How many companies were making MP3 players before the iPod? Or touchscreen smartphones before the iPhone?

Whether it's due to an actual advantage in product design, or just the Reality Distortion Field, when Apple introduces a product in a new market it tends to make waves.

I'm so angry at apple! I ordered an iMac i7 and it had some screen flicker issue, I sent it back and I"m not going to get another one for a MONTH. This is obscene.

Tablets have been around for ages, there's even a company that modifies MacBooks to tablets but hardly anyone uses them. Reason: they all use a slightly modified desktop OS that was never designed to be used in this way. Bluntly: they suck donkey balls.

Rumors of Apple launching a tablet have been around for years, supposedly they have been working on it for a decade and supposedly (you never know for sure with Apple) one of the results of that research is the iPhone. If they release a tablet, do you really think it will be anything similar to a TabletPC or even a ModBook ? No, they will release a tablet with a specialized tablet OS.

The reason that everyone is so excited about an Apple tablet, while tablets have been around for ages is that most people assume that this will be a tablet that doesn't suck.

"void where prohibited" -- that pretty much means everywhere where there is a legal system. That means they don't have to pay even if they get exactly what they want.
