Typical MS, being bastards. FrontPage is really the best editor out there if ya ask me, that's why when I see stuff like this it's sad. They make good products (sometimes) but their reputation for being bastards often farks them over.

This tag should read "scary". I own a dell laptop and a micron desktop, both with windows ME licenses (not that i actually use ME ^_~). I can't use the CD that came with the desktop to reinstall ME on my laptop because it detects the different hardware!
2001-09-22 10:44:34 AM
Let's see Microshit try and enforce that.

My favourite webpage editor is MS Notepad 2002 :)

Frontpage 2050 - the Official HTML editor of the Microsoft States of America... of course they'll have taken over the country long before then :)

Don't you think it would be kind of ironic to disparage Microsoft using a Microsoft product? Anyone doing that has to be just joking.
2001-09-22 12:03:35 PM
Actually, the license doesn't say you can't use frontpage to bitch about microsoft- it says you can't put the "made with frontpage" logo on a page where you bitch about microsoft.

maid with frontpage...get it?

Now why would anyone want to disparage Microsoft?
2001-09-22 12:38:12 PM
what is it with MS coming out with a new OS every 6-12 month? take a look at the past, win3.1->win95->win98 all of those where further apart and for the most part new and innovative products(win95->win98 was less than win3.1 but still) take a look now at all the OS releases within the last year now, winME,win2K and now winXP. winME is crap, win2k is actually decent and winXP looks to be "next generation" with a farking 2g hd space and 256 RAM min requirements(not to even mention the activation keys). you know what? ill stick with win98 and if i ever format again ill just go to win2k. screw the rest. ms wont be getting any of my money for those.
2001-09-22 12:52:36 PM
fark the 9x/Me codebase. That is, quite possibly, the biggest piece of shiat OS ever produced. Run 2k or XP. Or cripple yourself and run linux as a desktop.. ah hell.. I dont care.
2001-09-22 01:05:45 PM
How much of this is true?
I run all the standard MS systems including Outlook, Word, IE,98SE etcetera and also run Zonealarm, but I don't get any unexpected internet usage (Strangely enough, IE does need to access the internet to visit Fark)
The other day an article on Fark was grumbling about XP not running Java unless you download Virtual Machine. This is to meet the terms and conditions laid on Microsoft by Sun, following a recent court action.
My own experience would suggest that we should thank God each day that Windows is not owned by Sun.
2001-09-22 01:33:02 PM
Jaybee: You are incorrect about the Microsoft/Sun Microsystems decision. Microsoft was allowed to continue using the Sun JRE BUT they were not to be allowed to make their own proprietary extensions to Java (like there were before the court action).

The reason XP users have to go download the JRE instead of it being pre-loaded with the OS is because of Microsoft. They lost so they took their ball and went home.

Quit yer whinin' and buy an Altair.
2001-09-22 02:26:37 PM
Someone should also credit BB Spot, as it under their link list as well.
2001-09-22 02:52:50 PM
I used to biatch about microsoft until I started running linux. Now I don't have to deal with them any more (except when I want to play games) so I really don't care.
2001-09-22 04:32:49 PM
Oh yes, but in a year or two free OS'es like Linux will be *illegal* if the SSSCA is passed into law. It would make it illegal for any digital device to to not include "approved" content protection (thanks to your friendly media mega-corps for buying this one). Of course the needed content protection will involve patents and expensive licenses, making it impossible to support in free software even if you wanted to. Since Microsoft probably owns several of those patents, you won't see them complaining about this.

While where all legitimately worried and peroccupied about terrorists now, our freedoms are quietly and steadily bought up by the corporations. I'm tellin' ya folks, if you live in the USA -write- your congress-person and Senators and let them know you won't stand for them screwing the consumer out of our rights any longer! A good old fashion dead-tree letter has a better chance than email.

