"New York Press"? I'm guessing this is a paper that you get for free, largely underwritten by ads from phone-sex lines, booby bars and tatoo parlors. Am I wrong?

Yeah, pretty much. I stopped reading both it and the Village Voice some time ago because I got tired of their knee-jerk, reactionary politics...although I must point out that NY Press' editor is a notorious right-winger (that "Mugger" guy), and the VV is of course very left-wing.

when a horse-faced Tri-Delt who spends her days hurling genocidal threats at foreigners and liberals-whose best come-hither look promises jackboots, pepper gas and the switch-

BWAHAHAHAHA! It's funny 'cause she's a farking coont.

"...The second wife of the only good Beatle.."

I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but I'm guessing that George Harrison has more talent than this hack. I'm all for cutting cynicism and stuff, but making statements like this is just asinine.

I'd spend good money to get Ted Rall and Ann Coulter to do a porno together. No matter what, it'd be entertaining.

At least they have redeeming qualities. They're both amusing reads if you don't take them seriously. That, and Ann in a see-through maid's outfit, begging to service me... *ahem*

Oh, come on, you know seeing that spoiled brat humiliated would give anyone left of Ashcroft a boner.
2003-03-26 03:33:36 PM
This list is dumb. The worst entry is Number 22, Bernard Kerik. The man is really good person. The idiot that wrote this article really needs to check their facts. Bernard Kerik was not the NY Police Commisioner during the Amadou Diallo shooting incident, Howard Safir was. Very serious error there.
2003-03-26 03:44:44 PM
Cool, my boss in on the list! I am SO lucky. (now I know why I haven't gotten a raise in 2 years)
2003-03-26 03:53:54 PM
Hey, Nutdip,
You wouldn't make it outta da farkin' schoolyard in a sandstorm, kapeesh?
Asshat. Brooklyn could kick your WHOLE STATE's ASS!
And we wouldn't even need Bed-Stuy."

Hear, hear...

Nothing worse than a pissed off New Yorker!!!!! Especially someone from Brooklyn!!!!!
2003-03-26 04:04:27 PM
"49 people you never heard of"?

If you haven't heard of at least 2/3 of this list, and you're an American over the age of 20, you're an idiot.
2003-03-26 04:04:38 PM
Whoa whoa whoa whoa WHOA!

Knock that asshat Seahorn all you want, but lay off that hot piece of ass Angie Harmon
2003-03-26 04:04:48 PM

Probably because no one in NYC knows who Tom Chisano is. People in NYC listen to Hot97, WBLS, WABC and the 20 or so Spanish stations. Only people in the suburbs listen to K-Rock and Howard Stern.
2003-03-26 04:06:45 PM
Man these guys hate everyone! At least the go across the political spectrum.

Who actually thinks Ann Coulter is hot?
2003-03-26 04:21:44 PM
Ann Coulter is my friend and she's awesome. One's personality, whether they're liberal or conservaive, can't be judged solely from the persona presented on political shows.

And yes, I do think she's hot.
2003-03-26 04:22:24 PM
I'd hit Ann Coulter.

Again, and again, and again.

how COULD nas be garbage? illmatic is the best rap album of all time! at least he and jay (who is crap) weren't higher up on the list.
2003-03-26 04:35:52 PM
Who's never heard of these people? True, there are maybe 5 or 6 I've never heard of, but I'm not a New Yorker either. It stands to reason that not every loathsome person in NYC is a movie star.

The person who submitted this link is a farking idiot.

Maybe it's just me but I hit "ctrl A" and this popped up in the background.

New York's #1 Alternative Newspaper
It was up to spiderman and shakira to stop that rotten scoundrel osama bin laden and his taliban.. First he brought down the world trade center, then he created napster‹what evil would be next? Studying the works of nostradamus, they figured the best place to catch him would either be at the world cup or the winter olympics, where he planned to unleash an envelope full of anthrax on the unsuspecting crowd. CNN caught morrowind of the plot, and predicted there would be neverwinter nights for years to come. It would be a dungeon siege when these forces came together. It would be like a battlefield 1942.

"Each man involved is an american idol," eminem told avril levigne in front of the pink gareth gates of their local Ikea. "All your base are belong to us," bin laden said in a taped message. "The battlefield will run red with los ketchup. It will be star wars. A trillian bodies will litter the sand!" Natalie Portman of the FBI had heard enough. She contacted the Pentagon and ordered operation flashpoint, which involved crashing the mir space station into Afghanistan, which soon thereafter would resemble the Planet of the Apes. Segway to Angelina Jolie, who shouted to her comrade and fellow tomb raider loana, "Hurry! We must return to castle wolfenstein! Don¹t they realize that all this is designed to lead to big brother 2?"

