Why would we need to pray and fast to get God to bless us when what we are doing is already God's will???

Manifest destiny forever, man.

Somebody get me a hamburger.

2003-03-27 10:46:11 AM
who's going to be first against the wall?

2003-03-27 10:46:13 AM
>> otherwise the crusade's will begin again

I think it's already too late.

Farking religious zealots! This is in poor taste; praying to God to help up kill brown people. We should leave God out of it.

2003-03-27 10:46:17 AM
It's a really really good idea to turn this into a holy war. I'm sure that will get everyone on our side. Pfft.

Wasn't there some late 70's movie that predicted a middle eastern war lead by the anti-christ in a blue turban from Babylon destroying the "new city" and leading to a holy war when the bear and eagle got together leading to the end of the world? I forget if it was Biblical or Nostradamus-ian in nature.

Anyone remember that? (I feel like I'm "asking the audience" on Millionaire).

Luckily Russia thinks we're nuts so the bear ain't with the eagle yet.

This is a joke redirect page, right? Like those fake CNN pages that were so popular a while back. Please someone tell me that's what this is, even if it isn't. I'm an American, so I can delude myself with the best of them, but I just need someone to help get the ball rolling.

2003-03-27 10:46:36 AM
How about this - instead of passing resolutions for 'fasting and praying' we instead pass resolutions to send more ammo to our armed forces? I think they would appreciate the ammo much more.

2003-03-27 10:46:57 AM
ah yes, let's try and make this into more of a Christian vs. Muslim affair.

2003-03-27 10:47:05 AM
Whereas humility, fasting, and prayer in times of danger have long been rooted in our essential national convictions . . .

Then why are so many people overweight?

2003-03-27 10:47:06 AM
let's counter the religious zealotry of terrorists and madmen by showing them just how powerful religious zealotry can be when backed up by 2,000-lb. bombs. and, well, fasting and such.

there are idiots among us.

2003-03-27 10:47:06 AM
Morons Indeed, It this is so helpful they should have did the same for saddams demise.

2003-03-27 10:47:08 AM
I just have one thing to say about this, uh, oh but you'll have to excuse me, the four horsement are here for tea and crumpets (with a side of freedome fries).

2003-03-27 10:47:12 AM
"to seek guidance from God"...since the guidance systems of our bombs still kinda like crowded markets...

EatHam: None of these things is bad IMO. Don't believe in God? Don't do it. However, a large part of the country does, so leave them alone. If you don't want to pray, don't.

If you believe in God, you're going to be praying anyway. I don't think religious people need their government to tell them when or how to do it.

2003-03-27 10:47:21 AM
EatHam You are correct. However, I am not convinced that a Congressional enactment is the only way to accomplish it, nor an appropriate way to accomplish it.

2003-03-27 10:47:31 AM
Shreen: Holy shiat. Next they're going to be calling on the Super Friends.

Wonder Twin powers activate! Form of a giant douchebag!

2003-03-27 10:47:47 AM
I'm already fasting because I can't afford to eat because none of these tax cuts are helping me! Okay, that's not totally true. I could probably stand to lose the weight, though.

In conclusion, are these people completely bonkers?

2003-03-27 10:47:55 AM
It's not fark, its blasphemy! (tm)

I support out government until the day they *US* decides to 'settle' the juresalum problem. It will be them (the US and united assemblies) that will be the end of us all!

2003-03-27 10:48:07 AM
Maybe I should just do a rain dance.

/stupid Utah Senator

2003-03-27 10:48:25 AM
I read the headline as "US Government calls for citizens to pray and pray fast so God will help win the war"

:)

2003-03-27 10:48:50 AM
Sweet. Thundering. Jesus.

A cannot believe I just read that.

2003-03-27 10:48:59 AM
I guess all of the God Bless America signs we are seeing on video stores and restaruants alike have had no effect.

2003-03-27 10:49:05 AM
Yeah, I read that too KaKa :D

2003-03-27 10:49:07 AM
I find it amusing that the most recent precedent they cite for passage of the present bill is from 1863.

Let them pass this stupid little law, or any number like it. I don't have to pretend to their superstitions.

2003-03-27 10:49:13 AM
Pirapoi Because they only fast for a half-hour at a time between trips to McDonalds.

2003-03-27 10:49:14 AM
I will begin fasting just as soon as I finish off this plate of Freedom Fries...

2003-03-27 10:49:24 AM
I submit this as proof that you don't have to have any working knowledge of the Constitution, or the religious proclivities of the citizens of this country, in order to be elected to national office, or submit bills to become law in the Houses of Congress.

Oh,God Dammit. I just rechecked the list of co-sponsors, and MINE'S ON THERE!!!!

fark Hell shiat Damn biatch.

2003-03-27 10:49:27 AM
I'm going to begin fasting, NOW!
*chews bagel*
I mean, NOW!

2003-03-27 10:49:32 AM
eatham- Come on do you really think god is going to help us kill people?