Just use dreamweaver, I do, you can use it to disparage Microsoft all you want and it works much better also.
2001-09-22 05:01:34 PM
No shiat..
If you don't like Microsoft, shut the fark up and use Linux, FreeBSD, Solaris, OS/2, or any of the other REAL operating systems.
I am so farking sick of people whining about Microsoft.

Use a REAL OS.
2001-09-22 05:04:02 PM
And I'm going to clarify this before anyone starts pulling the "Linux has no support for applications or games"..

Linux has everything you need. EVERYTHING.
Office suites, games, database, spreadsheets, applications, graphic editors, text editors, farking everything.. All you have to do is open a book and figure it out. I've been using Slackware for almost 8 years now..
I've also got Windows XP on another partition.. it's out, it's final.. I didn't pay a god damn penny.
2001-09-22 05:35:48 PM
Does Linux have Half-Life?

Hmmm... didn't think so.
2001-09-22 05:46:50 PM
heya desynch...

can you put a NSFW on that pic of yours...awe hell, how about a Not Safe For Anywhere

just a thought, don't be a dick...capy
2001-09-22 07:00:45 PM
Linux sucks, Windows is the best OS. Only idiots use Linux, why don't you go tarball your winnuke or whatever you do on Linux.
2001-09-22 07:09:13 PM
Desynch: It's more than a matter of everyone shutting up and using linux if they don't like Microsoft. Most people who use a computer are only ever taught, or learn how to use, Microsoft products because they are the "industry standard". The "I just want email" people understand the Microsoft issue about as well as quantum theory. This concentration of money allows them to crush competition, and as Neko mentioned, convince politicians to ban Linux and its'ilk to remove the options the tech savvy have.
2001-09-22 07:11:49 PM
The message above my last post proves my point about how little most people know, beginning with Windows being a shell on the OS, not an OS, and that Windows sucks no matter what it's called :)
2001-09-22 08:08:03 PM
I can't believe someone actually read the license agreement.
2001-09-22 09:42:28 PM
I cant either, but I usually skim just to see what they are threatening now. This caught my eye, imbedded about halfway down the Office 2000 End User Liscense Agreement:

" ...Note on JAVA support. The SOFTWARE PRODUCT may contain support for programs written in JAVA. JAVA technology is not fault tolerant and is not designed manufactured or intended for use or resale as on-line control equipment in hazardous environments requireing fail-safe performance, such as the operation of nuclear facilities, aircraft navigation or communication systems, air traffic control, direct life support machines, or weapon systems.in which the failure of JAVA technology could lead directly to death, personal injury severe physical or environmental damage..."

Damn, you could DIE from using JAVA, better switch to Active-X, which is OK for nuclear facilities?

I heard that there was some hidden(?) level (maybe an addon?) for Microshiat Flight Simulator where u had to crash your plane into the world trade center.
Coincidence? I think not.

Blah, FB:

I was just about getting sick of diddling with this computer in an effort to get it to recognize the printer again...and thinking about reformatting. Running Win98 now, but no more install disk, so it's time to go shopping for a new OS. HD space I got (40 GB HD, aint a problem), but 248 MB RAM for XP? Holy...screw that! I got 128, but I don't feel like installing more RAM on top of everything else.)

After FB's frank "Or cripple yourself and use Linux for a desktop" comment, not to mention I'd rather be compatible with my probable workplaces and with the local Internet Cafes...Win 2k is decent, you say?
2001-09-23 12:33:54 AM
yes, win2k is the way to go if you want a solid desktop OS. everything will run very good except games. newer games also run on win2k but with older ones you will have some trouble. use win98 for games and win2k for applications. that is the direction i would take.
2001-09-23 12:43:36 AM
Thanks, Blah.

(another problem is that my win98 is screwing up when I have the video card up, so games no work. Oh well! Win2k, hm now I've just got to go find out how much it costs.)

janus4935: did you by any chance hear that from a friend, who heard it from their brother's girlfriend who's sister goes out with someone who works at microsoft and overheard it at the photocopier?