They fled on foot, together into the night

"the despicable Bowling for Columbine".. Am I the only one that thought that was really uncalled for? I think Moore's fairly retarded and I do wish he would shut up, but that movie was not "despicable". It was pretty realistic, if narrow-viewed. Guess some people have a hard time dealing with reality, though, eh?

/recalls Norton's rant in 25th Hour, concurs
2003-03-26 04:54:09 PM
Good to see some New Yorkers out there. Born in Crown Heights. Now living in Greenpoint.
2003-03-26 04:55:53 PM
EatHam: That's a classic.
2003-03-26 04:58:09 PM

I thought you were just kiddin, but it happened to me too. I forget the exact name for what that was, but I think it's referred to as "Google-baiting"; it's where you load up your web page with references to popular search-engine terms so it appears higher in rankings.

My Ctrl-A also turned up:

1. Whoever put this post through, obviously isn't from NY.
2. They let someone who has never heard of George Steinbrenner or Yoko Ono add posts to fark.com? Blasphemy.
C. Cocaine is not from New York.
6. Cocaine is not a person.
7. Cocaine is *sniiiffff* ahh. good, sometimes.
3. What was I saying?
This comment is lame, and should be baleeted.

What about short fingered vulgarian Donald Trump?

Man, I miss Spy magazine.

Yeah that is what I figured about the bottom part but the story was just so weird. I did a search for it on the site and it gave me this..

A mostly blank page...
2003-03-26 05:28:32 PM
Ahahaha, farking Ann Coulter is a stupid biatch who deserves to be farked to death with a giant rod. This list is pretty good though, I was surprised.
Only thing is, if you've never heard of most of the people on this list, you need to turn off your computer and go outside. Even a lazy geek like me knows who they are.
2003-03-26 05:35:43 PM
I'm serious. Ann Coulter is hot. Who knows if she's married or not... and if she'd be interested in a 29 year old DBA from Milwaukee?
2003-03-26 05:42:20 PM
Please tell me why Susan Sontag isn't on that list. She should be #1.
2003-03-26 05:42:38 PM
I live in Nebraska and Ive heard of most of these people. It seems somewhat mean spirited though, why put Jonathon Safron Foer at # 6? So what he uses three names, his book was different and a good read. Im calling jealousy on this one.
2003-03-26 05:43:04 PM
and by the way, Kremit, Ann Coulter HAS a giant rod up her ass. So another one wouldn't be noticed.
2003-03-26 05:53:41 PM
matt tabai used to work for the exile - an english language expat paper in russia.

he's like that.

now he works at the beast .

2003-03-26 05:55:08 PM

the beast
2003-03-26 05:55:20 PM
Did anyone else get the idea that the author(s) are racist? I can handle the Elitist attitude and the Cooler-Than_thou rhetoric, but why the N-blast and all the "Darkies" references? Maybe I'm just a stupid Southerner (Cracker @$$ Cracker) who doesn't get the NY lingo, but I would be ashamed to put my name by that article.

For just plain Burnination, tho, I'd have to say they got off some good blasts (especially the Drew Barrymore thing)

2003-03-26 05:58:50 PM
I live in Ireland and I've even heard of most of these people...
2003-03-26 06:44:18 PM
How could Howard Stern not be on this list?

Funny stuff though.
2003-03-26 06:45:20 PM
Yawn. The editorial opinions of some free rag.
Just reminds me of a Calvin and Hobbes cartoon, Hobbes saying to Calvin "Potty Mouth, Potty Mouth, Calvin is a Potty Mouth".
2003-03-26 08:46:52 PM
I dont know who some of these people are, but I know most and generally agree. Either way, the article was damn funny, except when they bashed Jeff Koons :'( those are just the kind of things I like about him!
2003-03-26 09:18:30 PM
yeah, stupid indeed. And on top of that, they forgot to include, what's his name again, eh.. yeah. I forgot.
2003-03-27 01:07:50 AM
The article was half-right Dow ended up buying Union Carbide.
2003-03-27 01:41:56 AM
umm.. someone's never heard of patti smith (jax)

here most notorious single was titled "rock and roll attractive and successful African-American"..
2003-03-27 03:08:23 AM
"And though there's nothing more satisfying than beating the shiat out of an arrogant cokehead who thought himself invincible, we'd just as soon see New York City realize its destiny as a speed town."
2003-03-27 03:30:11 AM
What? Did Spike Lee leave town or sumthin?
2003-03-27 04:45:34 AM
There are New Yorkers who are not loathsome?
2003-03-27 10:48:55 AM
Uh, is it strange that I don't listen to New York but I've heard of all of these people?
