Stupid farking dispicable monstrocity of an asshole creates this. Giant flaming idiots who hate America think it's cool. What a world.

Writer of bill needs to taps to the cranium.

2003-03-27 01:17:26 PM
It's pointless to protest Bush's war at this point, and it's pointless to get riled up over some weak-minded gesture by Bible enthusiasts in Congress. They operate under the belief that they have carte blanche to do whatever they want, and sadly, the majority of the American public has allowed this to happen. If you don't agree with them, they simply ignore you, or characterize you as a focus group as Bush did. No one wants to hear about peace or separation of church and state or Bush's destruction of our economy when paranoia and warmongering are at a fever pitch. Worse, people with other agendas make the anti-war movement look even more fringe.

Yet as history shows again and again, people gradually return to their senses. One can only hope that the backlash is so severe that greedy right-wing zealots never again gain a total monopoly over power and dialogue. Maybe then our politicians might accomplish something meaningful. Of course, I'm a dreamer.

These people are a cancer on the country, if not the world. They honestly believe that God favors Christian white people. Why did he bother to create the rest of humanity---the majority of the world's people? God save us all.

SmallTownGirl:

They're coming from the position of: "We know you don't like this, and we're trying to fark you with our religion."

They know exactly how non-religious people feel. They're just farking assholes.

2003-03-27 01:19:41 PM
I, being unbiased and agnostic/semi atheist, am much less bothered by this than you retards. Anyone who dosn't wanna live in a 'christian' country shouldn't be here..

recall "one nation, under GOD, indivisible..blah blah"

the internet community = largely free-minded and un-religious
other people = not

i didn't read all the article but it seems if they just said god then it really didnt' step on too many toes.. lots of religions can claim 'a' god.

how were the crusades different from ethnic cleansing?

is everyone on here under the age of 16?

btw: flames are useless =) as i never check followups to my posts

that's "two" taps to the cranium.

Let's get Ganesh involved, he'll sort it out.

2003-03-27 01:22:54 PM
Miercat,
the under god part was added by assholes MUCH after the original pledge was written, and is clearly an unconstitutional addition that was forced through by christians who decided their religion was larger than their duty they chose to follow in getting elected and SWEARING TO THEIR RELIGION to uphold the values of the country...

so they are farktards no matter how you look at it.

Blindhampster or Blindsheep? -

Do you realize that your "fears" all stem from a single incident that happened two years ago? On September 10, 2001 you could give a rats ass what Saddam did his people. As a matter of fact you still don't give a rats ass about the Iraqi people. Even if you disagree, at least acknowledge this point: President Bush has advanced his ajenda because of 9/11.

Right now you are being herded toward a miserable fate. How is it that the same clowns who wanted Clinton investigated for his alleged mariujuana use, readily accept the noble intentions of a known coke-head?

This nation was founded on a belief in God.
I'm not a religious fanatic, and I believe in separation of Church and State. The Founding Fathers were god-fearing men, and this nation would be a better place if all the citizens were also.
I don't think a day of prayer and fasting ought to be called for by the government; that is the role of religious leaders. But it's not a bad idea.
Religion isn't the cause of war, hatred and selfishness (often lamely justified by religion) causes war.

2003-03-27 01:24:44 PM
OK... as a Budhist my only question here is, do I get the day off work while the rest of you stop eating and pray the whole day? If so... I am all for it.

Can we also have Tlaloc?

2003-03-27 01:25:05 PM
So, basically, it's our right wing religious fundamentalists vs. their right wing religious fundamentalists.

DROxINxTHExWIND

Hey now, nothing wrong with coke heads.
:)

And Joey JoJo Junior Shabadoo:
This nation was also founded by people who largely believed in slavery. Every day we learn something new and we move forward as a people.
Time for us to move beyond this whole religion thing and believe in the good of people, not in everything we do being influenced by some "higher power".

2003-03-27 01:26:10 PM
Anyone who is either offended or threatened by these words, or who fails to appreciate the tradition that underlies them, is really quite pitiable.

Whereas, on June 1, 1774, the Virginia House of Burgesses called for a day of fasting and prayer as an expression of solidarity with the people of Boston who were under siege by the enemy;

Whereas, on March 16, 1776, the Continental Congress, recognizing that the `Liberties of America are imminently endangered' and the need `to acknowledge the overruling Providence of God', called for a day of `Humiliation, Fasting and Prayer';

Whereas, on June 28, 1787, during the debate of the Constitutional Convention, Benjamin Franklin, convinced of God's intimate involvement in human affairs, implored the Congress to seek the assistance of Heaven in all its dealings;

Whereas, on March 30, 1863, in the midst of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln, at the bequest of the Senate, and himself recognizing the need of the Nation to humble itself before God in repentance for its national sins, proclaimed a day of fasting, prayer and humiliation;

Whereas all of the various faiths of the people of the United States have recognized, in our religious traditions, the need for fasting and humble supplication before Providence;

Whereas humility, fasting, and prayer in times of danger have long been rooted in our essential national convictions and have been a means of producing unity and solidarity among all the diverse people of this Nation as well as procuring the enduring grace and benevolence of God;

Whereas, through prayer, fasting, and self-reflection, we may better recognize our own faults and shortcomings and submit to the wisdom and love of God in order that we may have guidance and strength in those daily actions and decisions we must take; and

Whereas dangers and threats to our Nation persist and, in this time of peril, it is appropriate that the people of the United States, leaders and citizens alike, seek guidance, strength, and resolve through prayer and fasting: ...

LarryLeadFoot asks: They honestly believe that God favors Christian white people. Why did he bother to create the rest of humanity---the majority of the world's people?

Isn't it obvious? To provide a source of cheap labor. Also, for target practice.

Clearly, Martin Sheen has decided it's cooler to be the Insane Future President from "The Dead Zone" instead of Mr. Boring from "The West Wing". Nukes are cool.

It's a bit late, but I feel the need to add this anyway:

"How can you have a religious war?" - Corporate Avenger.
Think about that, in the way it applies to religions based on "love." Like Christianity, in theory.

2003-03-27 01:36:37 PM
why do the call it a fast when it goes sooo damn slow??

"U.S. Government calls for citizens to pray and fast so God will help win the war"

If THIS is "our tax dollars at work", then I'm gonna go pig out on some FRENCH fries, FRENCH toast, and salad after sald covered in FRENCH dressing.

Then, I'm gonna stick my finger down my throat and gargle out "The Internationale" as I puke all over a photo of GW Bush.

The Founding Fathers were god-fearing men, and this nation would be a better place if all the citizens were also.

This is so true, and there are so many nations that can be used as examples to prove it, like... um like, er, care to help me out here?

Seriosly now, would you explain what you mean by "better place"?

As I awoke this morning and made my way through the daily web related war articles, I noticed a strange feeling pervading various regions of my body. The sensation was one of warmness (and well security) which in whole encompassed my right leg from my kneecap down, my upper thorax up to but not including my neck, and most importantly my left testicle. Though awkward at first, this newfound awareness was not at all unpleasant. Quite the opposite.

What could possibly be the cause of this new found phenomenon?

After some reflection I realized that the effect was in direct proportion to the amount of operation "enduring freedom" war footage that I was exposed to. Slowly I began to realize that the effect I was feeling was, in actuality, forces of increased freedom and security pervading my body (albeit only one piece at a time). It seems that every time I read or witnessed another news report which proved how America was liberating the world from the horrible threat of weapons of mass destruction my mind was mirroring the effect in my body. In short George bush had freed my left testicle from the ravages of fear and oppression.

I am a living example of how liberating a military force can be. Though I am not usually a religious person, I find myself praying and thanking the good lord for my newfound freedom (in my left testicle) and hoping against hope that one day soon the right one may be delivered from fear as well.

God bless you George Bush. You are a great American hero. (Just like GI Joe) My testicles (and the liberated people of Iraq) thank you. Stay the course and know that your undying devotion to liberty and freedom has not been in vain.

"Who is Jim Croce? Puhleeeeze crawl out from under that rock you've been hanging out under!"

Ironic that you say that, since Jim's been dead for several decades.

If you DO Jim Croce crawling out from under that rock, you'd better run for your life if you wanna keep your brrrRRRRRRRRRAAAAAIIIINNNNSSSS!

Here's the quote on my Bush calendar for the day: "I'm sure you can imagine it's an unimaginable honor to live here."

2003-03-27 01:50:20 PM
Why not just make it law? Then we'll be just like Iraq and Afghanistan. Then we can quit the war because they've won.

We have have religous kooks.
We have weapons of mass destruction.
We have people telling us to be pro war or were un-American.
We have idiots running the country.

Man, we're just like those places.

2003-03-27 01:50:58 PM
I have not read the thread, but I will die for my right to NOT fast and pray. DIE. I eat all I want and will not submit to monotheism! I would sooner worship Hades. I loathe my country and its neo-christian/nazi non-values.
Damn you christians, stay out of my laws!

Oh, please grow up! Just like us in Iraq, these words have no place in any legislation! NONE!

This is insane BS! When the US becomes a theocracy get back to me.

Look at it this way: Sun Tzu said to know your enemy. Well we know em pretty danm well, because we inch a little closer to being more like them every day.

C'mon government, do some real work. When you're not fasting and praying and genuflecting.

This nation was founded on a belief in God.

In order to make this statement approach the truth, the 'G' should be replaced with a 'g'.

I found one that I think would be of interest.
