Hmmph... I guess that I'm the odd man out because I have heard of A LOT of those people.

And Jason Sehorn isn't a New Yorker anymore, so I don't know if he really counts, even if he is a tool. But, in all fairness, their take on yayo is dead right.

When the Strokes wormed their way into the pop charts, US Weekly and Drew Barrymore's well-worn snatch, the search began for the nonexistent New York scene that spawned their moppet rock. Innumerable acts applied for next-big-thing status, offering a high-concept, rock-crit-friendly crossbreed (as in "we're a cross between late-60s new wave and 80s electro, but with a whole Morrissey thing going on") in a cutey-pie wrapping. Eschewing practice time in favor of constructing stupid wardrobes from retro boutiques, and choosing fashion over fist-in-the-face rocking, New York rockers have killed the slim chance that a genuine scene would be born anytime soon.


Hilarious. Also, I think most people have heard of Naomi Campbell and Yoko Ono.

If we're talking sucky overrated NYC acts, truly there is no greater stink than the Strokes with a steamy pile of Interpol on the side. I look at these albums, I expect to see the record store mantra, "If you liked [band ripped off], you'll love [younger, prettier band doing the ripping]."

Ok, you know what's really freaking me out? This is the FOURTH reference to Yoko Ono I've heard in two days. Yesterday, she was referenced in a Dar Williams song that I was listening to, then a Barenaked Ladies song, then Homer mentioned her on the Simpsons last night, and now she's in this damn list. WTF?! I mean, I've gone months without hearing her name mentioned, then BAM! Sorry, that was off-topic. But I swear it means something.

Anyway, yeah, so I hear Naiomi Campbell's a certified biatch.

I'd have a hard a hard time creating a list of 50 people who've never heard of most of these people, without including mental patients, very young children, and people who've been in a coma for the last 20 years.
Come to think of it even the coma people are going to recognize Woody Allen, Yoko Ono, Henry Kissinger, and George Steinbrenner.

I'm with you, Walt - I've heard of probably all except maybe 1/2 dozen or so names on the list. I live relatively close to NYC (CT) and check out NY news on the internet.


I'm surprised Leona Helmsley isn't higher up on the list. She is and continues to be a SUPERbiatch. Was pleased to see Ann Coulter in the top 10 - she actually should be number 1.
