Leo-Hector is a surprisingly cool name, especially for that cat

FTFA: "The 777 photos studied by Villarreal showed the cats looking at a television, computer, DVDs or other media 6 percent of the time"

Christ. I should have known those little farkers were up to no good when I found all that damage on my Ted Nugent disc.

We had a cat that loved to leave dead things on the side steps for us. Once there was a squirrel head, standing up straight, left there.
Oh, the memories.

Put up a couple bird feeders where the cat can see them and you can up that to all the time the cat isn't eating, sleeping or pooping. And she'll sleep where she can see the bird feeders.

pandabear: Put up a couple bird feeders where the cat can see them and you can up that to all the time the cat isn't eating, sleeping or pooping. And she'll sleep where she can see the bird feeders.

Get the kind with the thin metal poles and spray it with Pam or any other cooking oil. If you have squirrels you might end up spending more time at the window than your cat.

Can't be talking about my cat. She spends at least 80% of her day sleeping on either my bed, my son's bed, my platform rocker, the loveseat in the living room or her bed under the computer desk. Of course she's a senior cat so she sleeps more than younger cats. But she still has a hissy fit if another cat is on our patio and will charge the sliding glass door, bonking her head on the glass in an attempt to get at the offending intruder.

Fark It: If you have squirrels you might end up spending more time at the window than your cat.

Squirrels we have a bazillion of. But we also have a large number of trees that provide them with all the hickory nuts, acorns, maple seeds and cetera that they can eat, so they leave the bird feeders alone.

Not that they don't provide entertainment, because they are territorial as hell, always horny, and for those reasons carry on their little wars for my (and the cat's) amusement.

Mine spends a good portion of her time begging for her meals. She'll sleep if things are quiet, but if I'm running around, she often follows and 'helps'. But she also sleeps very deeply through the night.

Is this the caturday thread?

I used to think I might want a cat. No more. They scratch my car when they jump on it.

My mom has two cats -- one solid black, and one solid white. They were adopted ferals. They BOTH bring birds and mice that they've killed to the front porch just about every day.

It's damned impressive to watch the female (the black one) jump into the sky and snatch a bird out of the air.

Looks like it.

Which is sad for me because I can't do anything with this, video-wise. I can't find a theme song for this article.

Sigh.

Well, it's finals week, so maybe I should actually do my job instead. See you next week.

hmmmm It's a tough one. I can think of at least one off the top of my head, though, so maybe if I have a bit of time later, I can do something q&d.

AND I still have the video I was working on last week that I finally had a few minutes to finish, so while it might not quite jive with the article, here y'all go:

Just a thought. We know that cats sleep more than the article or headline suggest..

/good luck with the finals, I for one look forward to your return next week (or whenever you can, hope the hand is better...)

How about "Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell featuring Michael Jackson?

(don't get me wrong, I'm not a Michael Jackson fan. NTTAWWT. But it's a catchy song.)

Last week, when we came back from Thanksgiving, there was a dead lizard in my guest bathroom. Either my cat or my father's cat left the prize there. Also, my Scooter loves to bring me his "dead" Tweety toys. And Tuesday morning, someone, I think my dad's cat, got the big kill: the Christmas tree. My tree was knocked to the floor with ornaments everywhere.

And here's the cat photo:

I'll post this here for anyone who is interested... I posted it as a thank you in TFD on Monday and got sniped at. Grr...

My Brother in Law finally came through late last night and authorized the vet clinic to charge him to see Max.

The vet did some x-rays and while there was just a beginning trace pneumonia, he believed that the labor he has to exert to breathe may mean he has Pulmonary Fibrosis. I'm gonna have to google that one. I believe this is why his mom kicked him out of the litter before his eyes had even opened [he was found outside a gas station, the poor buddy!]

So he got fluids, some meds for his tummy [he hadn't been holding down anything - they guessed because of all the air in his tummy since he couldn't eat and breathe at the same time] ammox. for the pneumonia, and the knowledge that he's likely going to have to go on oxygen since breathing is so difficult for him.

But he looks so much better now. He even turned on the charm with the vet techs, giving out head bumps and sitting in the people chairs while waiting to be seen. Such a little ham :)

In other news, the vet clinic is staffed by overly money-hungry bastards. The kept my 2 year old daughter and 3 year step daughter and I past midnight until they could reach my BIL because he'd only authorized $200 and the bill came to $231. They couldn't wait until morning for the other $31.

Thanks to all who were F5 happy last night, and sent along well wishes and prayers. I know they helped.

tl;dr - Max isn't "well" but he's a lot better and now we at least have an idea of what's wrong with him.

Here's a pic of Max looking wise beyond his young years:
