WAR IS HORRIBLE, BUT EVIL IS WORSE!

This is farking disgusting.

I am agnostic, but everyday I pray to whatever that the Dubya admin gets the boot.

Frazzetta_Chick - self-involved cynical nihilists?

There's nothing more self-involved than believing that an all powerful creator is listening to YOU

The awesome power and miracle of God is everywhere and all-encompassing but you can't see it, you just have to believe? Who wouldn't be cynical?

Nihilism? Everybody and everything dies, just as they live. That's just a fact, not a philosophy

There is 99.5% chance of this passing. There is also a 99.5% chance of "Kangaroo Jack" having a larger impact on your life than this resolution.

2003-03-27 11:07:15 AM
1: I pray every day that the troops are just in their duties and they are merciful.

2: This House resolution isn't a Jihad; Jihad is what the Islamic Fundies waged on us years ago. Bush has gone out of his way to not make this a Jihad.

Good grief. Not all Christians are idiots, just as not all Islamic believers are suicide bombers. You are "blowing" this way out of proportion.

eatham-You got me, I can't read, I'm so ashamed! Don't look at me.

If they would add

(4) America gets the assigned weekday off of work whether they use the day for prayer or not

I would probably support it, even though I would probably have to work anyway...

420_Yo:

"This is not a war of Christians vs. Muslims."

Thats not what Pat Roberson is saying to our grandparents.

God didn't intervene to save the millions of Jews killed in the Holocaust.

What makes you think he's gonna help us with our stupid little war?

2003-03-27 11:09:22 AM
Actually, I had the TV on the other day and Pat Robertson was saying that he had "grave reservations about this war".

Here's my prayer...
"you're always letting us humans down
the wars you bring
the babes you drown
those lost at sea and never found
and it's all the same the whole world round
the hurt I see helps to compound
That Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
is just somebody's unholy hoax
And if you're up there you'd perceive
That my heart's here upon my sleeve
If there's one thing I don't believe in...
It's you, dear God."
Now I'm off to lunch.

2003-03-27 11:09:33 AM
UUARUUZARE I didn't edit anything. However, I chose to concentrate on the purpose of the resolution, not to whom it was aimed.

Wh0mprat Pray to Buddha then. Or meditate or something (don't mean to be inflammatory here, just don't know what it is that buddhists do.)

I'm done with this. Hyper-sensitive people have made political correctness run rampant in this country. For chrissakes (oops, sorry, didn't mean to imply the existance of a higher being), most of us don't have a problem ignoring the ever-farking speed limits and that's an actual LAW.

And Saint Attila raised the hand grenade up on high, saying, 'O Lord, bless this Thy hand grenade that, with it, Thou mayest blow Thine enemies to tiny bits in Thy mercy.'

And the Lord did grin, and the people did feast upon the lambs and sloths and carp and anchovies and orangutans and breakfast cereals and fruit bats and large chu--

And the Lord spake, saying, 'First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then, shalt thou count to three. No more. No less. Three shalt be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, nor either count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.'

Sad and pathetic. Thanks for wasting my tax dollars on this shiat.

Fasting ? Naaah that doesn't work; look at the muslims: they do it for a month every year (although not at night) but they're always at the wrong end of the stick.

Am I getting this right? Your senate is trying to legislate a day of prayer and fasting? Your country is so massively farked up. I am more glad every day that I'm not an American.

2003-03-27 11:12:22 AM
If beer doesn't count as food I'm in. Then later in the day after all beer and no food I am sure I will be praying to the porcelain god.

See everyone is happy now.

"03-27-03 10:59:53 AM Frazetta_chick
I'm praying to God every hour of every day. I'm praying to free the Iraqi people from this vicious thugocracy, I'm praying for our troops, I'm praying for mercy.
I'm proud to admit it. Prayer works."

I've been waiting a loooooonnnnnnnnggggggg time for some prayers to be answered - seems the number is disconnected. The wonderful "God" you pray to just keeps piling it on.

This is a "backdoor" way to promote Christianity, and it sucks!!

avixxen2: yeah - they probably figure pray/fasting will distract us. NOT!!

2003-03-27 11:12:42 AM
Great, so the Arab countries of the world get objective proof that we're run by fundies.

So moch for that separation of church and state business...

2003-03-27 11:12:48 AM
I don't think the military needs much help winning this war. That'll happen relatively quickly (as soon as the most lethal division of our Army, the 4th ID, is in country).

What we do need to pray for is the safe return of our troops and for the safety of Iraqi civilians. We need to remember that, for the most part, they're folks with families that they love. They have jobs just like you and I and they're trying to do their best for their loved ones, just like many of us. I don't think we need any direction from our government toward this end.

2003-03-27 11:13:06 AM
Quit yer griping! Are any of you suggesting that it wouldn't be a good idea for Americans to spend a day or two fasting?

God Angrily Clarifies 'Don't Kill' Rule

"I tried to put it in the simplest possible terms for you people, so you'd get it straight, because I thought it was pretty important," said God, called Yahweh and Allah respectively in the Judaic and Muslim traditions. "I guess I figured I'd left no real room for confusion after putting it in a four-word sentence with one-syllable words, on the tablets I gave to Moses. How much more clear can I get?"

"But somehow, it all gets twisted around and, next thing you know, somebody's spouting off some nonsense about, 'God says I have to kill this guy, God wants me to kill that guy, it's God's will,'" God continued. "It's not God's will, all right? News flash: 'God's will' equals 'Don't murder people.'"

Worse yet, many of the worst violators claim that their actions are justified by passages in the Bible, Torah, and Qur'an.

That's 'cuz they were jews, silly. God only intervenes to help christians. Especially against godless, dirty, brown heathens.

2003-03-27 11:13:54 AM
Prozacboi Not meaning a flame at all, I really am having a hard time figuring out what you are arguing with. Please point me to my comment that mentions war, or the part of the resolution that mentions anything about praying to God to win the war.

2003-03-27 11:14:10 AM
First off: No, I am not a fundamentalist. Maybe some will rant about the separation of church and state, but I must say that I do pray to God, especially in these turbulent times. So all the whiners out there: get over yourselves and stop your biatching. There's no state religion here in the US, and there won't be one. The legislation never mentioned a specific religion anyhow. So quit belittling folks because they believe in prayer, i.e. get a farkin life.

2003-03-27 11:15:02 AM
Relax, anti-christians! No one is going to force everyone to pray and fast: this is a symbolic gesture in keeping with long held traditions (read the damn thing).

Despite what George Carlin and Michael Moore would have you think, the majority of religeous people in the US are NOT trying to shove their beliefs down your throat.

There are LOTs of christian types in the US(I'm not one, but hey): this resolution will give churches and organizations of all denominations a specific day to coordinate their war-related activities. Just think of it as an "organized protest" or something: maybe that will make it more palettable to you paranoid anti-religionists.

TigerzDad...

Pure greatness! I haven't thought about the "Holy Hand Grenade" in a loooooong time.

LOL!

Dear Osama Bin Laden:

How are things going? I hope the oil buissness is going as well for you as it is for me. I know I said some nasty things about you last year, but you know, they made me do it. Anywho, things are really nice in washington right now - Colin just cleaned out the atick and found my old subysuby toys when I was just a tot on Uncle Ronney's knee. Boy, those sure were good times, huh Osama. Anyway, I told the old boys down on the hill to get that prayin and fastin thing you mooslims are so keen on. Boy, that totalitarian dictor and rule by fear trick you gave me sure did work out great, i figured, heck WHY NOT? If it works for the boys in brown, it'll work for the red white and blue. Anyway, I've got to go order more of those godless iraqi nationals to their death so we can set up a fundamentalist islamic regiem like wanted the last time you met with Mr. Rumsfeild. Hope everything is going well out in Austin... say hi to my horse for me.

Love,
George W. Bush
Presedent of the US of A.

you asked for it:

WHEREAS, the United States needs the labor of its people to give it the materiel and supplies to keep it free,
and WHEREAS, the United States now finds itself in a state of War with the government of Iraq,
and WHEREAS many persons in the United States find themselves without profitable employment,
and WHEREAS our allies, the people of Germany have experience with this situation
NO LET IT BE RESOLVED that April 1, 2003 shall be known as "ARBEIT MACHT FREI" day in the United States.

Here assented and agreed to by the undersigned:

A. Asshat, Representative
D. Moron, Senator
A. Hitler, Concerned Argentinian

2003-03-27 11:17:09 AM
Eatham

when i cut and past DIRECTLY from the resolution, it comes out like this:

(1) designating a day for humility, prayer, and fasting for all people of the United States; and

(2) calling on all people of the United States--

(A) to observe the day as a time of prayer and fasting;

(B) to seek guidance from God to achieve a greater understanding of our own failings and to learn how we can do better in our everyday activities; and

(C) to gain resolve in meeting the challenges that confront our Nation.

looks a little difference from yours, eh?

I sense a circular argument with you coming up, so quit changing your 'point'

the point is, and always has been, the government is promoting a day of religion for ALL PEOPLE. there are atheists, you know.

2003-03-27 11:17:21 AM
Chunderman
Yeah, but the people don't need the government to tell them when to pray.

It's a sanctimonious pointless gesture.

Emperor-Jay: Dude.... Puff, puff, pass.

If you pray to a sky god that another human has told you about, you have already lost your mind to that human. They own you and your fragile mind.

Chunderman & DrLearned....

Well said.

2003-03-27 11:19:30 AM
Dr Learned: So all that prayer in schools talk while Bush was in Texas wasn't an attempt to cram religion down our throats?

You must be a fundie too.

2003-03-27 11:19:37 AM
DrLearned:

I would be very fine with the concept of it as an organized protest, if the government also organized anti-war protests similarly.

Anyone else miss Harmonia? How about a National Bevets/Harmonia Day?

/just asking

2003-03-27 11:20:45 AM
UUARUUZARE It is a little different. Where you copied and pasted the ENTIRE resolution, I copied and pasted FROM the resolution. I'm not making a circular argument - my point is, and has always been:

1. That the government is not promoting one religion over another.
2. It's a resolution, not a law. This is no more or less important than National Yak Shaving Day or something.
3. A little humility, prayer, and fasting wouldn't hurt anyone.
4. Achieving a greater understanding of our failings wouldn't hurt either.
5. This is a new one - if atheism is a religion, then bald is a hair color. However, last I looked, atheism didn't preclude anyone from being humble or from fasting.

2003-03-27 11:21:02 AM
here's a copy of an e-mail I just sent to every single representative from Texas (with the exception of John Carter, who's a co-sponsor):

To whom it may concern,

You have my whole hearted support and permission to seek out the co-sponsors of this bill:

and kick them in the balls.

Thank you for your kicking ability,