2003-03-27 10:49:47 AM
There can be only one!

Oh, wait, that's quickening,

/I got nutin

2003-03-27 10:49:57 AM
Interesting historical precedent they used, though....

03-27-03 10:44:27 AM Shreen
Holy shiat. Next they're going to be calling on the Super Friends.

I'm hoping for Black Vulca, the Apache guy, and the Sumo Wrestler....

oh, yeah...and Gleek the Space Monkey

2003-03-27 10:50:05 AM
I may be wrong, but wouldn't a day of fasting destroy the fast food industry?

Maybe it's just me...

2003-03-27 10:50:20 AM
Good one, Guy Incognito.

And Lionhound and Jacopo:

While I agree that's it's just a minority, when 6 percent of the House does anything this silly, it's scary.

Although I can't say I'm surprised that Ms. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is a part of this. That is one farked up, crazy biatch.

2003-03-27 10:50:58 AM
What a great way to waste time and money! It's almost as good as killing an entire session of congress to act indignant about someone else getting a blowjob... From a /girl/...

2003-03-27 10:50:59 AM
Again, this is not a bill to approved into law, it is a resolution. Basically, it is an official statement from Congress. They pass these things almost daily and they're largely meaningless. These are the means by which a Congressman can declare "National Artificial Bovine Insemination Day."

2003-03-27 10:51:04 AM
Seperation of Church and State does not mean to absolutely, intolerably strike all reference of a religion from State function. It means that no State should sponsor a religion or become a central element of religion.

If these lawmakers are Christians, let them be. They don't try to stop you from worshipping at the "deitious haus of teh boobies."

2003-03-27 10:51:09 AM
Doesn't fasting only slow your metabolism, therefore when you start eating again you gain weight?

2003-03-27 10:51:23 AM
Prozacboi: What part of my comment did you read as "God is going to help us kill people"?

/rereads

No, I really didn't say anything remotely close to that.

2003-03-27 10:51:30 AM
I cannot fathom the combination of ideas that produced this bill.

The intentions are good, I guess, but holy jeez whoever came up with this bill is an out and out moron. And what sucks is that NO ONE can call them out publicily because they'll just be like "What, do you not support our troops? Are you a terrorist too?" And the average american will be all like "Yee haw! GO USA!"

2003-03-27 10:51:40 AM
Doesn't Dan Burton have anything more important to do with his time? Maybe he has some fruit in his backyard to defend his family from or something, or maybe he should be out making more babies with women other than his wife.

2003-03-27 10:52:00 AM
I'm Christian, support the war, and have a brother going over there. This is still stupid.

But geez, relax. It's just a bill. This discussion right here is the most it will ever be discussed. No reps from my state on the list, so I'm done.

2003-03-27 10:52:01 AM
Flame war in 3..2..1..

Having said that, this is just absolutely ridiculous. Although looking at the list of Congressmen, I take pride that no one from MY fine home state was stupid enough to support this. =P

2003-03-27 10:52:19 AM
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..."

it states quite clearly that all offers shall become null and void: "I, the undersigned, shall forfeit all rights, privileges, and licenses herein and herein contained, et cetera, et cetera...fax mentis incendium gloria culpum, et cetera, et cetera...memo bis punitor delicatum!" It's all there, black and white, clear as crystal! You stole Fizzy Lifting Drinks. You bumped into the ceiling which now has to be washed and sterilized, so you get nothing!

2003-03-27 10:52:53 AM
Nightsweat: You're not imagining it, it was some bizarre Nostradamus movie with Orson Welles I think as narrarator. Since I was little it always scared the heck outta me.

and you guys thought the sweet tea legislation was frivolous.

2003-03-27 10:53:09 AM
Fasting?

So that means no Freedom Fries? That's Un-American. They must love Saddam Hussein!

/sarcasm

In all seriousness, if even one of those bald-eagle farkers acts on his empty gestures and actually fasts all day, I will personally stand up and sing their choice of Charlie Daniels songs.

2003-03-27 10:53:29 AM
Save us Jebus from our own stupidity! That's what I'll be praying for. This is quite hypocritical, considering how we are supposedly trying to topple all religious nutcases who think God is on their side. Oh, or is it only OK when it's Christianity they are forcing down our throats? Sigh, I confused.

2003-03-27 10:53:42 AM
I don't know why people are up in arms over this, yet still continue to support tripe like Sweetest Day. That is the one that needs to go. We already have Valentine's day, and one day of that is plenty for me, thanks.

2003-03-27 10:54:07 AM
Is anyone going to email any of these sponsors of this bill?

2003-03-27 10:54:23 AM
The scary part about this, is that people really beleive this shiat!

2003-03-27 10:54:26 AM
What they don't show are the amendments that include another $900MM contract for Halliburton, wipe out the ANWR, disolve the UN, and proclaim Bush Pretzel Emperor for Life.
