That is truly, truly stupid. I'm just off to pop my £1000 note in to barclays.
2001-09-20 09:26:15 AM
Those clerks only make about 8 bucks an hour. With that kind of wage they are bound to get some stupid people in the mix.
2001-09-20 09:27:13 AM
Pay me 50$ an hour, and I'll still be stupid.
2001-09-20 09:29:34 AM
Why bother faking a £1m bill in the first place?
2001-09-20 09:30:12 AM
The story didn't mention what happened to the bank employee. Anyone that stupid shouldn't be allowed to have a job where they have to handle money or sharp objects.
2001-09-20 09:32:38 AM
I'm wondering if this same banker will accept 3 dollar bills?
2001-09-20 09:34:46 AM
Frankly, I'm much more interested in the poll they were conducting at the bottom of the page:

Should an athlete lose a medal for mooning?

Total Votes for this Question: 11823
So far, 32% have voted for Yes
So far, 68% have voted for No

Now *that* is news.
2001-09-20 09:35:05 AM
What was the dpi on that printer?
2001-09-20 09:36:50 AM
Have you ever tried passing a $100 bill? You tend to get all kinds of scrutiny. $ 1mil? WTF...
2001-09-20 09:36:59 AM
What the hell would you do with a million dollar note anyway? - Most places would definetely struggle for change

"Gee sir you got anything smaller, I'm all out of fifty's"
2001-09-20 09:48:27 AM
this story is either fake or just plain gay, no one is that retarded. even a guy in a coma would catch the fake million dollar bill!
2001-09-20 10:04:20 AM
A million dollar bill, eh? The big question the teller should wonder is... Where did this person get this bill which is basically not in circulation and why did they get it as opposed to a check? I've heard of giving someone a million dollar check before, but never a bill.
2001-09-20 10:18:45 AM
I've gotten crap for trying to use 50's. The clerks hold it up to a light, try to feel for the magnetic strip.
Jesus, how do you get a 1 million dollar bill past?
2001-09-20 10:22:54 AM
Obviously a product of the US public school system.
2001-09-20 10:26:35 AM
Slippy - I voted!!!
2001-09-20 10:26:49 AM
I cant figure out whats worse here: the woman thinking she could pass off a fake $1000000 bill to the bank, or that the teller just accepted it with less scrutiny than if it was a $100 bill.
2001-09-20 10:29:12 AM
Could I have my change in singles please?
2001-09-20 10:30:20 AM
She is currently out on bail after posting her $25,000 w/ a single bill.
2001-09-20 10:32:39 AM
Any chance the teller was a complice? Then again, s/he'd be pretty stupid to think s/he wouldn't be caught. No way around this, another piece of evidence that people are stupid.

Blue Owl: Very funny.

This is as bad as one that happened in Arkansas (no surprise) several years ago. Someone was passing fake $20s so a photo was posted in the local paper with a description and what to watch for (you can see this coming can't you?). Someone cut out the photo, colored it green and passed it at a local 7-11. The cashier was fired.

I wonder which prez it had on it
2001-09-20 10:57:03 AM
I think the Statue of Liberty is on the $1,000,000 bill.

Wonder if that teller accepts $3 bills...?
2001-09-20 11:01:08 AM
I have a few million dollar bills but I am never so dumb as this lady to go to a bank with it. You won't see me walking around with one of my million dollar bills, just not safe.
2001-09-20 11:02:17 AM
Once asked a clerk at my credit union for a hard copy of the account activity for the last 30 days. She went to the printer, came back with a perplexed frown, said there was a problem with the printer, and asked me what "Load Letter" meant.
2001-09-20 11:22:41 AM
please no-one post that joke about the frog going to the bank teller that ends like 'give the frog a loan, his dad's a rolling stone'

or however it ends
2001-09-20 11:23:15 AM
What's really scary is that it took the bank so long to catch on. I mean, the tellers turn in their drawers or whatever daily. Someone else is supposed to check them for accuracy. I've seen them closing out a drawer before. In that bank they wrote down the total amount they had in each denomination. Didn't the checker notice the $1,000,000 in $1,000,000 bills on the tally? Jeesh.

This is the second really stupid story on here from PA today...hmmm...
2001-09-20 01:23:26 PM
LadyAlexa: I think this is the only bank that accepts 3 dollar bills:

Okay, okay... that wasn't funny.
2001-09-20 01:36:12 PM
Bank tellers make about as much as McDonald's employees, sometimes less. In some banks, they get about half as much training. It isn't all that surprising, really.

Ok fellow farkers. I used to live in Newport where this actualy happened for about 10 years. I was finally able to escape in March. In order to understand this story you have to understand the town and the county it is in. Newport, Perry County, PA is full of inbred hicks. Basically it is just like West Virginia. The majority of the people are stupid so the fact that the teller would accept the fake bill does not surprise me. This is how stupid these people are: In my senior year there were 88 people in the class. I missed 100 days out of the school year because of Illnesses, car accident, hang overs, being high and because I just didn't feel like being there. Therefore, I had a D average for the year and managed to graduate 40 out of 88. What amazes me is that there were people who were there 'learning' everyday and I beat them in class ranking. They are just plain dumb! This county is isolated by mountains and is so far behind the times that it is the only county in the South-Central PA area that does not even have a traffic light. This area does have call waiting but doesn't even have caller-ID available. The phone lines and switches are so outdated that the fastest dial-up speed is 33.6 in town. They do have a local ISP but it sucks and it is owned by the same guy who owns Henry's Electronics Store. Check out the members pages on this site to see what kind of people they are. God I hate people who inbreed

It probably won't take much to Fark that link.

"The fake $1 million bill is about 10 times the value of the largest bill ever printed by the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing..."

"The $100,000 bill existed for about three weeks in the 1930s..."

Uh, I think it's safe to say $1 million divided by $100,000 is exactly 10.
2001-09-20 02:34:43 PM
Well, actually a fake $1 million bill is worth, well... about nothing.

Can't we all just break-out-a-few-rolls-of-wooden-nickels along?

I once just farking around, gave a teller at a hardware store a fake $3 bill (The one with Clinton). She took it without blinking and gave me change from $3. I was already out the door before I decided it would be best to go back and correct her.

Athena: Salmon Chase is on the $10k. The other non circulated bills are $500 (McKinley), $1k (Cleveland), $5k (Madison), and $100k (Wilson).

And my teachers told me knowing crap like that would never come in handy, if they could see me now...

I remember a while back some local bank had this girl that tried opening an account with a fake 1million dollar bill
that people were handing out at a party. When she was arrested i heard that she was claiming she got it out of her grandmother's wil. I don't know if she said that or not because I've heard her grandmother was the one that paid her bail. But what I know for sure is she was arrested but the rest were rumors I think;but when I saw her picture on the news she looked very poor.

-sometimes I question my morality-

I have a 1 million dollar bill. I been carrying it in my wallet for awhile now. Its a little torn up but I'll scan it. It looks pretty real. The guy that gave it to me was an impersonator of Larry from the three stooges. He even had a fake id of Larry. No lie. I had it sitting on my register and someone asked me, "Is that real?". No lie. No lie. I swear!

Scan coming next.
