George W. Bush. Classier than his supporters.

It pains me to say this but, if W's comment was intended as it's portrayed, then I agree with him fully and it's nice to see him becoming a human being.

Still think he was a terrible president, though.

Nicely put. It was a good gesture, but in no way makes up for anything he did while he was in power.

2010-01-18 3:39:54 PM
I forgot how retarded Bush looks when he speaks.

But good on him for doing the right thing. I don't hate him nearly as much as an ex-President than I did as a current President. Probably because Palin-era Republicans run stupidity laps around Bush.

Meh. There's a whole lot I don't agree with W on, but even a broken clock is right twice a day.

Bush is declared a RINO (again) in 3,2,1...

Honestly, his actions as president were never of a far right conservative. Perhaps he knew he had to compromise, but the medicare D, NCLB were not consevative efforts. I am not one to throw the RINO term around, but he was not that conservative outside of some of his rhetoric.

I'm not sure how fair of a criticism that is because of this:

GOV. BLANCO ASKS BUSH TO DECLARE FEDERAL STATE OF EMERGENCY IN LOUISIANA

FEDERAL EMERGENCY DECLARED, DHS AND FEMA GIVEN FULL AUTHORITY TO RESPOND TO KATRINA

Also:

LOUISIANA NATIONAL GUARD REQUESTS 700 BUSES FROM FEMA FOR EVACUATIONS: FEMA sends only 100 buses

8PM CDT - GOV. BLANCO AGAIN REQUESTS ASSISTANCE FROM BUSH

LATE PM - BUSH GOES TO BED WITHOUT ACTING ON BLANCO'S REQUESTS

What requests? A little vague here...

1:45AM CDT - FEMA REQUESTS AMBULANCES THAT DO NOT EXIST

If you are going to bash someone bash the retards at FEMA or bash the people who didn't give them enough funding (whichever was the cause of their epic failure). This is a organization whose sole purpose is to provide aid in these situations. There is no reason for Bush or any other president to have to form a task force to deal with a natural disaster other than if FEMA has utterly failed. IIRC someone of the executives were fired at FEMA after all this went down so it looks like he did the job to me.

He was a social conservative, just not a fiscal one.

2010-01-18 4:14:30 PM

SilentStrider: Much as it pains me to say it... I actually agree with George W. on something.

I agree with him on a lot of the things he said and even a lot of his policy decisions. Problem is there were a lot of major ones I didn't like as a result of his complete inability to pick competent advisers and appointees. Which would have been fine if he'd had a Clinton-style "nothing really goes wrong in any major way" presidency.

He wasn't the worst president even in my lifetime in himself, but the administration as a whole was way too "barely passing mediocre" to really pass the amount of stress testing incidentally applied with even a c-minus. It ended up with at least 6/8 years being full of epic-level failure, but I can't entirely put all the blame on the one guy.

//Dynasty presidents are historically pretty weak ones. Adams 2, Bush 2, JFK (not technically a presidential legacy, but you know what I'm saying here), McKinley (a political legacy), Hayes (ditto)... all kinda 'meh' presidents. Don't even get me started on the streak that were hand-picked by Jackson.

//Also agree with the "not 100% conservative" comment. Bush is a good guy, I actually like him a lot in the "personable" sense. But like a lot of my friends I'd categorize the same way, he should never have been put in charge of anything. Gave in to his party's direction at all the wrong times, failed to convince them when he tried to get 'em to compromise... not 'leader' material.

I always thought Bush II would be a great statesman. Much like Carter, he was ill-equipped to deal with the Presidency, but he is fundamentally a classy, charming man who can now dedicate his life to philanthropic causes to better humanity.

Or, he could be like Clinton and go around collecting $$$$ on the speaking circuit.

If your speaking of the expansion of Medicare drug benefits, then the Teabaggers I know are personally are and were completely silent. Of course, they also use the benefits, so make of that what you will.

For the record, every Teabagger I know personally were and are life-long Republicans who voted and supported Bush all the way out of the office, and voted for McCain. Granted, I have a whooping sample of about 8 Teabaggers, so, anecdotal evidence.

thomps: to be fair, he was also awesome at instructing the various financial and economic regulatory agencies to sit on their hands.

Well of course, just get government out of the way and watch unfettered capitalism do its magic! Not to mention environmental agencies - industries can just regulate themselves! So he was sort of a fiscal conservative, just not on the whole "slow or decrease spending" thingie.

I'm impressed with all three men standing up there. Obama owes nothing to Bush, especially with the way Cheney and the Republicans party are out there shooting their mouth off while Bush gives speeches. Bush owes Obama nothing, seeing how Obama is going to use Bush as his go-to-guy for the blame game in the next 3 to 7 years. And Clinton is the man. His wife is away, he's free to chase all the tail he wants, smoke a fat one and give the finger to everyone who made his 8 years in the White House hell, 8 years that make the last 9 years look like farking Nirvana.

And look at them. Putting it all aside so they can send the message that getting relief to Haiti is a bi-partisan idea that all Americans of every party can get behind.

Good for them. Seriously.

thomps: well this just further bolsters my claim that gwb was really a RINO liberal and all of his failed economic policies are to be blamed on liberal republican ideology. we should all remember this in the upcoming elections so that we can elect leaders that will actually implement true conservative economic and social policies.

And there you have it. Delusions at work. Let me guess, this is what Rush is saying today?

here's the problem....of course you'd have to " guess " as to what he would be saying because you never listen. So how on earth can you and your other tard friends come out and criticize comments he made that you never heard in context? The truth is, you people can't even possibly prove that Limbaugh said not to donate to Haiti relief. You have absolutely no clue and yet you vomit out your hate speech anyway.

Here's some good advice: find out exactly what he said and how he said it or just keep your pie holes closed.

Umm, the states started asking for help on August 26. Pleas show any evidence that Bush made any public statements about Katrina or talked to state governments about it before August 30 when he announced he would form a 'task force'.

A simple statement like 'we are concerned about Katrina' would suffice. But no, on September 2, Bush says "you are doing a heck of a job, Brownie".

Talk about burnishing one's record.

It's pretty common policy to ask former presidents for assistance when it comes to relief efforts. It's the one thing they can all agree on, and makes them look good years after they left office.
